I thought we were done
We have a
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]
We don’t know the sex but what should number 4 be?
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] make a charming sibset. All three names are what I think of as very formal, mature, ancient, and almost regal names, but the “ie” nicknames are spunky and playful. I think you should stick to this pattern, at least for a girl. My suggestions (some repeats):
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ([name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], etc.), [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] ([name_f]Lottie[/name_f]) and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ([name_f]Maisie[/name_f]) seem a little too familiar compared to your other girls, but could work
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_u]Nori[/name_u] (?)) also fits the pattern, but again perhaps a little too familiar and I, for one, think we have enough little Ellies running around for a while
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ([name_u]Penny[/name_u]) is the first thing to come to mind, and one of my favorites
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] seems perfect, but the one syllable [name_f]Bea[/name_f] doesn’t quite match your other girls
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] ([name_u]Corrie[/name_u]) is another of my favorites, though ‘[name_u]Corrie[/name_u]’ might seem a little unisex
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] ([name_f]Gennie[/name_f], [name_f]Immy[/name_f]) I like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], but the [name_f]Gennie[/name_f] nickname would lead to spelling issues ([name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]) and [name_f]Immy[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] ([name_f]Gwennie[/name_f]) another of my favorites
[name_f]Letitia[/name_f] ([name_f]Lettie[/name_f]) I have a cousin [name_f]Letitia[/name_f] who goes by Leatie ([name_u]LEE[/name_u]-tee)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is nice, but I hate [name_u]Daffy[/name_u] as a nickname
Similarly [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] works, but I’m not fond of [name_f]Cece[/name_f]
And last for the girls, I’m not one to reach for a nickname first, usually but I think [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] would be adorable with her sisters. I don’t know what it’s derived from–I’ve heard [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]—but I know what I would do if I were in your shoes. First Lady Lady [name_u]Bird[/name_u] [name_m]Johnson[/name_m]'s given name was [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], which seems perfect to me–[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. This would be my first choice.
For a boy, I think you have more leeway–no absolute need for the ‘-y’ ending on a nickname, but I’d look for a similarly ancient, mature name that lends itself to a nickname, but one that is just a little off the beaten path. That said, I always have a much more difficult time with boy names–mature, established names tend to sound either too familiar or too pretentious to me. But what about:
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m], either as a nickname, or a full name
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Hal[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] (I think it’s time for [name_m]Rob[/name_m]/[name_u]Robbie[/name_u] to be revived)
This was an amazing response and so thought out. Your suggestions were perfect. I love [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] but recently had a friend use it. I agree boys names can break our mold but if it’s another girl then we need to follow suit.
I’ve thought of [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] nn [name_u]Georgie[/name_u]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] nn [name_f]Rorie[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ginnie[/name_f]
And for a boy right now I like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
