I just need help! over thinking things or my style has suddenly changed.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I feel like I have lost my way, with my girls names.

I have always loved short spunky, vintage feeling names for girls. As I just knew, my girl would have enough character to pull off something like, [name_f]Elodie[/name_f],
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f],
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f],
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f],
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] ([name_f]Molly[/name_f] is DH and I’s top name at the moment, but Im quickly going off it and feel meh about them).

But I feel myself pulling away to names like, I feel like they are safe, but I have always considered this style as boring. But now I am thinking serious thoughts about her not being judged by her name and having something that could work if she became President, an Astronaut or an Artist. As opposed to just thinking of a spunky toddler and my friends gushing over the birth announcement.

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f],
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f],
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f],
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f],
[name_f]Demelza[/name_f],
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f],

Im kind of meh about them too, except perhaps for [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], because of the nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or maybe I could stretch it to [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]? I had started to put these names as middles, for a funkier first, But now I feel torn.

Perhaps as this baby becomes more ‘real’ in my mind I am feeling like more ‘serious’ names?

Or am I over thinking all this? I feel like nothing jumps out at me anymore.

[name_m]Ive[/name_m] hit a wall. SO what do you think of the names above? Are they all terrible? or have I just not found the ‘right’ name yet.

Slams head against brick wall I need some name sage advice Berries

[name_m]How[/name_m] about a longer, more classical name that could then be shortened to a spunkier short? Seems like that way, you could have the best of both worlds!
I.e. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Lexy[/name_f]

Honestly, I think the only name people might have trouble taking seriously is [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] (but it’s a cute name, and if you really want to use it you still could as a nickname for [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] or [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]). Also, I don’t consider [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] or [name_f]Demelza[/name_f] boring at all.

[name_m]Lord[/name_m], do I know what you mean. I love a name deeply and passionately for about five minutes and then, like you said, meh, I’m kind of over it.

It’d be fine because, really, names are frigging fun, but it becomes so stressful when you’re getting close to signing a birth certificate and you think you might not find “the” name.

My biggest fear is we will use a flash-in-the-pan name (we think we really love but really we love it because it’s shiny and new), rather than a tried-and-true name we’ve always liked but have never been convinced of.

My solution? I’ve handed this entire nasty problem to my husband because if it were up to me, I’d never make up my mind. So I’m giving him a list of names I like and I’ll make him do the picking. my theory is, if I don’t have to make up my mind, I’ll never be able to change it. And then I can stop torturing myself!

THIS!! is exactly it, better then I could explain.

When my son was born, I had a name list about 30 names long and my husband walked over and said he looks like a [name_m]Jed[/name_m], I was so bewildered and overwhelmed, I just was like ‘okay’ and he sent a birth announcement out before I had time to think.

Right now I am thinking of long formal names with cute funky nn’s ( I have been obsessing all day)

So now I am thinking Phillippa NN [name_u]Pepper[/name_u], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] NN [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] and __________ nn [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] on the list. DH hates [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], I am not Fond Of [name_f]Bridgette[/name_f] or the variations.
Maybe I could still go Nature theme themed with [name_f]Florence[/name_f] NN [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_u]Wren[/name_u].

I think [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] sound a bit more formal or grown up (?) than the nickname names of [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]. For what it’s worth, my daughter is names [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and her nickname for a year or so was [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]! I heard a little girl being called [name_f]Flossie[/name_f] in the park the other day, which I was thinking was a nickname for [name_f]Florence[/name_f]? Thought it was cute!

I’ve had the same issue. I like short and spunky styles but like the idea of them having a longer more formal name. We have a [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_m]Whitaker[/name_m], and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. All of our kids have nicknames they go by as well as their formal names. For example our son’s name is [name_m]Whitaker[/name_m] but we also use the shortened nickname [name_u]Whit[/name_u]. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]'s middle name is [name_u]Finch[/name_u] and her nickname (because of her middle name) is [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. If we have another boy we’ll name him [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] and his nickname will be [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] and if we have a girl it will likely be [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Luella[/name_f] with the nickname [name_u]Lou[/name_u]/[name_u]Lue[/name_u].

I like the idea of a pretty name shortened to a spunky nn too. I’m thinking of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]), or [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Tabby[/name_f]) right now. But then I get so tired of things so quickly, that I’m over them already after almost 9 months… and I’m SO indecisive I feel like this baby may never get named. Maybe I will let my husband do it so I can stop agonizing!! Of yours, I like Phillippa nn [name_u]Pepper[/name_u], I also like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Mollie[/name_f], probably like that the best. [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] should not be the formal name. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is cute but is on one of the “about to explode in popularity lists” that I saw, so if you want something more unique, that may not be the way to go.

I think [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] nun [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] or [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is adorable and has both the formal and spunky covered.

For [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] you could consider the longer forms of [name_f]Alberta[/name_f], [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f], [name_u]Aberdeen[/name_u]
