I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u]! I think with all the [name_f]Molly[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Emma[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Polly[/name_f] type names that [name_u]Josie[/name_u] fits in fine as a first! I would pick [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] second.

I may not be the best one to be responding to this, but I’m actually not that fond of [name_m]Jos[/name_m]!e, myself. The one [name_m]Jos[/name_m]!e I do know (whose full name is [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]!ne) is quite whiny and bratty, and while I’m a huge fan of kids in general, she really annoys me. I think she probably has a really good heart, but her mannerisms annoy me enough that I’m not the hugest fan of her. :frowning: [name_u]Josie[/name_u] seems, to me, a bit too sweet, and cutesy. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] is a really beautiful combo, though, and flows a lot better than I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] would.

I do love [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] certainly works as a nn for it, but I think that you should be able to use the name you really want to. Your mom already had her shot, and now you get to. If you like [name_u]Josie[/name_u], you should go straight to [name_u]Josie[/name_u], and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] is really fantastic. I personally would have gone for [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Joss[/name_u] or Jossey!), but since this isn’t about me, I think you should go straight to [name_u]Josie[/name_u], since that’s what you love. Either [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] or [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] are both really great.

Good luck!

I prefer [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nickname

I like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] but not [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]… so I guess that answers your question?

I personally prefer longer givin names that have good nicknames. I love [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nickname and I see no reason why you couldn’t call her that for the most part, however I personally would give her a longer given name that she could grow into if she so chooses. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] is beautiful, sophisticated, classy, feminine name that will really fit your daughter when she is older and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is an adorable nickname for while she is a child.

I think if you like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] on it’s own then use it as is
I really like [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] & [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - I personally voted [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but think [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is the way to go if your sister wants [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].

I voted for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] before reading your post. After, Id say [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] (I dont like the name but seems to fit your circumstances). Ibthibk [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is very much a nickname and not a name for an adult.

Would you mind helping me out with my names?

While I’m normally a fan of longer name, I think you should just love the name you (and your husband) love… and ignore your mom. She’ll love the baby anyway, and gradually she’ll accept her name.

This. I feel like people who give their children nicknamey names are doing them a bit of a disservice as there isn’t much flexibility with them. In your place I would use [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] “[name_u]Josie[/name_u]”. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is cute but doesn’t pass my “[name_m]Judge[/name_m] test”. [name_m]Judge[/name_m] [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] sounds a bit silly - [name_m]Judge[/name_m] [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] sounds dignified and classy.

I like both names but that’s just too many [name_u]Jo[/name_u]'s for one family lol. I think you should go back to the drawing board and start from scratch and pick out a name u and your hubby both love.

I would do [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (so regal!) or [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f], and save [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nickname. That way, she can use [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] for formal occasions or important documents, while [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is for friends, family, and fun. You’re giving your daughter a choice, but with “[name_u]Josie[/name_u],” she can’t be anything else. It’s like giving her a formal dress and a casual outfit, versus only a casual outfit and expecting her to wear it all the time, even to formal occasions.

I once knew someone named [name_f]Lily[/name_f] who was asked all the time if “[name_f]Lily[/name_f]” was short for “[name_f]Lilian[/name_f].” It wasn’t, and it frustrated her. She eventually had her name legally changed to “[name_f]Lilian[/name_f],” but she still had us call her “[name_f]Lily[/name_f].” She just made her nickname officially a nickname.

I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but I don’t really like [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. I am actually thinking about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] as a middle name to honor my grandpa [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].

There are a lot of nicknames used as full names these days, so it’s perfectly reasonable to use just [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. And [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is freakin adorable.

My main concerns would be that if you [name_m]SIL[/name_m] has reserved [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] as her middle name I don’t know how comfortable I’d be with putting it as my daughter’s first name. I guess it’s not a huge deal, but it would bug me a bit.
Second, I prefer names with some options and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] seems like it doesn’t have a ton of flexibility. If it’s the only name you love, then that’s totally not a bad thing, just…something to consider.

If it were me, I’d name her [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] and use [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nn.

I love the beautiful stately [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!

I think you answered your own question.
You love [name_u]Josie[/name_u].
Use [name_u]Josie[/name_u].
It doesn’t matter what anyone else likes, this is your decision.
