I think I've narrowed down my list. Suggestions please :)

First off I have a very long Italian last name that starts with a C (sounds like an S) ends in an O and is 4 syllables long. I don’t mind posting it but haven’t seen to many others.
I have two daughters [name]Kira[/name] [name]Berlin[/name] & [name]Mia[/name] [name]Taylor[/name]. We are about 90% sure we’ll try for #3. This is my current very narrowed down list. If it’s a boy I told my husband he could choose the name. His top two boys names are [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name], which I also I like. I know they are VERY common but we tend to lean that way for boys names.

So…what are good middles for [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name] and which girls names sound good with [name]Kira[/name] and [name]Mia[/name]?

My “current” girls list -

[name]Alison[/name] (possible nn [name]Ali[/name])
[name]Adelyn[/name] (open to suggestions for alt. spellings)
[name]Olivia[/name] (nn [name]Ollie[/name])
[name]Sidney[/name]/[name]Cidney[/name]
[name]Zoey[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Charlyn[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name] or alt. spellings of)
[name]Ollie[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] (not my husbands favorite but I still like it)

Boys list -
[name]Michael[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name]

Thank you for your replies. I wish I had a thousand children to name.

[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Caitlin[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Paige[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Yvette[/name]
[name]Kira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Audra[/name]

[name]Alison[/name] No but I love [name]Alyssa[/name]
[name]Adelyn[/name] I prefer [name]Adeline[/name] but I suppose if you want a lyn pronounciation versus a lean one that will dictate the spelling.
[name]Olivia[/name] [name]Lovely[/name] nn [name]Liv[/name]
[name]Sidney[/name]/[name]Cidney[/name] Sorry to say this but it is only a boy’s name to me
[name]Zoey[/name] [name]Lovely[/name] spelt [name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Lovely[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] Very popular
[name]Charlyn[/name] Did you make this one up? If you want a feminine form of [name]Charles[/name] go for [name]Carolyn[/name] if you want a ‘lyn’ ending but I would suggest [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Ollie[/name] No
[name]Ivy[/name] [name]Don[/name]'t like this one. Clinging [name]Ivy[/name] is what it conjures up, someone who is weak and has to cling onto someone else

Boys list -
[name]Michael[/name] [name]Lovely[/name], my combos [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Michael[/name] or [name]Michael[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] Nice, [name]James[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] or [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Michael[/name]

My “current” girls list -

[name]Alison[/name] (possible nn [name]Ali[/name]) - to me, this is dated. I really love [name]Alice[/name].
[name]Adelyn[/name] (open to suggestions for alt. spellings) - [name]Adeline[/name] is the spelling I like best nn [name]Ada[/name] or [name]Addie[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name] (nn [name]Ollie[/name]) - this is so popular, but I love it anyway.
[name]Sidney[/name]/[name]Cidney[/name] - not my style
[name]Zoey[/name] - I like this spelled [name]Zoe[/name] ([name]Zoe[/name] is pronouced Zoh-ee)
[name]Evelyn[/name] - love a lot!
[name]Ruby[/name] - love
[name]Charlyn[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name] or alt. spellings of) - I prefer [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Ollie[/name] - great as a nn for [name]Olive[/name] or [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] (not my husbands favorite but I still like it) - very cute!

Boys list -

[name]Michael[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] [name]David[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] [name]James[/name] - I just love [name]James[/name] as a middle name
[name]Michael[/name] [name]Julian[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] [name]Paul[/name]

[name]Michael[/name] is so regal that it’s hard for me to think of names that go with it.

[name]Anthony[/name] [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] [name]Edwin[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] [name]Peter[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] [name]Philip[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] [name]Reed[/name]
[name]Anthony[/name] [name]Vincent[/name]

I do actually prefer the spelling [name]Zoe[/name] vs. [name]Zoey[/name] but wasn’t sure if it would be read as Z-oh. My great aunts mother was [name]Zoe[/name] and it was pronounced Z-oh : /
[name]Adelyn[/name] and [name]Charlyn[/name] - I’m actually not very found of “ine” or “ene” name endings. I found [name]Charlyn[/name] on this site as a variation of [name]Charlene[/name], didn’t make it up. I love the nn [name]Charlie[/name]/ey/i for a little girl but I don’t really care for [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Charlene[/name]/ine. I might have to give this one up.
[name]Olivia[/name] - It kills me that it’s so popular and for that reason alone it might fade from my list. I love this name for the possible [name]Ollie[/name] nn.
I also love [name]Alice[/name]!

I love [name]Lily[/name]! I like [name]Audrey[/name] better than [name]Audra[/name] (in love with nn [name]Audie[/name]). I know [name]Audrey[/name] is getting popular :frowning:

[name]Emi[/name] (Japanese) is another name I love that is short and sweet but the popularity “[name]Em[/name]-” names makes me hesitant.

[name]Jody[/name]/[name]Jodie[/name]/[name]Jodi[/name] is a name I’ve really been trying to sell to my husband. He’s not budging.

I love switching [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name] to [name]Michael[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Michael[/name] (I always want to add [name]Hall[/name] to the end). [name]James[/name] is great middle name. My sisters father (not mine) died and this was his first name. I think it’s an unsaid “hands off”.
[name]Robert[/name] and [name]Ralph[/name] are the grandfathers names and both have passed. I like a more unique middle if we are going to use such a common/traditional first for the boy.
Phew! I’m glad this site exists!

[name]Hi[/name] there! With the lovely, feminine, and exotic [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Kira[/name], I’d personally go with a similarly exotic (or at least slightly exotic) sounding name, such as:

[name]Ariana[/name]
[name]Adriana[/name]
[name]Bianca[/name]
[name]Evelina[/name]
[name]Eliana[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name] (pronounced [name]Jem[/name]-ma)
[name]Isla[/name] (eye-la)
[name]Juliana[/name]
[name]Liliana[/name]
[name]Lucia[/name] (nn [name]Lucy[/name])
[name]Luciana[/name]
[name]Simona[/name]
[name]Simone[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] (not so exotic, but I can see it with your girls’ names)
[name]Tessa[/name] (ditto)
[name]Viviana[/name]

From your list, I can best see [name]Olivia[/name] with [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Kira[/name], but I understand that its popularity bothers you. [name]Mia[/name] is pretty popular right now (and very pretty) at #14, and [name]Olivia[/name]'s only a tad more popular. If you really love it, I think it would be a shame to give it up.

Best wishes to you!

This is my revised girls list after making my husband give me more input.

These names get his total approval -

[name]Ali[/name]/[name]Ally[/name]/[name]Allie[/name]
[name]Chloe[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Emi[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]

These he likes but not as much as the above list -

[name]Flora[/name] (his grandmother’s name)
[name]Sidney[/name]/[name]Sydney[/name]
[name]Adelyn[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Alison[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]

With our last name (Celentano (Sell-in-tah-no) being so long I really feel like we need to keep the first name on the shorter side.

I’m still in love with unisex middle names. He likes [name]Ali[/name] [name]Lane[/name] (or a variation of this spelling).

He had a friend pass away recently and it would be nice to somehow incorporate his name with either the boys or the girls name. His friends name was [name]Jason[/name] (I know). [name]Sonja[/name] is a word scramble of [name]Jason[/name] but not sure if I can make it fit with any of the names that we like so far. Any ideas?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

A girl’s name that is like [name]Jason[/name]: [name]Jessamyn[/name]
A boy’s name like [name]Jason[/name]: [name]Justin[/name], but it is kind of dated, too. But I really love it!

[name]Ali[/name]/[name]Ally[/name]/[name]Allie[/name]: don’t think it works with your surname
[name]Chloe[/name]: very popular, and I don’t like the C’s together
[name]Daphne[/name]: nice
[name]Emi[/name]: again, nice
[name]Ruby[/name]: another good choice

[name]Flora[/name]: doesn’t flow with the other kids
[name]Sydney[/name]/[name]Sidney[/name]: not a fan of the alliteration w/ your last name
[name]Adelyn[/name]: mouthful w/ surname
[name]Olivia[/name]: very popular, not sure if that bothers you
[name]Alison[/name]: don’t like it with your surname or your other children.
[name]Evelyn[/name]: my favorite of your choices, especially with the cute nickname [name]Evie[/name]!!

About [name]Sonja[/name], I agree it doesn’t really work with your choices. What about using [name]Jay[/name] as a middle name to honor [name]Jason[/name]? [name]Jay[/name] is unisex as well, like you said.

My Vote: [name]Evelyn[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]) [name]Jay[/name] Celentano!!

(Whoops, I forgot to add boys’ names. Next time!)

[name]Michael[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name] are great boys’ names! I think you could go for [name]Michael[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] or [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Michael[/name] without any problem, but here are some other names you might consider :
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Japheth[/name] (nn [name]Japhy[/name])
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Lorcan[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name].
That’s just a few of my favourites …
What’s “I know” about [name]Jason[/name]? I think it could work as a mn. Or the J names I’ve suggested, especially [name]Jasper[/name], could probably be taken as honouring him.

[name]Ali[/name]/[name]Ally[/name]/[name]Allie[/name] - not as a full name. I’d steer clear of [name]Alice[/name], too, even though it is beautiful. I don’t think it goes well with your daughters’ names, and it is also very, very popular. There is actually a thread on here called ‘names with the nn [name]Ali[/name]’ which you could do a search for.
[name]Chloe[/name] - lovely, but more common than your daughters’ names.
[name]Daphne[/name] - I adore.
[name]Emi[/name] - not as a full name. [name]Emily[/name], [name]Emilia[/name], and [name]Emerald[/name] are all lovely, though (I think [name]Emerald[/name] goes especially well with your daughters’ names).
[name]Ruby[/name] - Goes well with your daughters’ names, and is pretty.
[name]Flora[/name] - absolutely beautiful, fits well with your surname, honours a family member, and goes well with your daughters’ names.
[name]Sidney[/name]/[name]Sydney[/name] - more unisex than your daughers’ names.
[name]Adelyn[/name] - I much prefer the [name]Adeline[/name] spelling, but that makes it much longer than your other daughters’ names.
[name]Olivia[/name] - very common, but pretty.
[name]Alison[/name] - I’m not a fan, but he likes the [name]Ali[/name] nn, and this is a good way to get to it.
[name]Evelyn[/name] - I love. I think the nn [name]Evie[/name] goes well with your other daughters’ names, too.

I’m not a fan of the name [name]Sonja[/name], but it is a good way to incorporate [name]Jason[/name] for a girl … perhaps use it as a mn? [name]Jasmine[/name] could also be used to honour [name]Jason[/name] for a girl, although it is significantly longer than your daughters’ names.

Good luck!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to quickly add that I second what twinkle has said about your girl’s list. The only one I personally really dislike is [name]Sidney[/name] (but then I am not a fan of unisex names as you are). I love [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name].
[name]Michael[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name] are both good, classic boy’s names.

So here is the very current list with some additions and some that have made it to the chopping block (for now).

[name]Both[/name] of our top favorites are -

[name]Lea[/name] - This is a new addition and all though it rhymes with [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Kira[/name] we both love it anyway. It currently sits at the top of the list. What do you think? Tacky? Cute? Who cares one day they’ll have they’re own separate lives? Let me know what you think.
[name]Ali[/name] - We just can’t let this one go.
[name]Ruby[/name] - It was tarnished for years for me but now the past is far away enough to finally enjoy this name for what it’s worth.
[name]Daphne[/name] - My girls think of Scooby Doo and Daft Punk, I think of Greek Mythology.
[name]Emi[/name] - Hanging in there. I love it because it’s Japanese and an alternative to [name]Emily[/name] ect.
[name]Olivia[/name] - We would nn her [name]Ollie[/name]. Hopefully the nn would give her individuality in a sea of [name]Olivia[/name]'s. The potential for other nn’s wouldn’t limit her if she hates [name]Ollie[/name].
[name]Evelyn[/name] - I heard this name 5 years ago on a kindergartner and fell in love with it. My husband thinks it’s okay but likes it much better than [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Lyric[/name], [name]Ginger[/name], [name]Josie[/name], [name]Paulina[/name]…and other names I’ve begged and pleaded for. [name]Love[/name] [name]Evie[/name] as a nn but we have niece named [name]Ava[/name]. I don’t want anyone to think I’m stealing her limelight.

Honestly picking boys names doesn’t worry me as much for the simple fact we’re not as picky and we both have the same taste when choosing them. [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Anthony[/name] are still the top choices with [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], and [name]Ezekiel[/name] waiting for their moment to shine.

Thanks for the help and letting me bounce these names around with you.

If you mean [name]Lea[/name] to sound as [name]Lee[/name] ah then I feel it is best to spell it as [name]Leah[/name].

If you want it to sound as [name]Lee[/name] then I think the easiest spelling is [name]Lee[/name], otherwise [name]Leigh[/name].

If you want [name]Leah[/name] as a nn then you may like [name]Natalia[/name], nn [name]Leah[/name] or nn [name]Tahlia[/name].

[name]Mia[/name], [name]Keira[/name] and [name]Leah[/name]
[name]Mia[/name], [name]Keira[/name] and [name]Tahlia[/name], my favourite.
[name]Mia[/name], [name]Keira[/name] and [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Mia[/name], [name]Keira[/name] and [name]Alyssa[/name] nn [name]Aly[/name] or [name]Lissa[/name]

[name]Lea[/name] as in [name]Lee[/name]-uh. This is the way actress [name]Lea[/name] [name]Thompson[/name] spells her name. I do like the spelling [name]Lia[/name] (which is it’s Italian variation, our last name is Italian) but it is too similar to [name]Mia[/name]. Also [name]Lea[/name] is Hawaiian and pronounced [name]Lay[/name]-uh. In Mythology she was the goddess of canoe makers. Personally we just like the way it sounds.

I do really like [name]Alyssa[/name]. I tried selling that name to him before we truly decided to try for another baby. My name is [name]Lisa[/name] and even though [name]Lea[/name] is very similar to my name, he thinks that [name]Alyssa[/name] is even more so. : / I do like the possibility of using [name]Aly[/name] as a nn for [name]Alyssa[/name]. I’ll put it out there again and see what kind of reaction I get from him this time. Wish me luck

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Lisa[/name]

I wish you all the luck in the world and I would love to hear what name you finally settle on.

I love [name]Alyssa[/name] and my daughter who is expecting likes it too. I love the idea of borrowing from your own name to get a theme for your children’s names eg [name]Anneliese[/name] is close to [name]Lisa[/name] and yet it is still its own name, as is [name]Alyssa[/name].

I agree it would look odd to have one daughter [name]Mia[/name] and one [name]Lia[/name].

I just love the sound of [name]Ali[/name] with your other children’s names - I think it fits in so nicely. I have a few friends who go by [name]Ali[/name], and although most of them are Alisons, there is one [name]Alice[/name] and one Alizanne. I love [name]Alyssa[/name] as well, but it is quite similar to [name]Lisa[/name]. Mind you, if you’re going to use [name]Ali[/name] anyway (and since Mom usually goes by Mom at home - or at least, mine did!) it might not matter much.
Have you thought about [name]Alessandra[/name]? Or would that be too much of an Italian mouthful?

Good luck!

  • My son is dating a beautiful girl named [name]Lea[/name]. I’ve never heard anyone get the pronunciation of her name wrong, and we have known her family for many years. [name]Lea[/name] is kind of matchy with [name]Mia[/name], but if you really like it, that’s okay.

[name]Ali[/name] - We just can’t let this one go. I love it as a nn for [name]Alice[/name] or [name]Alicia[/name]. I would spell it [name]Allie[/name] to differentiate it from [name]Mohammed[/name] [name]Ali[/name]. But that’s just me!

[name]Ruby[/name] - It was tarnished for years for me but now the past is far away enough to finally enjoy this name for what it’s worth. - Beautiful name, I love it!

[name]Daphne[/name] - One of my very favorites!
[name]Emi[/name] - not my style. [name]Love[/name] [name]Emmy[/name] as a nn for [name]Emilia[/name].
[name]Olivia[/name] - We would nn her [name]Ollie[/name]. Hopefully the nn would give her individuality in a sea of [name]Olivia[/name]'s. The potential for other nn’s wouldn’t limit her if she hates [name]Ollie[/name].

  • I love the name [name]Olivia[/name]! Call me crazy because it’s so popular. Hmmm…I think I already said that before. [name]Love[/name] [name]Ollie[/name], too!
    [name]Evelyn[/name] - love [name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]!

My faves on your list are [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], and [name]Olivia[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] as a middle name for [name]Evelyn[/name]! [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Lea[/name]. [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Leandra[/name] is even better. But Nameberry thinks [name]Leandra[/name] is dated. I love it as a middle name. [name]Love[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]. I know [name]Pearl[/name] is not on your list, but it’s so pretty!

  • love your boys’ names!
