I Want To Like My Husbands Name

My husband and I are expecting our second daughter in February. Our first is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. However we cannot agree on a name.

My first choice is [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], which also happens to be a family name on his side but he claims to not like it. Up to now (and for our first child) he has refused to give any name options just criticize mine.

Last night however he said he like [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. I have always liked that name generally but never really thought about actually using it and don’t have any combos. But because my husband has actually come forward in favor of [name_f]Elise[/name_f] which he has never done before I am trying to get on board.

Problems: 1. My husband has a niece (first cousin to our future daughter) named [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]. Is [name_f]Elise[/name_f] too close? Would you as a parent be upset if two female cousins were named so similarly?

  1. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] feels very “safe” and “expected” that I may feel too boring if I use it.

  2. Middle name options. Other names that i have liked in the past are: [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Camille[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. Can you make a good combo with these names OR suggest some better ones.

Thanks in advance.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Elysian? It’s where the name [name_f]Elise[/name_f]/[name_f]Elyse[/name_f] comes from and it’s a very soft sound. The Elysian Fields is a beautiful image as well. You could use [name_f]Elise[/name_f] for a nn.

I like [name_f]Elise[/name_f], it doesn’t sound too safe or expected to me. I think it sounds fresh and feminine. Lots of good nickname possibilities, too. Although [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] sound vaguely similar, they seem like different name styles.

As for middle name options, I think that a longer middle name might sound nice with [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] are my favourites from your list, but what about:

  • [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherina[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

That being said, it’s sad that you’re not “in love” with the name [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but instead just trying to get on board with your husband’s choice. :frowning: Surely you could continue to search for a name that you both love?

  1. Close, yes. But maybe you can solve the “problem” by giving nickname that sounds more different or discuss it with [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]'s parents first. Btw, how old is [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]?
  2. Definitely not boring, imo.
  3. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] sounds lovely, so does [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I’ll avoid names those are “heavy” on L, like [name_f]Camille[/name_f], [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], or [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

Suggestion:
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f].

I love the name [name_f]Elise[/name_f] actually, and I don’t think it sounds too close to [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] at all. I think it sounds light and sweet, but still substantial at the same time.

With a name that abruptly finishes with the emphasis on the second syllable (ee[name_f]LISE[/name_f]), I think you need longer 3 syllable middle name that has the emphasis on the first or second syllable, and preferably begins with a vowel.

I like the suggestions of [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosemarie[/name_f]

Yes, [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] are close, but not too close. I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] are just fine for cousins. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is an absolutely gorgeous sib set! I don’t find her too safe and expected. I find her classic and elegant, just like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is. If you want to spice [name_f]Elise[/name_f] up though I suggest [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. As far as combos go I second [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and suggest
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Estella[/name_f] (I think this flows better than just [name_f]Stella[/name_f])
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
I really want to like [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] but it just doesn’t flow right, maybe [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] instead?

I really love [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! I also like [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], but [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is sweeter. I don’t find it safe or expected at all. I have never met an [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about:

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Corinna[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]

[name_f]Annalise[/name_f] might be a good compromise. I’ve always like that name and there are many nick name options.

I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a better sister to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] than [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. I like that they have different ending sounds and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] sounds more modern where as [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] is a bit dated. I adore [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] by the way.

I love the suggestion of [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] for you. I think that’s be wonderful with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. Good luck with your search!

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is really pretty and will sound great next to big sister [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! I think some great middle name suggestions are:

If you wanted to go with the double e,

  • [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Emily[/name_f]
  • [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
  • [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]

Otherwise:
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Camielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

I actually strongly prefer [name_f]Elise[/name_f] to [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]. [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] to me sounds a little boring, while [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a bit punchier.

E names I actually like used together.
What about [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]? [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Elora[/name_f]? [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Ebony[/name_f]? [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]?

Or if thats not your style, [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f]? [name_f]Margurite[/name_f]? [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]? [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?

I agree with you about the “safeness” of [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. I personally think it is a little boring. But I also know an [name_f]Elise[/name_f] who is super cool and pretty and so fun to be around, so that does prove the adage that a person makes a name unique, not the other way around.

I love [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I think it goes great with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] too. [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] has so many nn options (I actually started a thread about the nn’s for [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] because I was trying to find one that would get my husband on board with the name, but that’s another story…)

I also like [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] because I think it is in line with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] as far as style goes.

[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] is cute, as well as [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] (kinda played around with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] that you had listed).

Oh and for the record, I don’t think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] are too close to be cousins.

Best of luck!

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] is great and I don’t think it’s too close to [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f]. It’s also great with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I think the names have a lot of similarities, classic but not the most expected/royal classics, very feminine & sophisticated.

[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] is my favorite. It sounds most complete & flows best. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] feels abrupt, [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is too redundant, I would avoid anything in the middle that shares a lot of letters or sounds with [name_f]Elise[/name_f].

I love the name [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! I definitely don’t think [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] are too close. And as far as being safe, I actually think [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] is safer sounding than [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. But maybe that is just me. The way I see it is if this is the first name he has actually brought up then he must really like it and it would probably mean a lot to him if you used it. Especially since it sounds like you probably names baby #1 alone. As for middles, I second the previous suggestion of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]! [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] is really nice, but I am not a fan of [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
