Ideas for fourth child

Hello- I’m writing here for ideas really, for naming our fourth baby.

My husband and I have three kids-
[name]Caius[/name] Millen, [name]Olive[/name] [name]Mathilde[/name], [name]Hero[/name] [name]Tabitha[/name].

We don’t really have a tactical style for choosing names- just go for what we love really.
I’m from a family of unusual names- my father was an English academic and named my brother and I accordingly for his favourite literary faces.
My husband was brought up under the Steiner school system, where names like [name]Tullia[/name] and [name]Galatea[/name] were bandied around fairly freely.
Our kids go to a Steiner school also, so the same liberties in naming are accorded by the parents there…

Having said that, I’m aware of the fact that kids need to fit in. [name]Hero[/name]‘s middle name was more carefully chosen than the others’, perhaps, as we’re conscious that she may want to use it in teenage years/at some point. We call her [name]Tabby[/name] sometimes so it wouldn’t seem such an alien choice for her if she wanted to switch.

Criteria for us are:

  • Strength. All three names we’ve chosen have a certain focus and vitality for us
  • Balance. I like names which have a rounded cadence. Names like [name]Evangeline[/name] for instance, for me lack the kind of shape and flow of the names I favour
  • Preferably not a name beginning with C, O or H. Not a vital one if we really love the name though.

Looking forward to any suggestions you can come up with.

[name]Hi[/name] there. I like [name]Joan[/name] actually. Maybe just as a middle name- not sure how much oomph it has as a first name?
I also like [name]Athena[/name], but I feel like [name]Athena[/name] and [name]Hero[/name] are a bit TOO powerful put together.

As for the boys’ names, the only one that struck me is [name]Dietrich[/name]. It’s a name thats never struck me- that I can’t even remember really hearing- before but I actually think it’s a good one! Is it prn [name]Dee[/name]-trick?

Had fun looking through your replies. Some really creative ideas; lots of them I like.

The ones I’m taking aside for some thought are:

[name]Eamon[/name]- I love this. Sounds a little romantic but still boyish
[name]Jules[/name]- Too nicknamey?
[name]Lorne[/name]- The sound of this one appeals. Not sure if its too similar to [name]Lorna[/name] or not? Or to love-lorn!
[name]Amaury[/name]- Is it A-mah-ree or A-mow-ree
[name]Valen[/name]- I love this. My favourite suggestion of all I think. All the romance of [name]Valentine[/name], but stronger and more wearable.
Falco- Such a fan of Falco. [name]Don[/name]‘t know if Falco and [name]Hero[/name] might be a bit much though?
Tolan- This is one from my husband’s family tree. [name]Caius[/name]’ middle name is a name from my family, so it would be nice to carry that on…

[name]Fife[/name]- I like this a lot, but is it a little masculine with a [name]Hero[/name] as well? Any opinions on this one?
[name]Xanthe[/name]- Always loved this. Thought of it for [name]Olive[/name].
[name]Sybil[/name]- I think [name]Sybil[/name] is beautiful. My only concern being, would she! I think Downton [name]Abbey[/name] should have made this more workable…lets see. I like [name]Sib[/name] and [name]Billy[/name] as nicknames too
[name]Elsa[/name]- This is a family name (posted another thread about it) and a strong contender for us both
[name]Marion[/name]- My husband has always suggested [name]Marion[/name], for each pregnancy. Its only now beginning to grow on me

If anyone has any advice/comments on these names I’d really appreciate it.
We have a three syllable surname which starts with G, if that weighs in on any of the names

[name]Glad[/name] you liked some of the suggestions-- it was fun working with your parameters too!

Here are some possible combinations from the names you liked:

Boy - [name]Valen[/name] [name]Dietrich[/name], Tolan [name]Amaury[/name], [name]Ronan[/name] Falco, [name]Eamon[/name] [name]Jules[/name], [name]Willem[/name] [name]Jules[/name], [name]Dietrich[/name] [name]Egan[/name]
Girl - [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Fife[/name], [name]Sybil[/name] [name]Marion[/name], [name]Ione[/name] [name]Delta[/name], [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Marion[/name] [name]Celia[/name], [name]Una[/name] [name]Marion[/name], [name]Celia[/name] [name]Fife[/name], [name]Sybil[/name] [name]Fife[/name]

Info on the name [name]Amaury[/name]-- I learned of it from [name]Simon[/name] de Montfort’s family (who were French and also married into the Angevin ducal line - [name]Fulk[/name] as well as the British royal family)-- several family members had the name. On another website I learned it has a meaning in [name]German[/name]: bravery and power; work ruler; or French: it was a form of [name]Amory[/name] or [name]Amery[/name]. The suggested pronunciation is [name]AH[/name] mawr ee and it may be a form of Amalricus. It’s a combination of the [name]German[/name] ‘amal’ meaning “work, bravery” plus ‘rik’ meaning “power, ruler.” The name was brought to [name]England[/name] by the Normans. This is a given name which evolved into a surname and in modern times, appears as both. This is the French form. [name]Amaury[/name] may also be from ‘helm’ meaning “helmet” and ‘rik’ meaning “ruler.”

[name]LOVE[/name] your children’s names! What about:

[name]Eamon[/name] [name]Jules[/name] ([name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eamon[/name] for you!)
[name]Dietrich[/name] [name]Lorne[/name]

[name]Marion[/name] [name]Fife[/name]
[name]Sybil[/name] [name]Ione[/name]

Some awesome names here! I like the name [name]Thora[/name] which I think would fit in well - it means “thunder goddess”!

Wow, I’m thrilled to see [name]Hero[/name] used and absolutely in love with the combination [name]Hero[/name] [name]Tabitha[/name]! All of your kids have great names.

[name]Nona[/name] ([name]One[/name] of the Parcae, the three personifications of destiny, in [name]Roman[/name] mythology, which is quite cool.)
[name]Ismene[/name] / [name]Ismay[/name]

Lievin / Lieven

davisellu- I liked a lot of these pairings. [name]Haven[/name]'t really tried playing around with middle names yet, so this was fun.
I liked: Tolan [name]Amaury[/name], [name]Eamon[/name] [name]Jules[/name], [name]Willem[/name] [name]Jules[/name], [name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Fife[/name], [name]Sybil[/name] [name]Marion[/name], [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Celia[/name] [name]Fife[/name].
Particularly the sound of [name]Eamon[/name] [name]Jules[/name]/[name]Willem[/name] [name]Jules[/name], [name]Celia[/name] [name]Fife[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name]…

leonielee- I think [name]Eamon[/name] is my favourite choice, as yet. [name]Eamon[/name] [name]Jules[/name] is a combination I like, too. Its a shame [name]Eamon[/name] Tolan doesn’t work, as I’d have liked a family name in there…

alphaalpha- I do like [name]Thora[/name], but find the sound even a little TOO powerful, if that makes sense!

nono- Thanks, [name]Hero[/name] nearly had [name]Tabitha[/name] for a first name. Literally changed our minds the day we wrote the birth certificate. Had been oscillating between the two for the whole pregnancy.
Loved many of the names from your list. Those I liked best were: [name]Nona[/name], [name]Opal[/name], [name]Pallas[/name] and [name]Lark[/name].
Sadly, I think [name]Opal[/name] and [name]Olive[/name] are a little much; [name]Pallas[/name] and [name]Hero[/name] sounds a little too Greek tragedian; and [name]Nona[/name] is a word for Grandma which a few people I know use… [name]Lark[/name] I think is fun but I can’t see it on a grown woman, quite.
On the boys’ list I liked:
[name]Ivor[/name], [name]Cato[/name], [name]Penn[/name], [name]Boaz[/name].
I think [name]Penn[/name] sounds a little short, or abrupt maybe, aloud for me to want to say every day! [name]Ivor[/name] the terrible jokes would be just too tempting with that one; and [name]Cato[/name] and [name]Caius[/name] are a little too matchy for me.
However, [name]Boaz[/name] is going on my list. Is it prn [name]Bow[/name]-az or [name]Bo[/name]-ez? Think its very striking

For some reason I immediately thought of [name]Ptolemy[/name] for a boy for you! I actually really love the name.

Eamon- I really like this one, also Aimen
Amaury- I prefer Emery, this one sounds a bit like the song, “That’s Amore”
Egan - I like this one!
Valen- Love! I read a book with a character by this name and I’ve loved it ever since. Also, Corbin, though you said no C’s!
Boaz- beautiful! Love this one. I say, Bow-az

Celia - I love this one, though it starts with a C and I’m not sure I like it with your set
Fife- interesting, kinda like Piper’s little sister  Fifer! I’m not sure if I like it or not
Xanthe- There was a little girl named Xandi in the nursery yesterday, I thought that was beautiful! I like Xanthia better than Xanthe because of the pn issue
Sybil- I like Sybil, also Sylvie, though that might be too regular
Marion- not my style at all, though I like Marine a lot.

Vashti (I love this one! Nobody uses it anymore but it’s so gorgeous imo)
