Ick! Trying to find a new favourite!

Hey again!

I’ve decided it is officially time to replace my long time favourite - [name]Violet[/name]. Though I still love the name and it will forever be on my list, it is becoming more and more popular, and I could never deal with having a kid who has to be [name]Violet[/name] C. to distinguish herself from the two other Violets in her class! (Though I’m nowhere near close to kids!)

Anyways, I’ve been searching and searching, and compiled a list of 52 names that have possibility. Of course I won’t share them all with you now, but I’ll list some of the top names right now. I would love your opinions and advice.

[name]Viveca[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Loa[/name]
[name]Karissa[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Tillie[/name] or [name]Millie[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Araminta[/name]
[name]Phaedra[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Reece[/name]

Some others, just food for thought, not as high on the list…

[name]Scarlett[/name]
Aisone - ay-eye-zun-ee
[name]Lola[/name]/[name]Lula[/name]/[name]Lulu[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Talullah[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]

I think I feel like some of the names on the first list just aren’t solid enough, like [name]Millie[/name], [name]Tillie[/name], [name]Maisie[/name] or [name]Lucy[/name]. They seem more fun than strong. Of course you don’t have to give a single opinion for each name, because I know how dreadful that can be, but any opinions, ideas, suggestions or advice is welcome for sure!

Thanks in advance,
Bounce

It’s so sad when everyone all the sudden decides to have good taste and make your favorite name popular. [name]Violet[/name] is so cute.

But now your children will likely have a friend named [name]Violet[/name]. And their names will probably look so cute together.

I think [name]Juniper[/name] is an excellent choice! It’s in the same vein as [name]Violet[/name] (nature inspired and classic sounding) but I dont see it being wildly popular. I’ve only met one [name]Juniper[/name] (an adult) she was lovely and the name ages well.

First of all, [name]Freya[/name]'s my name, and I love it. <3 I think it works well for any age. I also really like [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]!

Thanks for the advice everyone! So far I’m not completely decided and I’m going to keep doing some research!

[name]Lucy[/name]–I like this, but I think [name]Lucy[/name] may be more popular than [name]Violet[/name]!
[name]Quinn[/name]–love this
[name]Reece[/name]–like this–great with [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]

**[name]How[/name] about using [name]Violet[/name] as a middle name?

Funny. I was just coming on here for help on girl names. It’s down to [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name]. I wondered if [name]Violet[/name] was becoming super popular. Guess that answers my question!

My favorites are [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Freya[/name], [name]Araminta[/name] (love nn [name]Minty[/name]), [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Talullah[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name]. Instead of [name]Lola[/name]/[name]Lula[/name]/[name]Lulu[/name], I love the fun [name]Lilou[/name] or the more serious [name]Louisa[/name], both with the nickname [name]Lulu[/name]. [name]Juniper[/name] is also cute but I have a hard time seeing it on an adult, although [name]Junie[/name]/[name]June[/name]-bug are adorable nns! As for full names for [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Tillie[/name]/[name]Millie[/name] and [name]Maisie[/name], I compiled a short list.

[name]Lucy[/name]: [name]Lucia[/name], [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Luciana[/name], [name]Lucille[/name], Lulette (also nn for [name]Lulu[/name] or [name]Lux[/name], which you may like.) I think [name]Lucy[/name] is substantial enough without a longer name backing it up: it’s been established as a first name, like [name]Kate[/name].

[name]Maisie[/name]: [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Mairead[/name] (pronounced [name]Mare[/name]-id, Irish form of [name]Margaret[/name]) [name]Marguerite[/name] and pretty much all other [name]Margaret[/name] variations.

[name]Millie[/name]: [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Melinda[/name], [name]Melina[/name], Melinsande

[name]Tillie[/name]: [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Talullah[/name] (can’t think of many!)

[name]Poppy[/name]: [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Kalliope[/name]- they seem the most obvious ones: all others are too much of a stretch.

As for names I’m not a big fan of, [name]Viveca[/name] reminds me of [name]Veruca[/name], as in the spoiled girl in [name]Charlie[/name] and the Chocolate Factory. Aisone would just be too hard to pronounce and if the popularity of [name]Violet[/name] bothers you, than [name]Sophie[/name] is far more popular as a nn for [name]Sophia[/name] and on its own. I’m also not a fan of unisex names like [name]Quinn[/name] and [name]Reece[/name], but that’s just my own personal opinion.

Good luck narrowing down your 52 names!

Thaank you everyone for such great opinions! I think I have eliminated [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Tillie[/name]. I also can never see myself using [name]Talullah[/name], though it is really sweet. Also like some people have mentioned, many of those names are more popular than [name]Violet[/name]. I wish I could say more, but I’ve been home sick and surprisingly I’m not in much of a naming mood. Thanks everyone!

PS Sorry I always post forums like this, its just my favourites change a lot and I love the advice everyone gives!

Okay, so, home sick again today! I’ve had some time to think about the names… As of now I’m loving [name]Freya[/name]. Particularly [name]Freya[/name] [name]Isobel[/name]. Since [name]Freya[/name] is international and unique (not in top 1000), I think as a sibling she definitely needs something similar! I was thinking…

[name]Freya[/name] + [name]Karissa[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] + [name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] + [name]Loa[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] + [name]Hazel[/name]

I’m just not really loving any right now. I suppose [name]Karissa[/name] might be a goo option because it honours my cousin [name]Clarissa[/name]. [name]Loa[/name] is also nice because my mom loves the song [name]Lola[/name]. I know the [name]Lola[/name] in the song isn’t exactly an ideal role model, but [name]Loa[/name] is a diferent name altogether, yet still makes me think of mom. [name]Juniper[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] really don’t have meaning, but they are nice! I really like all of the names, actually.

Another problem I’m having is that I like some more popular names too like [name]Sophie[/name]. (Funny, as soon as I typed that, [name]Cory[/name] in the House came on, talking to [name]Sophie[/name]!)

Anyways, I think the four listed above are the ones it is coming down to. I guess I would like [name]Freya[/name] and [name]Isobel[/name], but I don’t want to be part of the whole Is-trend. [name]Even[/name] though [name]Isobel[/name] isn’t even on the top 1000, it still has the same beggining as the number 1 [name]Isabella[/name].

Thanks!

I think all of the names you have listed are beautiful, but what about thinking of alternatives that are similar to [name]Violet[/name]?

For example, there’s [name]Viola[/name], which is has a lovely classical feel to it - I’ve also seen the name Violca listed once, which I thought was quite pretty!

Or [name]Violette[/name] (vee-oh-[name]LAY[/name]), the French translation for [name]Violet[/name], maybe?

I don’t know how well these would work where you live - I live in [name]Ireland[/name], where [name]Violet[/name] is actually still fairly uncommon, so I don’t know how many [name]Violet[/name] alternatives have been spawned elsewhere.

My favourite of the names close to [name]Violet[/name] would probably be [name]Violaine[/name] (vee-oh-[name]LEN[/name]), the name of a French language assistant I once had. She came from [name]Brittany[/name] in [name]France[/name], where traditional [name]Breton[/name] names are often used, although her name is fairly uncommon in her region, and totally unheard of outside of it, so it’s a lovely alternative to [name]Violet[/name], and it’s almost unique!
