[name_u]Florian[/name_u] is nice! It is a bit out there though. Like others have said, maybe wait to tell everyone until after he’s born. Have you considered [name_m]Finnian[/name_m]? It has a similar sound, but feels more accessible and down to earth!
I don’t find it too out there at all! I think it’s romantic but not impractical, a good balance!
It’s definitely on the feminine side but a middle name like [name_m]John[/name_m] balances it out in my opinion.
I absolutely love [name_u]Florian[/name_u]! I don’t find it out there at all, just uncommon.
I think [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is a great name and not too out there at all! I’m American, but live in Central Europe. I’ve met several adult Florians and it wears very well. It has a sophisticated and confident air about it. I love [name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] together.
I’m so happy to hear that you have decided to go ahead with [name_u]Florian[/name_u]! I love it. It’s truly a wonderful name, so princely, regal, elegant and adventurous. I wouldn’t say it’s too “out there” though it is uncommon - but it’s helped along by being easy to spell and pronounce. I say stick to your guns - your in-laws can get over themselves! They will get used to it once they meet baby boy in person. I’d echo everyone else’s advice of not bringing it up with anyone until he’s born.
I disagree
Hmm, I don’t agree with this, and I think it’s actually a harmful stereotype. [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is a perfectly masculine name, just because it has a soft sound or means “flowers” doesn’t mean it’s “feminine”. Who says flowers have a gender? Besides, we push the boundaries with ‘masculine’ names for girls all the time, yet one hint of softness or grace in a boys’ name and people react negatively. I just find this gender stereotype frustrating - men can be soft and graceful too. I think [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is perfectly masculine in it’s own way!
I agree…to me it almost sounds like it could be the male counterpart to Florence?
Florian makes me think of Caspian/Dorian/Finnian. Them type of names. And same vibe as Laurence, Elias. The soft but strong boys names that I love.
I love it. [name_m]Don[/name_m]’t tell anyone! I wanted to name my oldest [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and made the mistake of telling people – this was when [name_f]Flora[/name_f] was VERY unusual – and let myself get talked out of it. The only names everyone can agree on are very straightforward familiar names, in the case of parents especially the names of beloved family members. You won’t hear many objections to [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_u]James[/name_u].
Thank you for the input and support everyone! I feel pretty good about using this name and just keeping it under wraps until he’s born there is no arguing it!
I love it!!! And I think it goes great with your older boys names
Ok I did not read the comments before commenting…that is scary haha
Florian [name_m]John[/name_m] is really gorgeous!
Florian [name_m]John[/name_m] is very handsome. I met one [name_u]Florian[/name_u] about 10 years ago. He was such a sweet kid.
