I think I broke a name rule!

We are expecting baby #3 and have 2 girls already.

We are struggling to think of another girls name. So far, we both like [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but that’s all!

[/name_f].
So I fear we broke a name rule there by giving our first daughter a common name and our second daughter a name that so far no one has heard of!

Does anyone have any suggestions on names that may fit between unique but not unheard of?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’d be mean to have 2 girls with common names and our middle daughter with a name she has to explain?

I don’t think it would be a problem. [name_f]Josana[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sound fine together, and lets say your first daughter has a name such as [name_f]Emily[/name_f]… [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Josana[/name_f], and [name_f]Elise[/name_f]…sounds good!

I can’t see any name rule broken here (which of course begs the question about the possible existence of name rules in the first place!)

For those who look for some coherence or complimentarity in their children’s names I think style and vibe is much more significant than popularity. [name_f]Josana[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sound like sisters to me, and it doesn’t seem relevant that one has a more unusual name.

[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Charis[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Maelys[/name_f]
[name_f]Ione[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Melia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]

My priority would be making sure that they otherwise match stylistically – similar backgrounds, similar spellings for similar sounds, etc. I think if the style fits, you could easily have a set of 3 that ranges from popular to relatively unknown, whereas names in the same popularity bracket could sound odd together (e.g. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u]).

I reckon [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Josana[/name_f] go together really really well! It’d help to know your other daughter’s name, but I can understand if that’s more info than you want to share.

Other names that could go with [name_f]Josana[/name_f]:

[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] / [name_f]Alisa[/name_f]

[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Elora[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Helena[/name_f]

[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] / [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] / [name_f]Mira[/name_f] / [name_f]Myra[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f] / [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] / [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] / [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Soraya[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Tyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Yvette[/name_f] / [name_f]Yvonne[/name_f] / [name_f]Ivette[/name_f] / [name_f]Evonne[/name_f]
[name_f]Josana[/name_f] & [name_f]Zara[/name_f]

Thank you all so much for your feedback!

I’ve never really thought of name rules but the more I have been researching names, the more [name_m]Ive[/name_m] worried about the sibling names not fitting.

I’m definitely overthinking it and have some other lovely suggestions now to put forward to hubby.

I think that you could sort of bridge the gap between the popularity of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Josana[/name_f] with your third daughter’s name! Something like [name_f]Elora[/name_f], which is fairly simple to pronounce and many people have heard of it, but it’s not top 100 or even top 500.

Others along the same line…
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

My only addition is to maybe think about having a non-E name so [name_f]Josana[/name_f] less prominent. (Actually think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Josana[/name_f] go very well but with [name_f]Emily[/name_f] in mix, it’s slighly imbalanced)*.

Maybe:

[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucette[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

*but if you go with (the very pretty) [name_f]Elise[/name_f], it’s actually more than OK!

I definitely think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a good middle ground for [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Josana[/name_f], although personally I think I wouldn’t pick another E name just so [name_f]Josana[/name_f] won’t be left out. Although if that doesn’t bother you I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] would be a really good and beautiful pick for your sibset.

some other ideas:
[name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Josana[/name_f] and

[name_f]Leona[/name_f]/ [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Teresa[/name_f]/ [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Wendy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Sandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]

Great point about the 2 E names! I will certainly run all of these beautiful name suggestions by hubby to see if we can agree on a few more names for our shortlist.
