I have posted several times here for a girls name. My husband and I have “settled” on several names, but inevitably, we end up deciding it isn’t right. Finally yesterday I think we nailed down what it is we are looking for. A name that has both a traditional, feminine side AND a quirky side. My boys are [name]Cooper[/name] [name]Elliott[/name] and [name]Jackson[/name] [name]Lewis[/name].
[name]One[/name] example of a name that fits both would be [name]Charlotte[/name] (nn [name]Charlie[/name])
Might not even be your style but the first name I thought of was a personal favourite of mine [name]Lenore[/name] nn [name]Leni[/name] /[name]Nora[/name]
I do like [name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] or even [name]Lottie[/name], that’s a less common nickname to [name]Charlotte[/name]
Oh what about [name]Harriet[/name] nn [name]Harri[/name] or [name]Retta[/name]? Not sure how this goes on the ‘quirky’ side but [name]Katherine[/name] nn [name]Kitty[/name] could work, the usually nn would be [name]Kate[/name] or Kath so [name]Kitty[/name] would be a nice alternative
Any of these what you’re looking for? They’re all I’ve got off the top of my head but I’ll probably have it running around in the back of my head and might come back if I think of more
There are three names we have decided on and then questioned:
[name]Isabella[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] (I feel like [name]Isabella[/name] is just too popular, however, we have been revisiting it with the nn [name]Izzy[/name])
[name]Quincy[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (A VERY sentimental name for us, but have questioned if [name]Quincy[/name] is too quirky)
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Ellen[/name] (Not sold on the mn, and questioning if [name]Grace[/name] is too traditional)
We talked about:
[name]Allison[/name] (could not find a mn we liked with it)
[name]Charlotte[/name] (just didn’t seem to fit, not sure I like it with the sib set)
[name]Georgia[/name] (we couldn’t agree on nn)
Elliette (I [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name] this name - but [name]Elliott[/name] is my sons middle name so no go)
[name]Josephine[/name] (just didn’t seem to fit)
[name]Madeline[/name] (I like Mad -e- [name]LINE[/name] and felt like most would say Mad-e-[name]LYN[/name])
[name]Oliva[/name] (My hubs can’t get past that bratty pig)
[name]Penelope[/name] (don’t like [name]Penny[/name])
[name]Sophia[/name] (same feelings as [name]Isabella[/name])
Hubby didn’t like [name]Lenore[/name]
I like [name]Katherine[/name], but we would do [name]Kat[/name].
Not sure about [name]Henrietta[/name]. I will have to think on that one.
I like [name]Quincy[/name] [name]Grace[/name], it’s nms but it’s not too quirky at all [name]IMO[/name]. You could always spell [name]Madeline[/name] as [name]Madeleine[/name] which ironically sounds more like “lyn or len” in French but it seems most people say “[name]LINE[/name]” here which I think is fine. Would you consider Elisabette or [name]Elisabetta[/name] over [name]Isabella[/name]? I know it might be a bit much or too girly for some but Elizabette [name]Quinn[/name] or even just [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] makes a good alternative [name]IMO[/name].
I wouldn’t let nn’s stop me from using a name, I think they come naturally but I like [name]Georgia[/name] nn [name]GiGi[/name] if you’re still interested in the name.
I’ll try to come up with list! Typing on phone please excuse errors and autocorrections
Others you might like:
[name]Antonia[/name] – [name]Toni[/name]
[name]Mariah[/name]/[name]Moriah[/name] – [name]Rye[/name]
[name]Esther[/name] - [name]Tess[/name]
[name]Lorelei[/name], [name]Aurora[/name] – [name]Rory[/name]
Also, I know it’s not a tradition name, but [name]October[/name] nn [name]Toby[/name] is another name that is “split-personality.”
You have a lot of nice ones! My only suggestion, is a long the lines of [name]Isabella[/name]…
[name]Susannah[/name] I think would fit perfectly and you could use the nn [name]Sunny[/name]. To me it is that elegance, tradition with a splash of quirky
I love a boyish nickname with an elaborate, feminine full name on a little girl so I like [name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] and love [name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Joey[/name]!
More I think are “split personality” would be [name]Matilda[/name] (nn [name]Tillie[/name]), [name]Tabitha[/name] (nn [name]Tibby[/name]), and [name]Penelope[/name] (nn [name]Pippa[/name]).
Although it’s getting very popular now, one of my all time favorite names is any spelling of [name]Isabel[/name] nn [name]Izzie[/name]!
Making it [name]Isabel[/name] instead of [name]Isabella[/name] avoids the trendy nickname [name]Bella[/name] for the quirkier [name]Izzie[/name] (or [name]Izzy[/name], but I like [name]Izzie[/name].)
