Ideas for a female protagonist

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! Um, I’m new here so if there are any mistakes in my posts and whatnot please do correct me. Sooo I’m looking for a name for a female protagonist in a story I’m writing. She has long chestnut brown hair, blue eyes and fair skin. She has a laid-back and aloof personality, and doesn’t have much friends. She’s the only daughter of a rich widowed model (idk if this matters). I loved [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Amara[/name_f], but her love interest is named Gara, and… they don’t sound good together (Gara and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]? Gara and [name_f]Amara[/name_f]?) so no names ending with ‘ra’, please! Here are some of the names I’ve considered.

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (I like how it looks in writing, but I’m not too big on how it sounds)
[name_u]Skye[/name_u] (is this too hippie?)
[name_f]Serena[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u]

Gara and [name_u]Arden[/name_u] would make a Garden! But does [name_u]Arden[/name_u] sound too boyish? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it clash with her aloof personality? I mean [name_u]Arden[/name_u] sounds like Ardent, which means passionate/enthusiastic.

If it helps, her mother (who named her) is a rich, widowed model. Also, I prefer shorter names, preferably 3 syllables at most.

I’d love some suggestions!
Thanks for the help in advance! Sorry if I’m too picky

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] - is a nice name, but I think it has a history of being used for evil characters? (because ivy is poisonous) And if you’re not sold on the sound anyway…
[name_u]Skye[/name_u] - I don’t think it’s too hippie. Her mother is a model and celebs have a habit of using word names, right? I prefer the spelling [name_u]Sky[/name_u], though.
[name_f]Serena[/name_f] - has a divine sound to it. Maybe a bit too much for her laid-back personality? Or just right because the feels like she’s better than others?
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] - see [name_u]Skye[/name_u]. Maybe a bit too modern, with [name_u]Wren[/name_u] trending now and you character being in her teens already
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] - nice in theory, but I feel like it violates the “no -ra” rule
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - totally not my style but you could make it work. The connection to Ardent is not a problem for me, I like it when people’s character doesn’t line up with their name’s meaning or image
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] - I like it. I don’t know if it fits, though.

All in all my favourites are [name_f]Serena[/name_f] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u]!

It’s a shame about [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Amara[/name_f] - they really fit the character. Perhaps you could change the love interest’s name instead?

  • [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] – I understand what you mean about the look vs. sound. However, I think that it’s quite harsh-sounding with bad connotations, and doesn’t fit your character that well. You could make it work, though.
  • [name_u]Skye[/name_u] – Like PP said, celebrities have a habbit of using word names. I think it’s quite sweet, however, and doens’t sound that harsh.
  • [name_f]Serena[/name_f] – I like this name! In my opinion, it isn’t harsh and I could picture your character being named this.
  • [name_u]Wren[/name_u] – I like this, too! I prefer [name_u]Skye[/name_u] or [name_f]Serena[/name_f], though.
  • [name_f]Aria[/name_f] – Guess what? I like this as well! Great list. I can picture someone named [name_f]Aria[/name_f] being either strong and powerful, or soft and quiet.
  • [name_u]Arden[/name_u] – I’m not too fond of this name, though I don’t think it’s that masculine at all. However, it doesn’t fit your character as well as the previous names, in my opinion.
  • [name_u]Robin[/name_u] – I don’t think this fits that well either, I’m afraid.

My top choices are [name_u]Skye[/name_u], [name_f]Serena[/name_f] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f].

My suggestions:

  • [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Mia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
  • Elowyn
  • [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
  • [name_u]Ever[/name_u] (if you wanted to go with the word theme)
  • [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
  • Ginerva
  • [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Sansa[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Luna[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Helena[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Lena[/name_f]’

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I helped!

Thanks for the replies! I was about to go with [name_u]Skye[/name_u], but then I thought about how the love interest’s name can be changed. I thought about [name_u]Storm[/name_u] - I’m pretty fond of it, which is why my username is stormblitzer, haha! I think I might use [name_u]Storm[/name_u], but if I decided to go with Gara instead, I think I’ll name the girl [name_u]Skye[/name_u]. But anyways, thanks again for the help!

I wish I’d seen this earlier! This is a fun one! I also love [name_u]Skye[/name_u] and think it’d fit perfectly with your character. If you want to change the love interest’s name to [name_u]Storm[/name_u], that’d be a good move too. Personally, I think [name_u]Storm[/name_u] and [name_f]Amara[/name_f] sound better than [name_u]Storm[/name_u] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], but either way, it’d sound great!
Good luck on your story!
