I am in desperate search of suggestions, as my entire boy list is suddenly looking like junk for various reasons.
We like strong, masculine, (often hipster and surnamey-type) options that are still fresh. Not so into the whole biblical thing. Our heritage is predominantly Irish, but no need to stick to that. We like art and literature and science.
Some choices that I like, but have had to reject because of family/friend selections or sounding weird with our one syllable last name…or are just too out there for DH…are:
I saw above that you sort of liked [name_m]Garrison[/name_m]… how about similar names, like [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], [name_f]Garnet[/name_f], or [name_m]Garrick[/name_m]?
I keep coming back to [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]. It’s been on my list for each of my kids and has never made the final cut. But it keeps popping up in my mind.
My hesitation exists because (for shame) I’m concerned about the potential backlash from the families. They know we have a tendency to choose unusual names, but [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] is a bit more off the radar than usual. We also live in a pretty non-progressive area of the country, so what is tame in other cities is GROUNDBREAKING/CRAZY here.
I just don’t want to saddle my child with something that causes more grief than interest. You know? Perspective?
I think [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] is a fine name. It’s not exactly my style but I think it’s definitely usable. If you’re worried about your families you can always give him the nn Raf which is more common.
As someone who works in education, [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] is much much less “out there” than half the names I’ve seen! (Xitaitaly, Oreo, Hennsey to name a few)
Give him the nn Raf, [name_m]Raffe[/name_m]. That’s a cool nn for a little guy!
Any other opinions? Guess I’m feeling more cowardly today because [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is my pick of the moment. This kid isn’t going to have a name at all, at this rate of indecision!
