I Need Help, Deciding a Name for Our Daughter... and I Am, So Lost!

I am, in need of name help! We, have three boys… and their names… seemed, so easy to pick out, but once, I found out, I was… having a girl… this hasn’t seemed, so easy! I have, three first names… and a few middle names… but, I love them… ALL! Which, isn’t making, this easy. :frowning: My son’s names, are classic and traditional. My first son, was named after his father… he, is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Angelo[/name_m] Koch [name_f]VI[/name_f], then my two other son’s… [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] Koch, and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] Koch. My name, is [name_f]Laura[/name_f] and of course my husband’s name, is [name_m]Charles[/name_m].

The first names, I like, are…
1.) [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
2.) [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
3.) [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], is… first, you don’t hear it, as much… it’s girly, it means four and my daughter, will be the fourth (and last  ), and it’s the shortened version of [name_f]Theresa[/name_f].

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], is… first, it’s pretty and elegant… but, this name… I could, give more meaning to. My grandfather’s name, was [name_m]Charles[/name_m]… and the female version of [name_m]Charles[/name_m], is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]… every weekend when, I was younger… I would, do everything and anything with my grandfather and grandmother. They, meant, so much to me… more, than, I could ever describe, or write. Once, they, both passed… I was… beyond devastated. It was, the worst period of time of my life. I would, do everything with them… weekends and weekdays… you name it… we, did it. I loved, them, so much.

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Grace[/name_f], is… it’s pretty, elegant and girly. [name_f]Grace[/name_f], is my middle name and was my husband’s, grandmother’s middle name. Her, name, was [name_f]Janet[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. My husband likes, [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and thinks it flows well.

The middle name, I like…
1.) [name_f]Roberta[/name_f]
2.) [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
3.) [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
4.) [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Roberta[/name_f], is… [name_f]Roberta[/name_f], was my grandmother’s name and like, I said, about my grandfather… she, meant the world to me and we, did everything together. She, was very successful, just like my grandfather and also amazing. I could, only hope my daughter, will be half of the person my grandmother was. We, did everything together on weekends and weekdays. I probably, had the best relationship with my grandmother and grandfather… than anyone, else. They, meant the world to me.

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Anne[/name_f], is… well, after St. [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and she, was a great saint and mother to [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. You, also don’t hear the name, as much.

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Louise[/name_f], is… it flows well, with a lot of these names and is very pretty. It, is a elegant and pretty name, you also, don’t hear, as much.

The reason, I like the name [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], is… we, had a great family friend, who, I loved, so much… who sadly passed away and her, name was [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. We, called her, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

When, I found out, I was having a girl… I was, almost dead set on the [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]… because, I love it, so much. But when, I thought of the name… [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] and the meaning it could have… and what a great way to remember the two people, I loved most in my life… I loved it. But then, my husband brought up [name_f]Grace[/name_f]… UGH. The endless possibilities! What do, you all think? What should, I do?

Thank you!
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]

I love the idea of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] and the meaning behind it. If fit has meaning to you use it! All your possibilities are beautiful, but I think the meaning behind [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] outweighs the other choices.

I would say [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]Charles[/name_m] but that’s just my persona opinion. Since your frst son has [name_m]Charles[/name_m], that could be honoring your grandfather as well as being named aftr your DH. You could think of it as honoring them both, instead of using [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] too.

It seems you really love the name [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is nice and I would say [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] because of the meanings to you. It’s not my favorite flow but it doesn’t sound horrible and middle names aren’t said often, if at all, especially when they are older.

My favorite combo taking into account meanings to you, flow and your boys’names is [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f]. It seems very important to you to honor your grandparents an[name_f]Roberta[/name_f] does just that. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] sounds perfect with your other boys as its classic, simple and sweet.

I also lke [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], if that would be an option. But [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] isstill my first pick.

Congrats and good luck!

I like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. I think it’s soo cute. I’m kind of in the same boat as you. I have four boys and now I am pregnant with my girl! Picking their names seemed so much easier. I have [name_m]Chace[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], [name_m]Bryson[/name_m] and [name_u]Rylen[/name_u] and I am at a complete stand still trying to find a name for my daughter!

I’d nix [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] since you already have a son named [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. If you wanted to use something that comes from the name [name_m]Charles[/name_m] but sounds less like it, there’s the lovely [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] Koch sounds great to me. Or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as a middle name - [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Koch; [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] Koch?

I don’t know where you got your information, but Nameberry’s listings for [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] don’t mention either of them meaning “four” - if that’s important to you, you may want to look into it further. That said, I really like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], on its own and as a nickname for [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]. I find it lively and feminine and sweet. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] Koch; [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Koch… it fits well with pretty much all of the middle names you like.

I like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but prefer virtue names in the middle name spot (ever since I met a clumsy girl named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and she seemed clumsier to me because of her name). I also find [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Koch a bit abrupt. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Koch? [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Koch?

I agree that you have to nix [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], since you have a [name_m]Charles[/name_m], unless you call him [name_m]Angelo[/name_m]?

I love PP’s suggestion of [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. It’s beautiful and classic and perfect with your boys. I think you did an amazing job choosing your boy names and your girl deserves something equally elegant and classic. Therefore, I’d drop [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], but she doesn’t hold up to your sons’ names. Unless you’re open to [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Esther[/name_f] to get to [name_f]Tess[/name_f]/a?

I love [name_f]Grace[/name_f] for you. It is rather abrupt with your surname, but only you can decide whether it’s a deal-breaker - obviously you didn’t mind [name_m]Charles[/name_m] Koch. It’s my favourite of your three choices.

I’d also recommend using [name_f]Louise[/name_f] in the first spot. It’s a name you love and it goes so well with your sibset. [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] or [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be beautiful.

They are ALL beautiful! Is there one of them that just turns you into a puddle, speeds up your heart rate, and indicates that you love it more than the others :)? It may be [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] from your comments, or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. That is the one I hope you can identify and I’m not sure when your due date is, but maybe you just need to let it be for a short time. Would giving her three names appeal to you? I really like the idea of using [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] in the middle.

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]

I would choose [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], as [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] seem to close for siblings (what if they both go by [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] in HS??) and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is quite popular!

I agree with all the posters that think [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. If you are set on using it, I would recommend it as a middle.

Or - have you considered two middles to incorporate the names with so much meaning to you? Examples:

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] Koch
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Koch
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Koch

As for names meaning four - the first classic ones that popped into my head were [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] because of the [name_m]French[/name_m] word for four (quatre which sounds like [name_f]Kat[/name_f]) and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (get it, IV?).

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] means “free man” - so here are some names that mean free that could still honor the spirit of [name_m]Charles[/name_m]:

[name_f]Camila[/name_f] / [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] (also french like [name_m]Charles[/name_m])
[name_f]Camile[/name_f] (also french)
Teanna
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
Lysandra
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
Franchesca

I would not use [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as a sibling name with [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. If you want to honor both your grandparents with her name then I would go with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f].

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] wow ours be my choice for you.

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be my choice. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is one of my very favorite names.

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

All three are lovely choices. Your sons have very classic names. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] fits best in that regard. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. I really love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], but it does bother me that the style is so different than your sons. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be perfect. Suggestions:

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]-first name
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]-first name
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]

I love your names. I also like the previous suggestions of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Marilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Thomasina[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Kyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Catalina[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! Though, in all honesty, [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would be perfection.

I agree with the others–I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and think the significance is lovely, but with [name_m]Charles[/name_m] already (who could honor your husband, and his father, and all the other [name_m]Charles[/name_m] Angelos! But also your grandfather), it seems rather repetitive (although there are nicknames that could differentiate, like [name_f]Lola[/name_f] or [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]/[name_f]Lotte[/name_f], but I think it’s better to avoid in general). I adore [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a name, and I especially love it with [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]–it continues that classic feel that [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] doesn’t quite have (which feels more modern and sweet), and is distinctive from [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], and [name_m]Henry[/name_m], unlike [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. All three names are utterly fantastic, though, and I love all three.

I would vote for [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [something]–I think all the mns but [name_f]Anne[/name_f] work really well with her–but I also love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [something]. I really like all the mns with both [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (and love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] as a mn to [name_f]Grace[/name_f] too!).

I can see your problem, haha–they’re all so fantastic! I think I’d go with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], personally, although I would love the meaning behind [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f].

Good luck!

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is one of my favorite names also so I would definitely use that!

When I first saw your list I thought [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] sounded like a great combo and then realized those were just your first name options. If I had to choose one from your middle list I would pick:

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

I would still pick [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!

I like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a first name, but none of the rest do much for me. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]?

Well, you’ve already got a [name_m]Charles[/name_m], so I would discount [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. They’re far too close.

I personally like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Roberta[/name_f] with your last name. [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] would make great sibling names.

I.love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
