So I’ve just found out we’re having a little girl, which is great as we have a son, and my husband also has another son from a previous relationship.
I was pretty much set for a boys name, but my girls name list is quite long though I’m still not 100% sure I’ve found one I really love and is ‘the one’ - if you know what I mean. I’m keen to hear as many ideas as possible to see if anything new stands out to me. I like a variety of names, but generally nothing really popular, and I generally like a name to have a simple easy nn.
[name]May[/name] I ask your son’s name? That might help too. I really like [name]Adele[/name] and [name]Primrose[/name] from your list. Here are some other suggestions:
[name]Geneva[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] nn [name]Bea[/name], [name]Trixie[/name], [name]Bibi[/name] etc
[name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] nn [name]Cleo[/name] (I realise [name]Cleo[/name] is already on your list in its own right)
[name]Amelia[/name] nn [name]Amy[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] nn [name]Callie[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] nn [name]Adie[/name]
[name]Roberta[/name] nn [name]Bobbie[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name]
[name]Theodora[/name] nn [name]Dora[/name], [name]Thea[/name] etc
My favourite from your list is [name]Greta[/name]! What about [name]Gretchen[/name] nn [name]Greta[/name]? [name]Greta[/name] can definitely stand on its own but I really love [name]Gretchen[/name]. I also liked [name]Annika[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Carys[/name] and [name]Primrose[/name] from your list. Some other ideas you might like:
[name]Alanna[/name] or [name]Alana[/name]
[name]Bridget[/name] nn [name]Bree[/name] or [name]Birdie[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tillie[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name]
[name]Xenia[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Anya[/name]
[name]Patience[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name]
Thanks everyone. My son’s name is [name]Wesley[/name] nn [name]Wes[/name], if that helps any! I really like [name]Adelaide[/name] too, but I’m in Australia and my surname is also the name of a city, so two city names might be a bit strange!
[name]Xanthe[/name]-- a beautiful name meaning ‘golden-haired,’ but unfortunately looks jarringly exotic next to [name]Wesley[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]- in general I don’t care as much for compound names (i.e. [name]Annemarie[/name], [name]Marilyn[/name]), but this has a light and feminine sound. It does repeat some sounds with [name]Wesley[/name]
[name]Annika[/name]- great fit. Definitely has some Eastern European flair, but is easy to say and very distinctive.
[name]Cleo[/name]- fun choice, but again a bit exotic with brother [name]Wesley[/name]
[name]Prudence[/name]- This is still very Puritan to me. I don’t find the ‘pru’ sound to be pretty, and it ends with ‘dense.’
[name]Pia[/name]- sweet, short, and a strong style statement. Again doesn’t match with the quite English [name]Wesley[/name], but it’s definitely interesting.
[name]Adele[/name]- a nice match to [name]Wesley[/name]; a beautiful distinguished old name. However, many will think you’re naming her after the singer (up to you if that would bother you). If not-- strong contender
[name]Primrose[/name]/[name]Rose[/name]- ‘Prim’ is not something I’d like to associate with my little girl, personally. [name]Rose[/name] itself in the first spot would be lovely.
[name]Saskia[/name]- beautiful Dutch name; like [name]Annika[/name] it rings Continental next to [name]Wesley[/name] but not too much so.
[name]Christabel[/name]- this is a little overwrought. Too many girls’ names ideas stuffed into one.
[name]Carys[/name]- very sweet Welsh choice, and pairs well with brother [name]Wesley[/name]. Another strong contender.
[name]Bridie[/name]- very mismatched and quite a different tone from your other selections. [name]Don[/name]'t care for diminutives/nicknames as full given names. Perhaps Birghid?
[name]Delia[/name]- very refreshing option! This is a wonderful old name, with a sweet, modern sound. Quite unexpected but not odd, and again works well within the context of the family.
[name]Tanith[/name]- I don’t care for the heavy sound. It’s very unusual, and as such it doesn’t appear particularly feminine.
[name]Greta[/name]- again a heavy name. It’s close to grate and regret.
I just saw [name]Tanith[/name] again yesterday after years of it being forgotten, and I still love it. I also love [name]Christabel[/name], [name]Saskia[/name] ([name]Kiki[/name]) and the nn [name]Pru[/name] (but not [name]Prudence[/name] - I like the suggestion of [name]Prunella[/name]).
