I think we've settled on Florian... It's not too out there is it?

I’m honestly nervous to tell people the name because it’s pretty uncommon here and I know what my in laws are going to say. It’s a great name though right? Someone talk me down :joy: We have tentatively decided on [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m]…

its very handsome, i love [name_u]Florian[/name_u] :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: and i would advise against telling family about the name until he’s born, if anyone has strong opinions it might ruin the name for you !

I dig it! I think you will find it seems less “out there” as time goes on, but hopefully should still stay somewhat unique. Best wishes!

Florian is a fantastic name and not one I consider remotely out there! I knew a [name_u]Florian[/name_u] & he wore it very well

Wow! I absolutely love it  I’d have loved [name_u]Florian[/name_u] for a middle for ours but sadly my husband has a bad personal association. It’s gorgeous and elegant and strong. [name_m]John[/name_m] is a wonderful grounding middle name too, to balance out the more unusual first.

I love how it fits with your boys too — definitely not an expected addition, but with the same rich, outdoorsy vibe.

Yes!! It’s a wonderful name! I genuinely love it, and I think it’s just the right amount of out-there – different and unexpected, but very handsome and cool.

I really love it and I think you’ve chosen a great name which is refreshing from all the Olivers, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]’s and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]’s

First of all, [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] is beautiful.

Secondly, you don’t have to tell anyone your name choice ahead of time, even family. It’s not their choice! Some people are unnecessarily critical even when it’s hurtful and un-constructive; you don’t have to submit yourself to doubt and worry because of other people’s opinions.

Thirdly, I don’t think it’s too out there at all! It feels like a sweet spot choice, and [name_m]John[/name_m] is lovely and grounding.

Ooh, I love [name_u]Florian[/name_u]! It’s gentle yet strong and full of personality, and it has a nice subtle nature-y feel. I think it hits the sweet spot of very uncommon but very wearable, and [name_m]John[/name_m] is the perfect grounding middle if you’re worried about it being a more unexpected choice. I would be thrilled to meet a little [name_u]Florian[/name_u] :green_heart:

I like [name_u]Florian[/name_u]! I don’t think it’s too out there. It’s spelled phonetically and it’s similar to the name [name_u]Dorian[/name_u]. Personally, I would prefer [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]John[/name_m] is quite overused and it ends in N just like [name_u]Florian[/name_u].

I absolutely love [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m]!! It’s not too out there at all. I think the middle name flows with it perfectly as well.

I think it’s very handsome. If you love it, stick with it!

I felt the same way when I named my 5 year old [name_f]Maren[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] family probably thought I was crazy because we all have such traditional names. When [name_f]Maren[/name_f] [name_m]Morris[/name_m] became popular shortly after, that helped people to accept the name. It also helped when I explained it as “[name_f]Karen[/name_f] with an M.” It made it feel more familiar, I think. Maybe you can prep people with “it’s like [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] but with an Fl” or is there some sort of “pop culture” reference you can point to?

It would be very uncommon where I live too haha! It is a nice name. Are you worried about it sounding too uncommon? [name_u]Florian[/name_u] has a bit of a sci-fi hero vibe for me, I have no idea why. Maybe you would feel more confident with a few nickname ideas?

I really love -ian names, as well as almost every [name_m]John[/name_m] variation so I am biased here… but [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] is beyond handsome!

Florian is quirky, handsome and with a lovely, charming novelesque feeling. It feels familiar but fresh. [name_m]John[/name_m], on the other hand, is strong and widely known. I think both names complete each other perfectly, and the whole combo has the perfect balance.

Sadly, people tend to give their opinion even when no one asks for it but if you love this name, go for it, it’s such a gem!
