I need advice choosing a name!

[name]Hi[/name], I am a 17 year old high school student in Australia but my real name is really ugly, it is 19 letters long and a very weird name. My name is Valizadeh Baghjeghaz, pretty ugly eh… before I go to university I really want to change it to a nice English name.
I was born in Australia and I speak perfect English, I also look European but my parents chose that ugly name for me… so I really want to change it lol
I also heard that having an English name is good with employment and all that stuff
I am thinking about changing it to something really popular like [name]John[/name] [name]Smith[/name] so that I blend in but I don’t think it suits me. I like the first name [name]Blake[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Hector[/name], [name]Mason[/name] etc… as you can see I like names that sound kind of badass so any suggestions?

I think you should keep the first initial so it’s a change but not a crazy stretch. I also love the V start to your name, makes it unique and interesting. So what about other V names such as…

[name]Vance[/name]
[name]Vander[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]
Vayden
Vayne
[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Vidal[/name]
Virdan
[name]Vernon[/name]
[name]Vijay[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Virgil[/name]
[name]Vito[/name]

Or what about just going by [name]Val[/name]? It certainly works for [name]Val[/name] Kilmer :O)

Your name isn’t ugly at all, just part of a cultural tradition that’s not widely known in the Anglo world. It’s your choice to change it of course but I hope you can come to feel less dislike for it.

Besides sticking to a V name, which I think is a nice suggestion, another place to look would be names with a meaning related to whatever the meaning of your name is. [name]Do[/name] you know it or could you find out?

Is the B your middle or last name? Are you wanting to change that too? I would really recommend sticking to your own last name but I can’t really justify exactly why either. With that I would DEFINITELY stick to something related to the name itself, this is pretty common in the US, Bagan comes to mind as one simplification that still touches on the sounds of the name.

You like kind of tough sounding, macho sounding names - I am drawing blanks for some reason, but Nameberry has lists of these - Go to the lists section and see what you find!

Good luck!

I think [name]Vincent[/name] is nice. Simple, manly, easily understood by even simple-minded Aussies. [name]Vince[/name] for short.

[name]Victor[/name] is nice except for [name]Victa[/name] lawnmowers being so big in [name]Oz[/name]. [name]Vic[/name] is very simple as a nickname though.

[name]Vincent[/name] [name]Blake[/name] would be a nice nod to your initials. [name]Blaze[/name] would be maybe TOO badass?

Your name isn’t ugly, it’s Persian. And since Farsi and English are pretty widely separated, it’s trouble. I understand your reasons for wanting to change, and do think it might makes things a little bit easier. What do your friends call you now? Can you think of anything related to that? [name]How[/name] do you feel about the rest of your Persian culture? Would it be odd to call yourself ‘[name]John[/name] [name]Smith[/name]’ and give up on everything else Iranian? Lastly, how would your family feel if you changed-- especially if you changed your surname?

I would simplify but not whitewash your surname. Does Jeghaz seem OK to you? Does it mean anything-- esp anything bad-- in Farsi?

Likewise-- your name change will feel more organic, and be more acceptable to those around you, if it’s somewhat related to your original name. If you want something badass, [name]Val[/name] itself would be fine (think [name]Val[/name] Kilmer). Or:

[name]Vale[/name]
Valon
[name]Vance[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]

If your nickname is on the central part of your name, Lizadeh, you could try:

[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Linton[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name]

As for a middle name, is your current middle name your dad’s name? Or do you not have one at all?

[name]How[/name] would you feel being:

[name]Vaughn[/name] [name]Linton[/name] Jeghaz?
[name]Vance[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name] Jeghaz?
[name]Val[/name] [name]Baron[/name] Jeghaz?

I like the idea of [name]Val[/name] and [name]Vaughn[/name]. Also, [name]Jay[/name] sounds like a badass name.
