[name_m]Just[/name_m] collecting and thinking, no babies yet!
I’m just not really in love with any boys names, from my signature I’ve been over and over different links and used name hunter etc and I just don’t like anything enough to actually consider them on my child.
The exceptions to this are [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. Ideally I’d like more ideas than that! As I’m not expecting right now it doesn’t really matter that much to only have three options… but it’s bumming me out a little that apparently all boys names I like are one or more of the following:
not a style I could use e.g. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] or [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], as S/O is quite conservative with names.
names I like that have been used in the family e.g. [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m], and we do not repeat names/I don’t want to.
or are in the same ‘style’ but I don’t find them appealing e.g. [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
I’ve been round and round Nameberry looking for something that fits the general style but aren’t the ‘obvious’ ones.
In general I’m just no loving my boys names any more and would love some suggestions!
It’s not actually a bad thing to have a short list, it can save a lot of aggravation when the time comes provided you really love the names on your list.
Hugo is an amazing choice!
It might help to spend some time looking at the name as a whole (first, middle, surname, vs. Just first name) in order to generate some new ideas. Something else you can also try, make a list of the names you know will be too adventurous and then try and find more subdued alternatives to those names.
My last tip: sometimes you just have to take a break and step away for awhile. Come back after a few weeks or even a few months and explore with fresh eyes.
If you are not about to be pregnant, I would just not think about it. I was never into male names at all until suddenly I couldn’t get enough of them. I wouldn’t worry about it until I was pregnant.
Maybe [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m], [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m]?
I’ve never been as into boy names as girl names an here I am naming boy #2. What has helped me is taking names that peaked my interest but I wasn’t in love with and researching the heck out of them. [name_m]Reading[/name_m] about their origins, famous namesakes, thinking in detail about nicknames… it’s always really interesting. And sometimes it would leave me still thinking cool name but probably not for me. Other times it has made me go from thinking “not for me, but nice” to “oh my gosh I can’t think of a more perfect name do my son!”
I’m actually more in love with the name we have picked out for boy #2 than I was with boy #1s name because of this method I used to find it. (Though I have no regrets on my son’s name. It’s his dad’s all time favorite, which makes me happy. And it fits him perfectly!)
