I have an extensive girl name list, but my boy name list is just… sad, IMO. I have a few names I love but can’t use, and a few I LIKE, but don’t LOVE.
I am IN LOVE with all of our girl names, I really want to find a boy name I’m just as excited about.
Criteria:
- Ideally around 700-1,000 (ish - just a general idea) on the US popularity chart
- Should go well with our last name, which is Slavic and 2 syllables
- Easy to pronounce, not terribly fussy or high-maintenance
For reference, here are some names we both love for girls:
Florence
Harriet (nn Hattie)
Agnes/Ines
Juliet
Names I love but CAN’T use, either for family reasons or because they’re a little too high-maintenance and difficult to pronounce in the US:
Hugo
Theodore/Theo
Remy
Basil
Names I like, but don’t LOVE, mainly bc they are kind of trendy/popular:
Archer
Felix
August
Leo
Names DH loves, that I don’t like (he likes mythological/warrior-type names)"
Arthur
Soren
Balthazar
Gideon
Some names we DON’T like (either too popular, too high-maintenance, etc):
Giles/Miles
Milo/Arlo
Evander/Leander
Anything ending in -son
Anything super standard (i.e. George, Henry, James, etc. I love these but for middle names only.)
So, all things taken into account, our style is vintage-inspired, with a slight hint of mythological (due to DH’s tastes), and traditional European-sounding. And, ideally, not too popular, but also not unheard of.
I would love to discover some kind of name that’s vintage and classic and ready to come back into the limelight, like Walter or Humphrey, that doesn’t sound as high-maintenance as those do.
If you have any suggestions I would be all ears!
