I think we decided! Magnus. Help with middle?

I think we finally decided on [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] as a first name for our little one due in [name_u]November[/name_u]. It has been our front runner for awhile. Other top contenders were [name_m]Gregor[/name_m], [name_m]Ulric[/name_m], Corvus and [name_m]Tiberius[/name_m].

Unfortunately we have not been able to agree on a middle name. Hubby wants [name_m]Bear[/name_m] and I like [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] or [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]. Of course we are willing to consider other names as well. Our first son’s name is [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], and we are trying to stick with a name that is related to nature/animals for our second son. Some options we are considering are:

[name_m]Bear[/name_m]: Hubby loves it. I like it, but not enough to want to use it. We have a large bear problem in our community and they are constantly scavenging for food and dumpster diving. Not an ideal namesake for our child. Plus we already used [name_m]Bear[/name_m] as our dog’s middle name.

[name_m]Hawk[/name_m]: [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] has been a favorite combo of mine for years. Hubby is also on board, although he doesn’t love it. Downfall? A friend of ours recently pointed out that it sounds like Magnum Cock (sorry for the vulgarity). I can’t seem to unhear it now. What are your thoughts? Is it still usable?

[name_m]Griffin[/name_m]: This was my first choice for a first name, but I could not get hubby on board at all. He will consider it as a middle name however. The only downfall I can see is that it’s mythological roots breaks away from our nature/animal theme. That being said, it is still technically a beast and isn’t too much of a stretch.

Corvus: My husband loves this one. Unfortunately, I feel like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] Corvus sounds like he should be the villain in a comic book or something. I really kind of like it too though. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure if it is usable.

[name_m]Colt[/name_m]: My issue with [name_m]Colt[/name_m] is it’s association with the gun manufacturer. When I hear the name [name_m]Colt[/name_m], I think of a young horse and I worry that most people would actually think of firearms first. I don’t have an issue with guns or firearms, but its not the association I want. I love the sound of the name though.

Other options: [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], [name_m]Lynx[/name_m], [name_u]Falcon[/name_u], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]

Help!? Opinions are wanted.

My first reaction was to favor [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m], but after Magnum Cock, Idk.

I think [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] sounds nice, and is my second favorite on your list.

I think [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is my favorite but true about it straying from animal/nature names. Though if you were to have another child and use a nature name it would tie back around.

I also [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_u]River[/name_u]. I think it is very strong. My favorite if you want a nature name.

Next is [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f].

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] is absolutely perfect as [name_m]Luther[/name_m]'s little brother. It’s just the right balance of strength and softness that works so well in [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], so I would ignore the whole Magnum Cock thing. However, you have great other options! [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] and [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Colt[/name_m] are both very handsome options - I didn’t think of the gun at all until you mentioned it, and [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is definitely enough of an ‘animal inspired’ name to match with [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].

Other options for animal middles:

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_u]Robin[/name_u] - the bird connection is definitely there, but subtly so, just like with [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] is great. I don’t get Magnum Cock at all, even after reading it out loud. I mean, who even says magnum cock? Those aren’t two words commonly used together. (Although, Magnum ice cream still sounds weird to me, I’ll admit) If anything, I think [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] is a little obviously “Great [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]” to me. But, that’s personal. A friend just named her child [name_m]Maximus[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m] and I can’t get over how cheesy that sounds. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] is way less cheesy to me.

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] is also great.

Cadno means [name_m]Fox[/name_m] in Welsh, perhaps that’s a better association than [name_m]Bear[/name_m]?

After thinking about it a bit more, I feel that something like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] would pair amazingly with [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m], but it might not be ‘animal name’ enough for you.

Also think the obvious bear names sound a bit descriptive, like the name is literally big bear? I’m not sure how many people would get that association though

Super close to [name_m]Colt[/name_m], starts with an H like [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] and has a nature meaning - “son of the unspoiled forests”

For the record I think of the horse when I hear [name_m]Colt[/name_m], I didn’t think of cock when I said [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] and I totally have a dirty mind (lol) and I don’t love [name_m]Bear[/name_m] with it.

I love so many of these options. [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] is just a great first name with which to pair middles. My favorite is [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_m]Lion[/name_m]. Mostly because it makes me think of the Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]. Lions are just pretty awesome and have a majestic feel about them. I don’t really like [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_u]Lionel[/name_u], though, because it doesn’t sound quite nature enough. I don’t think you should one-step remove yourself from the animal, since [name_m]Luther[/name_m] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is just straight up an animal name.

My other favorite is [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] (that is gorgeous).
