Please tell me what you all think, and please be as honest as you want. I wanted something different but not difficult to pronounce. I want to get feedback, because I find that by getting berries opinions, I may be able to finally decide or change the name. Also, as for the mn, if you have other suggestions, I welcome those as well.
I appreciate all of your feedback.
Thank you berries!
I love [name]Alessandra[/name]! It is such a beautiful name.
As for the Mn I would go for something short like maybe [name]Rose[/name], [name]Lynn[/name], [name]Joy[/name], [name]Noelle[/name], [name]May[/name], etc.
I love [name]Alessandra[/name]! None of my other favorite names are Italian or Spanish, though, so I think it would feel a little out of place with my husband’s [name]German[/name] heritage and my Irish heritage (which is the only reason I wouldn’t use it for myself).
I’m not sure about Belize. It has a nice sound, but I’ve never really liked place names that are countries (like [name]Ireland[/name], for example, though I love [name]Erin[/name]). I prefer my place names to be more subtle. I think the names sound fine together, though.
[name]Alessandra[/name] is lovely! And the flow between these two names is good. Belize I can see working, it starts with [name]Bel[/name]-which is popular right now, and it rhymes with [name]Elise[/name] which is familiar.
BUT…I can imagine it being misheard as [name]Elise[/name] and misread as bel-eyes (belies, etc.) , which would be annoying. [name]Do[/name] you have a special connection to Belize? And whether you do or not, are you OK with always being asked that? Because I think people are going to assume it, maybe even (gulp) that it’s a conception placename : /, since it’s a tropical getaway place of sorts.
[name]Long[/name] and short, I think it works, but I think you’d do well to consider [name]Alessandra[/name] Belize, or [name]Elise[/name] [name]Alessandra[/name], or [name]Belinda[/name] [name]Alessandra[/name], etc.
Jesba - I don’t have a special connection to the name, I just love the way it looks and sounds; and I really love it paired with [name]Alessandra[/name]. I suppose I could consider using it in the mn spot. Although I’m not sure because [name]Alessandra[/name] may be on the rise here, and I don’t want child with such common name. But I also love [name]Alessandra[/name], that’s why I want to use, even if in mn spot. I grew up with not so common name and love it, and want the same for my child. [name]Do[/name] u think Belize is too much? Any other suggestions? as for [name]Elise[/name], there is already a family member and friends child with this name, so I wouldn’t use, plus, it’s not one of my faves. I appreciate any additional feedback. Thanks.
Kate86- thank u for your feedback. I don’t really like filler mns like [name]Rose[/name], [name]Lynn[/name], etc… I want to like both names as much. I want something different.
I don’t love Belize, but [name]Alessandra[/name] is beautiful. And I don’t think you have to worry about [name]Alessandra[/name] becoming super, super popular, at least not in the near future, so don’t let that stop you!
I dont know much about Belize! Tell me about it! [name]How[/name] do i pronounce it, where is it from etc
It definately looks really pretty written down
Belize is a pretty name, but may have some drawbacks. She will likely need to spell it out for everyone, and it will get mispronounced sometimes. For example, the use of Z for the S sound may cause confusion. I can see people pronouncing like “Beleez” and spelling it “Bellece,” “Belese,” etc.
I like [name]Alessandra[/name] more than Belize for a first name. Such a liquid, sultry version of [name]Alexandra[/name].
I don’t know much about Belize, but I had a client from Belize who told me a bit about her country. She had worked as a maid there, and lived at the edge of poverty (poverty being pretty widespread there.) She had moved to the US in part to get away from an abusive marriage. She said gender roles are more strict there, and domestic violence is pretty common. She also said that while the country has a lot of really special, beautiful plant and animal life, much of its ecosystem is being decimated. The neighboring countries have conserved their rainforest, while Belize has largely sold theirs off to loggers.
I’m sure there are many more facets to this country. That was just one perspective from one woman who had a sad life there. But that’s my association.
[name]Love[/name] it. Belize is different and will probably get called believe but that’s not so bad. alessanda is beyond lovely! [name]Alessandra[/name] Belize would get 2 enthusiastic thumbs up. Belize [name]Alessandra[/name] gets 1.5
To me, Belize combines the worst of both name worlds. It’s a very unusual name that people will have trouble understanding and pronouncing. But it also is close to the top girls’ name [name]Isabella[/name] and so I fear a little girl named Belize will both carry the burden of having to endlessly explain her name but end up de facto having a super popular name and will be called [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Bella[/name] like so so many other girls born in this time.
[name]Alessandra[/name] in a way has the same issue but in a much milder form, since [name]Alessandra[/name] itself is an established first name rather than a place name recobbled as first, and [name]Alexandra[/name] is not as trendy as the [name]Bella[/name] names.
Some people might see this issue as the BEST of both worlds – you get a highly unusual name that can easily be shortened to a very familiar nickname, so you can go both ways at different times of your life and according to temperament. And I suppose it can work that way.
I agree with @jesba! (Like so very often). @Wink, I can see your concern. However maybe this will help. My first name is [name]Alexandra[/name] and I was born in the early 1980s. The name exploded around the time I was born and when I went to school I had one other [name]Alexandra[/name], and [name]Aleksandra[/name], four Alexanders and one [name]Alexis[/name] in my class over the years. (I didn’t mention the 6 other kids that had [name]Alexander[/name]/a as a middle name). And I went to a private school that catered to foreigners - this clearly wasn’t a local trend. But here’s the great think about [name]Alexandra[/name]/[name]Alessandra[/name] there are literally a gazillion nn’s and spellings to choose from. Your kid might not be the only one in her class but she might be the only one with her nn -> for me that was just as good. Between: [name]Alex[/name], [name]Alessa[/name], [name]Ali[/name], Aliss (prn [name]Alice[/name]), [name]Alessandra[/name], [name]Sandra[/name], [name]Sandy[/name], [name]Andy[/name], [name]Sasha[/name], [name]Lexie[/name]/y/i, Lessa, and [name]Lacy[/name] (+ the other 5 I am not mentioning because they are more masculine) I wouldn’t worry about her name being too common. (PS: I moved to [name]Alexandria[/name], VA for a few months right out of college and it bothered me more that everyone assumed my name was [name]Alexandria[/name] instead of reading my CC that said [name]Alexandra[/name]. Probably didn’t help that I also lived on [name]Alexandria[/name] [name]Ave[/name]. :p)
If you like Belize I would go with it. Yes people might mis-read/prn it but it’s very easy to say “Actually it’s Belize, like [name]Elise[/name] with a B”. I think people will make that mistake once and then remember. You could spell it Belise though it looses some of it’s appeal to me. I don’t really like place names but I’d prefer Belize over [name]Ireland[/name] mostly because I don’t hear it as often (I grew up in Europe which probably has a lot to do with it.)
I like Belize. It’s different and pretty. [name]Alessandra[/name] is okay, but I feel it’s a bit much. I share your dislike of filler names, though, so I like your creativity with the mn spot.
I think it flows best as [name]Alessandra[/name] Belize, which is stunning [name]IMO[/name]. I agree with others that Belize might have pronunciation/ spelling issues. [name]Alessandra[/name] is gorgeous. It has a regal and exotic flair.
I think the name is absolutely beautiful! The name is different, but I don’t think it’s too different at all. But be careful because people may pronounce Belize incorrectly. Otherwise, the name is absolutely gorgeous! But, if you wanted a different middle name, I would recommend [name]Willow[/name], Harlowe/[name]Harlow[/name] (I think Belize [name]Harlow[/name] would be amazing!!), [name]Victoria[/name], or [name]Fiona[/name]. If you want any other mn’s, let me know! hope I helped you and I still loveee Belize [name]Alessandra[/name]!!
I’d rather have [name]Alessandra[/name] Belize. I think it would be very difficult to go through life being named after a tropical country that is difficult to spell/prounce and with which you have no connection whatsoever. I do admit the sound is pretty, but I’d rather see something like Belise or Belisa.
