I need the "experts" on this one!!

[name]Hi[/name] Berries! Helping out a friend who is in the process of adopting a newborn. They could have a baby any day now and they are STUCK for girl’s names! If it’s a boy, they’ve chosen C@mden Bl@ine or C@mden Nol@n.

Naming Style: “Nothing weird or overused. A little bit different but classy.” Basically, recognizable, but not so popular that she’ll end up “[name]Ella[/name] L” in Kindergarten. Last name starts with L, ends with S, and is 2 syllables.

Mom likes proper, elegant, old fashioned, English/dutchess names. She is a fan of “M” names. She also likes double-barrel names, but nothing too “country”. Dad likes “All American girl”, familiar, not “snooty or stuffy like [name]Eliza[/name]”.

Agreed Upon Potential Names: [name]Audrey[/name] (although Dad is on the fence), K@tie [name]Lynn[/name] (double name; not sure it’s “the one”)

Mom Likes: [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Michelle[/name], [name]Carmen[/name], [name]Mackenna[/name], [name]Mila[/name], [name]Halle[/name], [name]Macy[/name]
Dad Likes: [name]Beth[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Teagan[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] (sometimes)

Vetoed by Mom or Dad: [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Madeline[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Teagan[/name], [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Misha[/name], [name]Jordan[/name], [name]Tyler[/name], [name]Madison[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Blake[/name], [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Kaitlyn[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], ‘all bible names’, ‘80’s names’ ([name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Tiffany[/name], [name]Stephanie[/name], etc), [name]Alicia[/name], [name]Ann[/name], “anything that ends with L or S or ley”

Not a [name]Fan[/name]: [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Isabel[/name], ‘anything starting with L’, [name]Paisley[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Taylor[/name], [name]Suzannah[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Johannah[/name], [name]Myla[/name], [name]Kailyn[/name], [name]Alana[/name], “big city names” ([name]Phoenix[/name], [name]Dallas[/name], etc), “[name]Julie[/name]” names, “[name]Abby[/name]” names, “[name]Gabby[/name]” names, “[name]Addy[/name]” names, “[name]Ellie[/name]” names, [name]Alyssa[/name], [name]Aubrey[/name], [name]Heidi[/name], [name]Adrienne[/name], [name]Audriana[/name], [name]Ava[/name], [name]Emerson[/name], [name]Emery[/name], [name]Ellery[/name], [name]Moira[/name], [name]Marcy[/name], [name]Blakesley[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name]

Like but can’t use: [name]Presley[/name], [name]Kendall[/name], [name]Kinsley[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Jocelyn[/name], [name]Jessa[/name], [name]Maya[/name], [name]Ella[/name], [name]Esme[/name], [name]Ariel[/name], [name]Phoenix[/name]

***Most of the “Not a [name]Fan[/name]” names were suggested by me and vetoed. I am out of ideas! Please throw some fresh names at me so I can pass them along. Thanks in advance

I find your friend’s style to be more modern than Victorian. [name]Camden[/name] is very modern/trendy. Here are a few for the girls:

[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Kate[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Jane[/name]

[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Erin[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Cara[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]

You know, I think this is really hard because the way they describe their style and the names they like are almost completely at odds!

“Mom likes proper, elegant, old fashioned, English/dutchess names” – but the specific names she likes are [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Michelle[/name], [name]Carmen[/name], [name]Mackenna[/name], [name]Mila[/name], [name]Halle[/name], [name]Macy[/name]. These names may have their strong points, but I think [name]Audrey[/name] is the only one that could even vaguely be called proper, elegant, old-fashioned, OR English/duchess!!!

Dad, meanwhile, who professes to prefer familiar all-American girl names actually has kind of quirky taste: [name]Beth[/name], [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Teagan[/name], [name]Audrey[/name].

[name]Beth[/name] may qualify…or again, [name]Audrey[/name]. Guess it’s easy to see why [name]Audrey[/name] is the only name they can agree on!

So…a name that’s proper and elegant but not snooty (hmmmm), that sounds all-American but might also be fit for an English duchess, that’s familiar but also a little bit different!!! They don’t need an expert, they need a wizard!

OK, I’m kidding, kind of. This is exactly why names like [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Laura[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] are so popular – they cover so many bases and satisfy so many seemingly contradictory requirements at once.

People have thrown out a lot of good suggestions. Now I think we need reactions from the namers…or maybe they are just going to stick with [name]Audrey[/name]!

Wow, thanks everyone! There are some great suggestions here- I can’t wait to pass them along! I will give them to her tonight, and see what she responds to. I’ll try to respond ASAP so they can get as much feedback as possible.

[name]Pam[/name]- I think you hit the nail on the head (and the wizard comment made me LOL)! They are definitely at odds. She mentioned that they had absolutely no trouble coming up with a name for a boy. Loved the first name…family middle…done. I guided her to a website where she and her husband could find out what their “Naming Style” is, to maybe give them a bit more direction. She doesn’t know what she wants, but she certainly knows what she DOESN’T want!
