I Love Bill! Do You? Why Doesn't Nameberry?

Thoughts? I just think its classic, sophisticated, simple, intelligent, dignified, straightforward and can adapt to be spunky, playful and intellectual. All discussion and arguments welcome!

I like [name_m]Bill[/name_m] because its my brother’s name. We called him [name_u]Billy[/name_u] when he was younger and now he goes by [name_m]Bill[/name_m]. It ages well

I like [name_m]Bill[/name_m]. It’s nice, simple, proper and I also like [name_u]Billy[/name_u] for a boy and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl! And when I was little I used to love a TV show called [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Bill[/name_m].

I hate it. Makes me think “I have to pay that bill!”. To me [name_m]Bill[/name_m] just screams “owing $”. I prefer [name_m]Will[/name_m] names.

The old [name_m]Bill[/name_m] is slang for the police in the UK, [name_m]Bill[/name_m] reminds me so much of the police drama The [name_m]Bill[/name_m]. Great show that is now cancelled, other than that my friend has a baby brother named [name_u]Billy[/name_u]. It’s a nice name, just not my favourite.

Well in the US
there’s a play bill
I pay the bills
There are dollar bills
A duck has a bill
Generally [name_m]Bill[/name_m] is what you call [name_m]William[/name_m] so you don’t have to call him [name_m]Will[/name_m]…
You have free will
[name_f]Do[/name_f] what you will
Write a will
… [name_m]Bill[/name_m] was extremely popular as a nickname over the last couple generations, [name_u]Billy[/name_u]'s were everywhere… That said I would look at [name_m]Williams[/name_m] popularity I think people are just looking for a change. However [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl I think is going up

It’s more a dad name right now, for the generation naming, but I think it will come back around in another generation. I think actually that [name_u]Billie[/name_u] might come back first as a girl’s name. I could see boyish nicknames (like in the 1920-40’s) making a comeback. They have a fun nostalgic vibe.

I think [name_m]Bill[/name_m] and [name_m]Bob[/name_m] both need a few more decades before they sound fresh again. They’re uncle names to me.

[name_m]Bill[/name_m] is okay, and so is [name_u]Billy[/name_u] (on a young boy.) [name_f]My[/name_f] grandfather is a [name_m]William[/name_m] that goes by [name_m]Bill[/name_m] only.

I’ve very mixed feeling on [name_m]Bill[/name_m]. Half the time I like it, reminds me of the lead singer of a the band Tokio Hotel, sounds short and simple, and a bit playful but can be manly, or turned to [name_m]William[/name_m] to be more professional, or [name_u]Billy[/name_u]/ [name_u]Billie[/name_u] to be more youthful.

On the other hand, I know a [name_m]Bill[/name_m] who in his twenties hates his name cause of it’s lack of sophistication and that everyone’s always known him as [name_m]Bill[/name_m] and he can’t get them to refer to him as [name_m]William[/name_m].

It also seems to remind me on occasion strongly of “A [name_m]Bill[/name_m] to pay” which seems dry and gives me images of boring papers. Of Unhappy slumpy middle aged men.

I think it’s a name that a persons really got to have a lively personality to fill out and own properly, to distract all the negative boring connotation it might give.

I prefer [name_u]Billy[/name_u]/[name_u]Billie[/name_u] to be honest.
