I Love This Name, But

And there’s always a but, isn’t there?

I love the name [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]! Especially with the nickname [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. I have a soft spot for “stuffy” old names that make you think of stodgy old men fond of sweater vests and button downs. I’m not planning on having kids or anything, but maybe for the near future. So, is [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] strong enough on its own or do I move it to the middle spot?

[name_m]Archie[/name_m] is cute. I know Archies who are actually Arthurs, which is old and sweater-vest-ish but not QUITE on the same crustiness level as [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]? I feel like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is very usable, and that [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is cuter than [name_m]Art[/name_m]/[name_m]Artie[/name_m].

names with the -bald suffix seem problematic to me, no offense.

None taken

I see what you mean, but I like [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] in its entirety, warts and all haha. The only issue with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is my uncle’s name is [name_m]Arturo[/name_m] which is basically the same, So [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is unusable to me, and I don’t like [name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Artie[/name_m] as a nickname.

Archimedes is another way of getting to [name_m]Archie[/name_m] Nothing wrong with [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] though.

I like [name_m]Archie[/name_m] (Bunker and the comic notwithstanding), and I don’t find the formal [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] problematic.

renrose: Ooh I do like me some Archimedes! I never knew it was a way to get to [name_m]Archie[/name_m] so thank you! I just don’t know if it’s practical enough for a first name… at least for my personal tastes. Also for your [name_f]Aira[/name_f] combo I like the name [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] for you.

freya: HA! I completely forget about that! Funnily enough my mom hated her name [name_f]Edith[/name_f] for that same reason (the Bunkers). Thank you for your opinion, the only issue is the “bald” part but until his 40s future [name_m]Archie[/name_m] won’t have to worry, especially as a kindergartner with a full head of hair lol.

[name_m]Archibald[/name_m] would be rough, but I love Archimedes! [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] puts me in mind of actor [name_u]Cary[/name_u] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] who changed his name from [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] Leach. I much prefer [name_u]Cary[/name_u].

I love it too! Archimedes is dashing, BUT my name is [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and I loathe it with the intensity of a thousand burning suns. So I’m changing it. Because of that I personally would only use Archimedes as a middle name, but if later he wanted it as a first by all means I would love that. There’s a [name_m]Guy[/name_m] [name_m]Ritchie[/name_m] film with a character named [name_m]Archie[/name_m] which is why I like it, and I love Mr. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] but I think he changed it for more star quality. And I love A [name_m]Fish[/name_m] Called [name_f]Wanda[/name_f], [name_m]Archie[/name_m] Leach is a character inspired name wise by old [name_u]Cary[/name_u].

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] is a much less fancy way to get to [name_m]Archie[/name_m] than [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] or Archimedes, but it’s also a name he wouldn’t be as likely to want to change when he gets older.

I have an [name_m]Archie[/name_m]! His full name is [name_m]Archer[/name_m].

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] isn’t really my style, I don’t really like word/occupation names, which sadly rules out [name_f]Poet[/name_f]. And with [name_m]Archer[/name_m] I always think of the tv show, but perhaps if I mull it over I might like it?
