I’ve come to realize, lately, just how many [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]-similar names I’ve come to love, and while I don’t mind having two (or even three!) names on my list that are that similar (mainly because my list is so long right now), I’m not sure I’m okay with having six or so such similar names!
See what I mean? [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] might be fine, or even [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f], but I don’t think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] are, or [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] (even if I would plan to use [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as a nn), or [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], or even [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f], even though they’re not related… Not to mention the fact that [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is already firmly ensconced on my list!
I need to cut it down to at least two (besides [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]), but I don’t know where to start! Realistically, I probably won’t ever use more than one of them (including [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]), but I’m okay with having a few on my list at the same time right now. Which two would you pick? Opinions on them all?
I would cut [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] but would probably use it as a nn for one of your other E names. That way you can use two favorites! [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are all on my long list as well and I always go back and forth on which one I like the most. If I had to choose today I would probably go with [name_f]Elena[/name_f].
Actually, I have the same problem. So many names on my list are similar ([name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_f]Lenore[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], etc). At this point I decided to just let them be, I’ll eventually have to pick one when I actually have a kid, but that’s still years from now.
From your list, though, I prefer [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. I pick [name_f]Leona[/name_f] over [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is already [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]'s middle name. You can always use [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleni[/name_f].
I would pick [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as the nickname. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is fine as well. I dislike [name_f]Leona[/name_f] and [name_f]Lenora[/name_f].
Thanks, everyone! I’m leaning toward axing [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], even though I love it a lot, and I had originally been thinking of using [name_f]Elena[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] (which had been on my list before the [name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Leona[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] explosion!). I feel like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is more of a MN contender for me, but I just can’t seem to make room for her, which is making me quite sad. le sigh. I want to be able to use [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Leona[/name_f], and I have to cut at least two. le sigh.
I’ve been thinking about [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Romina[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] as combos, but that doesn’t really sway me toward anything. le sigh.
I love [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] a lot, too, but don’t know where to put her, either.
When I have this problem I just put them all in a row and treat them as if they are the same name until I really need to decide. For example I like almost all the [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nns and offshoots, [name_f]Greta[/name_f]/[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]/[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]/[name_f]Peggy[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f]/[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (but ironically not [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] at all, believe me I have tried to like it) so I just list them like that and then change my mind which is the best every other day. Problem solved!
It can be really helpful way of eliminating names. I like all the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names, which means [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] has been knocked off because it rhymes too much [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]/[name_u]Josie[/name_u].
I like lots of names that rhyme with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. I haven’t decided about that one yet but I would then probably have to either knock [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] of the [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-names list or decide that [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] fits two of my categories, ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]-names’ and ‘rhymes-with-[name_f]Lily[/name_f]’ and cross off all the other names from the list. Does that make sense?
It seems to me like you have two categories going on “[name_f]El[/name_f]” names and “leo” names. I’d divide them into two lists and see which the overlap is - what name fits both? The answer is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
Also [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is a really beautiful name!
