I love it but is it even a real name? 🙈

I have no idea how you would spell it…

Reubess? Reubiss? Rubess?

Its pronounced the same as [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] or [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] with ss on the end

[name_f]My[/name_f] daughter randomly started naming her bear it and we love it :see_no_evil:

But I hate the way it looks written down?

Help

I can’t find anything that proves it’s an actual name, but it might work. I’d spell it Reubes.

It reminds me of Rubeus, like [name_m]Hagrid[/name_m]'s first name in [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I’d probably spell it Rubes, but it’d get pronounced to rhyme with cubes a lot.

It sounds familiar to me but I’m wondering if it’s because it almost reminds me of Rubik’s, as well as [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]/Ruben.

I like the look of @ethelmary suggested spelling of Reubes but I would suggest spelling it Rubis since I don’t think that would get any mispronunciations

It reminds me of Rubik’s cube. It definitely sounds like it could be a name.

I like the spelling Rubeus, thanks! Would the pronunciation be right? I don’t think I’ve ever heard it being said

I’ve only heard Rubeus pronounced as roo-be-iss.

Aw no that doesn’t work then :frowning:

I’d spell it Rubus or Reubus

Perhaps it could be spelt Rubous, as in perilous?

Maybe it’s like [name_m]Regis[/name_m] but with a B? Rebis?

Is it real? Well it’s being used as a name by your daughter so yes. Maybe not established though.

I would go with Reubis or Reubus (very subtle change in pronunciation, but I think the u looks nicer.)

No idea whether it’s a real name, but it sounds plausibly like one! I’d spell it Rubis I think.

That seems accurate enough

[name_f]My[/name_f] son is [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] and I call him Reubes a lot, said roobs. I’d spell it Reubis for the spelling, Rubis reminds me of Rubix cube. Maybe even Reubus. It could work!

So, this is just [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] with a B instead of F. So, Rubus or Reubus would be the spelling that gets me there the most effectively. I also think of Rubeus [name_m]Hagrid[/name_m], and I do like Rubeus better than Rubus/Reubus personally, but only slightly.

Rubus just looks so much cleaner than any of the suggestions with a double vowel. I think I would be mispronouncing most of them. I definitely vote Rubus!

Rubens?

I like the suggestion of Reubus best! I think that or Rubus would be the most intuitive. It could definitely work though!

Rubis (like the words, Anubis and pubis)

Lol…FWIW, this is super close to Rubix. How would you feel about Rubix?

Thoughts on other spellings:

  • And ending of -ys, depending on location/language, can be pronounced like -iz
  • Rubus could be mispronounced as even-syllabled with long vowels in both instances, which I dont think you want. Roo-boos.
  • Reubes and Rubes are both roobz.
