I’ve gone boring 😬

I used to only like exciting names, but I’ve realized that classic names really tend to be the least controversial, and therefore, least anxiety-stoking for me…

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite girl names right now are:

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] (I’ve found this fetching lately)
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (see what I did there??)

I’ve come to accept that I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] more than the “harlot” jab might sting.

Boys:
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]Blake[/name_u]

Spirited, literary/vintage, and elegant would be the perfect mix of characteristics for a name if you have any suggestions, and if that’s not too much to ask :joy: Also, I love your opinions!!

Alexander [name_u]Blake[/name_u] is so handsome, and I really love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] from your girls’ list! I don’t find either of those remotely boring – the middle names certainly add a dash of unexpectedness!

Spirited, literary, vintage, elegant… hmmm

I feel like the middle spot is always a good place to get creative. I would have went with much more adventurous middles if we weren’t using honor names. I kind of still wish we would have added a second middle because of that.

I used to be a much more adventurous namer too but I couldn’t get some of the names I liked past my DH so I had to compromise.
And thinking about naming a real little human did make me question some of my more unusual choices even though I wanted unique names.

Honestly, once you actually use a name on your child it can never be “boring” though because it’s part of who they are.

Sabrina [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] are super cute!

Thank you, [name_f]Katinka[/name_f] — I put a lot of thought into names, so I appreciate your charitable perspective!!

My favorite girls’ names from your list are [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

And the boys’ list is lovely as well! [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], and [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] are gorgeous!

Oh, thank you! I am quite enamored with [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] & [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] as well, but it does feel like such a huge responsibility to name a child. I have an uncommon name and have learned to find the inherent value in classic names (unfortunately by recognizing the tough social world we live in).

[name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are beautiful! I don’t think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and especially [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are used very often, so I wouldn’t worry about them being “boring”.

[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is great, and you have so many nn options that can spice it up!

Hi there.

Nah, they’re not too boring!

Here are my thoughts on the list:

Charlotte [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]-Okay, it’s kind of boring. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is a nice smart classic. It’s just awfully over done. And [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is pretty, but they’re both such popular names paired together that it’s not super exciting.

Lily [name_f]Jane[/name_f]-So sweet. I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s somewhat popular, but it’s hard to say w/out smiling. Such beautiful imagery too. And I like it paired w/the simple classic [name_f]Jane[/name_f].

Sabrina [name_u]Wren[/name_u]-[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] is fun. A little less expected than some of the others. It’s a little sassy & smart. Simple yet not too terribly popular. I don’t much care for [name_u]Wren[/name_u], but this isn’t a bad combo.

Georgia [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]-I like both of these names, but it’s a little rhyme-y. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] isn’t that boring. It is spirited. Kind of has a cool Southern flair. The nns [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] are both spunky & adorable.

Josephine [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]-I love this! [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is just smart, elegant, but also fun loving & spunky. And [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is just totally spirited & vintage. Feminine yet not frilly. Great combo.

Alexander [name_u]Blake[/name_u]-I’m not usually a fan of [name_u]Blake[/name_u], but.I kind of like it as a mn here. It sounds distinguished. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is a handsome classic. [name_u]Alex[/name_u] is a bit over done though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the nn [name_m]Dex[/name_m]? Or [name_m]Ace[/name_m]?

Hope this helps.

Thank you! I always love reading your thoughtful comments :sparkling_heart:

I feel like a lot of my more interesting names have been taken like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f], so [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] felt like a similar style. It is sooo popular, though. I just love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]’s [name_m]Webb[/name_m], but it’s weird because I always considered [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] in P&P to be a homely character, so I might just be under the “spell“ of current name trends that will define this generation.

Thanks again, [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]!!

Ooh, [name_m]Ace[/name_m] is a perfect nickname! Sorry, I just saw your question!! That is so, so lovely!

I find myself switching on this topic all the time. Especially now that I’m home with more time to think.

I don’t think anyone can go wrong with any T100 name, because there will be thousands of others in the country with that name. It’ll be a normal name for that generation. And a safe name could always be paired with an off-beat nickname or middle name.

I also think there is something for the reverse. Something that goes against that grain, but either with a nickname that’s more common or a safe middle name.

There are very few people I have met who actively dislike their names. Anyone that does goes by a middle name instead. I think giving the option to blend or not is important because you don’t know how shy or eccentric another person will be.

([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is really growing on me too!)

I can really identify with this sentiment. The top 100 has vastly improved over the last couple of years. Two of my favourite names are top 50 and I’ve always been outside the top 1000 in the past.

Your choices are all lovely! I think [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is the best of them.
