I think I already know but

…can we call our baby (if a girl) [name]Libby[/name] when our DD is named [name]Abby[/name]?? Is it too similar with the ‘bby’ at the end? Would it be confusing?
This is the ONLY name OH and I both really like!

[name]Libby[/name] is cute! I do think that [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Libby[/name] would be quite confusing, though, sorry.

I think they are indeed close, but I don’t think it would be confusing. [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Abby[/name] have pretty different sounds at the front, so yelling to one or another across the yard, for instance, wouldn’t be too much of a problem [name]IMO[/name]. Is your first daughter [name]Abigail[/name]? Or would you consider naming your second daughter a longer name, like [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Liberty[/name]? I think if there was a more formal version (for either or both kids’ names) to provide a little more contrast, I wouldn’t be put off by an [name]Abby[/name] and a [name]Libby[/name] in the same family. (And then if you do find the pair confusing, you would have other nicknames like [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Bess[/name], [name]Birdie[/name], [name]Liza[/name], etc. or [name]Bertie[/name] or [name]Bell[/name] to use instead!)

If you named your daughter [name]Elizabeth[/name] and called her [name]Libby[/name], it’d work quite well. Otherwise, too confusing.

I think it’s okay. and btw, [name]Libby[/name]'s very cute.

I think it’s too close. To day in and day out “mishear” your name is frustrating. My daughter is [name]Clare[/name] and when my dad comes to visit who’s name is [name]Lawrence[/name] but goes by [name]Larry[/name] and informally my husband and mother call him Lar it is very confusing.

If your daughters’ names are [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name], nn’s [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Libby[/name], I like it! But if they are [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Libby[/name], then yes, that may be too close.

I would not have a problem with it. The names are pretty close but not confusing and if you love it then that is what really matters. If your daughters are [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] then there is really no issue at all to me.

Hmm, too close for me. And also too matchy, I just don’t like matchy sets. Plus, if there’s any chance you might have another child in future, their name would always seem the odd one out, unless you called them [name]Tabby[/name], [name]Bobbi[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] etc, in which case I think the whole set would sound ridiculously matchy. [name]Abby[/name], [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] (for example) sound very mismatched, [name]Abby[/name], [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Tabby[/name] sound awful! So no, either way, I wouldn’t do it sorry!

Like other posters have said though, if it’s [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Libby[/name], I think it may be doable. Though if that’s the case, I’d suggest just picking one of [name]Elizabeth[/name]'s numerous other nn’s.

I know how hard it can be to find a name you agree on but I’m sure if you keep looking you’ll find something else! And the Berries are always happy to make suggestions  What about [name]Olivia[/name] nn [name]Livy[/name] - it’s not my favourite since it’s the number 1 name here in the UK and I’m bored of it, but it’s a good name and at least [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Livy[/name] aren’t as matchy.

Good luck!

[name]Libby[/name] and [name]Abby[/name] are definitely not close at all. I’m [name]Bryan[/name], and I have siblings [name]Brianna[/name] and Brayton and we seem to deal with that just fine. Go for it!

If it is [name]Abigail[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] no problem! If it’s just [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Abby[/name] then there may be some confusion/closeness. But I don’t think it’s enough to not use the name! If you love a name use it!!!

I don’t think they sound alike. I know a girl with daughters [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name]. They go by [name]Lizzy[/name] and [name]Izzy[/name] THAT is too close

Too close. I think #ljandrl makes some very good points on this.

I feel for you though, DH & I were at a complete stalemate to find names we agreed on. We very reluctantly had to ditch [name]Holly[/name] from our tiny list of possibles for DD2 because DD1 has the nn [name]Lolly[/name]. It felt awful to lose one of our only options, but we persevered and got there in the end.

Good luck!

I think they’re too close. Sorry.

They would be just [name]Abby[/name] and [name]Libby[/name].
I’m not a fan of matchy ‘sibset’ names it just happens that we both really like [name]Libby[/name] and can’t agree on anything else.

I like the combo and don’t see them as too close. The beginning sounds are different - one starts with a vowel and the other with a consonant/different vowel. I had this same situation, but my 2nd dd ended up going by [name]Lizzie[/name] instead of [name]Libby[/name], and it just happened because of my older kids using that nn. Also, my older dd [name]Abby[/name] had a good friend named [name]Libby[/name] for a while and I never noticed that the names were too similar or confusing when they were together.

I do think they’re too similar for siblings because of the -bby endings. If they were [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Amity[/name], for example, it would be fine because even though both have the same endings, there are enough syllables to differentiate the two names.

I think they are too close, and agree that if you had a third child, their name might feel mismatched :frowning: Sorry!

I like that combo!

Sorry, but they are a little too close to me as well:(
