I need a compromise

My husband and I have really different taste in names.

He just adores the name [name]Aiden[/name]. He really wants a son named [name]Aiden[/name].
It means fiery and he thinks thats really cool or something.

His other favorites include:
[name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Mason[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name]
[name]Carson[/name]

I don’t mind these names, I just like more traditional names. We know at least one little guy with each of these names, but that doesn’t seem to bother him.

My favorite boy names are [name]Henry[/name], [name]Charles[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]George[/name], and [name]Theodore[/name].

So I guess what I’m asking is…Is there a happy medium between these two styles of names? Or are we stuck?

What if you chose a more traditional name with a “cool” meaning?

For instance, I would consider [name]Rhys[/name] to be quite traditional, and it means fiery aswell. [name]Vincent[/name] seems to be some what of a classic name, and it’s meaning is conqueror.

[name]Do[/name] you think that is something both yourself and your husband would like?

[name]Imo[/name] I think your husband likes the ON sounds at the end of a name and you are more attracted to names that have a classic feel regardless of the letter sounds. You have to find a name that hits both?

Maybe
[name]Orson[/name]
[name]Jason[/name]
[name]Anson[/name]
[name]Jensen[/name] (Scandinavian)
[name]Nelson[/name]
[name]Wilson[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Nathan[/name]
[name]Stephen[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]

I love [name]Charles[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Jackson[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name]. [name]Mason[/name] is good, too. [name]Don[/name]'t care for [name]Carson[/name] or [name]Theodore[/name] at all.

Besides [name]Aiden[/name], other long- A names that sound tough include:

[name]Asa[/name] (nn [name]Ace[/name])
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Abram[/name] (nn [name]Abe[/name] or [name]Bram[/name])
[name]Avery[/name]
[name]Aymon[/name]

I think any of these mix well with the above favorites. Another name that might blend your two styles is [name]Samuel[/name] ([name]Sam[/name]).

The first name I thought of was [name]Samson[/name]. It’s a traditional sounding name that you like, with a cool nn in [name]Sam[/name] and the ‘-son’ ending he seems to like, others may be…

[name]Gibson[/name]
[name]Jameson[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name] nn jake
[name]Sawyer[/name] - a literary connection as well as a cool name
[name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Austin[/name]/[name]Austen[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Xander[/name]
[name]Brennan[/name]
[name]Julius[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]

It’s difficult to find a happy medium, a solution could be one person chooses the FN and the other chooses the mn or you can choose a name outside of both your styles.
[name]Hope[/name] this helped! Good luck!

DH also likes the name [name]James[/name]. Its my FIL’s name, though he goes by [name]Jim[/name].

Any mn ideas? I’ve always thought of [name]James[/name] as more of a middle name.

[name]James[/name] is cute! Also, I like [name]Jameson[/name] (as a previous poster suggested) and it mean son of [name]James[/name] which would have special meaning since his Grandpa is named [name]James[/name]. Also, it appears your husband likes names that end in -son.

I really like [name]Theodore[/name] as a middle name. It was my favorite of your list of names.

Name him [name]Jackson[/name] and call him [name]Jack[/name]. It’s trendy for him, it’s traditional for you, it’s the whole package. I consider [name]Mason[/name] to be a very traditional name since it has it’s roots in the trades. A mason is a stone worker.

We both like [name]Jackson[/name], but its been used several times in our family. [name]Both[/name] on my side and on his.
