Ideas needed for fresh, positive, uplifting boho girl names

I don’t know whether we’re having a boy or girl & I’m due early-mid next year. To date, we’re 99% certain of our boy’s name ([name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]), but we’re just not ‘enthralled’ by the same girl’s name yet - and I’ve been researching extensively.

I’d be very grateful for any NameBerry community opinions regarding your likes/ dislikes of the listed names (as well as other first name suggestions). [name_m]Even[/name_m] middle name suggestions are very welcome. I’m starting to feel like I’ll not find a girl’s name that I absolutely adore.

NB My partner says he loves [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] & [name_u]Sky[/name_u] etc. Of the three, I only like [name_u]Sky[/name_u].

My first name preferences at this stage are as follows:

Ferelith
Utopia
[name_f]Elizabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f]
Persimmon
[name_f]India[/name_f]
[name_u]Sky[/name_u]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
Seabrooke
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Antiquity[/name_f]
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Violette[/name_f]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]
Earendil
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
Elysium
Ysabeau/ [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]
[name_f]Godiva[/name_f]
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
Kitten
[name_f]Feather[/name_f]
Thistle
[name_f]Quintessence[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
Chartreuse
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
Vivaldi
Debussy
Tuscany
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
Evaen
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Rhonwen[/name_f]

Thanx  !!

PS My litmus test for our girl’s name is whether I’d love the name for my own name - my partner’s tastes are towards feminine, traditional & pretty girl name. However, no matter how much I like a name, if I wouldn’t love it as my own name, it’s not the “One”…

A few suggestions you might like:
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
Adrasteia
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]/[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Djuna[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Poet[/name_f]
[name_f]Galilea[/name_f] or [name_f]Galatea[/name_f]
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] - I find the [name_f]Isis[/name_f] story in Egyptian mythology to be quite poetic. Essentially, [name_f]Isis[/name_f]’ husband is murdered by his brother, who then tears him to pieces and scatters them in the wind. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] travels the world collecting the bits of [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] so she can put him back together again and revive him.
[name_f]Sonata[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Azure[/name_f]
[name_f]Amoret[/name_f]
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Muse[/name_f]
[name_f]Boheme[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
Iluma
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]

I can’t tell you how much I love Thistle. Also [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but of course that’s Sleeping Beauty’s “real” name. I like [name_u]Sky/name_u, [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]. I’ll suggest Cactus, [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Bay[/name_u].

Well, I adore your choice for a boy, but can’t say I am enthralled with any of the girl choices, though I do like [name_u]Sky[/name_u], and would like [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] except that she’s such a strong association with a racist, murdering witch…

A few suggestions of my own based on your boy’s choice and a few of your girls’ choices (I’m seeing a theme for ancient Greek/[name_m]Roman[/name_m] names and nature names, plus mythical names), which lead me to think of…
[name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]/[name_f]Iantha[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Hestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
[name_f]Circe[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Corisande[/name_f]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Eos[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Ovidia[/name_f]
[name_f]Zea[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]

[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Reverie[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u] are my picks.

What about:
Havaina
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
Daizleh (not sure how you spell it but it’s pronounced Daze-a-lah)

Well, from your list I love…

Ferelith
Seabrooke
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Violette[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]

[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariposa[/name_f]
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Merrily[/name_f]
[name_f]Posey[/name_f]
[name_f]Serenity[/name_f]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u]
[name_f]Spring[/name_f]
[name_u]Storm[/name_u]

[name_f]Hebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f]

[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] would make a wonderful middle name, especially if [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] has special meaning to you or your family.
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] - [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is okay as a middle name. Personally I prefer several other -blue- names that would evoke the same images - [name_f]Azure[/name_f], [name_f]Indigo[/name_f], [name_u]Cyan[/name_u].
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] _ When I was a teenager I really loved this name. It still appeals to me some.
Seabrooke - Seabrooke could make a fun middle name.
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] -I love [name_u]Sage[/name_u], as a middle name.
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I am personally not attracted to [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is gorgeous. I would use it as middle names.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful. Yes, wordy but filled with such imagery.
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] _ Safforn is a very nice middle name.
Ysabeau/ [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] but I love [name_f]Isabel[/name_f].
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f] - [name_f]Lotus[/name_f] is a beautiful middle name.
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], as a middle name.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is very pretty and sweet.
Tuscany - Like [name_f]Alaska[/name_f], I can see Tuscany as a meaningful middle name for people that have a tie to Tuscany.
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] - [name_u]Eden[/name_u] is beautiful and sweet.

Of your list the ones I think would wear best on a little girl while holding on to the feeling you’d like are. [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], and [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Violette[/name_f] are also beautiful and sweet names. But I don’t get much of a boho feel from them. [name_u]Evan[/name_u] as a girls name is likewise nice, but not getting the feeling across that you want to.

Finally I think [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], while an interesting name, sounds very similar to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], and that will likely cause a lot of confusion. Also to lay my cards on the table, [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] just totally ruined this name for me.

I’d like to add [name_f]Undine[/name_f]/ [name_f]Ondine[/name_f] a water spirit, and alchemy element, with some literary and musical cred.

and

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] would be another beautiful choice.

In general looking over your list, unless the place holds a special meaning to you I’d recommend against place names. One of my best friends has a place name, people always ask her about it and she has to say “My parents just like the way it sounded”. Which annoys her. However if there is a story, like “my parents fell in love in [name_f]India[/name_f]. They got married in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f]. My mom had a spiritual moment in Tuscany.” I think it makes the name more meaningful.

I also know a middle aged lady named [name_f]Feather[/name_f]. She has spent her life saying “Not [name_f]Heather[/name_f]”.

I’d also stay away from names like [name_f]Elizabella[/name_f], and [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]. These names will be mispronounce and miss spelled her whole life. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]/a are beautiful graceful names. But by altering them like this it just look way to kre8tv for to my eyes.

Good luck and congratulations. I know you will find the right name for your little one!

Ferelith - Dislike
Utopia - It would be hard to live with this name. A utopia is a perfect place. I’d be hard to be this kid.
[name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] - way too filly / girly.
[name_f]Alaska[/name_f] - GORGEOUS! Unexpected, yet totally usable.
Persimmon - Dislike.
[name_f]India[/name_f] - Eh.
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] - I prefer [name_u]Skye[/name_u]. I think the e adds a beautiful feminine touch.
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - evil witch from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. I would assume your kid was evil. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]?
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] - I like this, but not as much as I love [name_f]Alaska[/name_f]. It seems boring compared to some of the others you’re talking about.
Seabrooke - maybe for a middle… But i saw you were considering it for [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]. I’d say it’s more of a boy’s name.
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] - Pretty.
[name_f]Antiquity[/name_f] - Dislike.
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - NMS
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I prefer [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to this.
[name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - a bit of an oxymoron [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] - it’s ok.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]!
[name_f]Violette[/name_f] - What’s wrong with [name_f]Violet[/name_f]? This is ok, how about [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]?
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] - This is for a boy, right? All three names are boys names, not even remotely feminine. This is (honestly) the worst name yet.
Earendil - [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce this?
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] (it’s not my style), but it’s great for you.
[name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Too much. Either [name_u]Skye[/name_u] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f], not both.
Elysium - a nice meaning, but i don’t love the word / name.
Ysabeau/ [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] - sounds like a boys name.
[name_f]Godiva[/name_f] - [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] Chocolate? Too linked to the company.
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f] - don’t love the sound.
Kitten - Dislike. Ok as a nn for a little kid, but as a grown women? No.
[name_f]Feather[/name_f] - See Kitten.
Thistle - uh no.
[name_f]Quintessence[/name_f] - too complicated
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] - Its NMS, but I like it for you.
Chartreuse - a liqueur? No.
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - I like this.
Vivaldi - a boys name. It would be after the male composer, so it must be a boys name.
Debussy - no.
Tuscany - Dislike
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - I like it, but [name_f]IMO[/name_f] it’s too linked to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].
Evaen - no
[name_u]Avery[/name_u] - Yes
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] - Yes
[name_f]Rhonwen[/name_f] - No

[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is dashing. I like these from your list and think they would be wonderful with a brother named [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]:

[name_f]India[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]
[name_f]Godiva[/name_f] (although the “God” syllable could be a bit much to handle)
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhonwen[/name_f]

Personally, I would go with [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] or [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].

Thoughts: Are you for real with [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] for a girl, or is it just [name_u]Evan[/name_u] you’re considering? Some of these I can’t take very seriously, like Utopia, [name_f]Antiquity[/name_f], Debussy, Kitten and Tuscany.
I would add [name_f]Tigerlily[/name_f], Plumeria adn [name_f]Twyla[/name_f]/[name_f]Twila[/name_f].
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] have probably been used a hundred times now.

As a sister for [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] I like Ysabeau (this spelling) or [name_f]Violette[/name_f] the best. They are lovely! Another suggestion I love with [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] is [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]! I think Ysabeau [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] would be beautiful.

Thanx so much for all your wonderful, thoughtful, funny & brutally honest responses !! I’m sure to revisit your comments again & again as I rethink, finesse & make my final name choice…you’ve been so helpful  xxx

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] 451 ~

From your list I love:

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Poet[/name_f]
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] (but it’s more a GP name than an option for me).
[name_f]Sonata[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Muse[/name_f]

[name_m]Will[/name_m] road-test these names again & again to see if any “stick”. Thanx !!

Rainydaygarden ~

So interesting to hear your response. Yes, I too love the name Thistle, but I’m not sure if my daughter would appreciate it…it might make a lovely middle name though…

And I love all your name suggestions i.e. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Sky/name_u, [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Bay[/name_u]. But I wouldn’t choose Cactus. But it is a very unique name!

Ps [name_f]Love[/name_f] your nameberry moniker !!

HillyMae ~

Yes, [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] is a name I’m been warned-off (although I’ve never read the HP series, my nieces and nephews told me not to use it lol). Although it’s technically a star and means warrior(ess), the HP associations are pretty awful…I agree.

From your list I love:

[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]*
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Ovidia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]

In particular, I love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. It sounds nice and means “golden” which is lovely.

KarateLeshi80 ~

C@29 ~

Your comments made me laugh !!

i.e.

[name_f]Elizabella[/name_f] - dislike, too cutesy

[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] - are you serious? For a girl?

Great to road-test these names and get some honest opinions! And I do love [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] too…

From your list I love:

[name_f]Altalune[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] (a GP name for me)
Ostara (adore this, a GP name)
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]

I do love the GP names too…

I really enjoyed reading your very helpful comments  Thanx !! (Btw, I’ve also loved [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] since my teenage years…and so I’m totally surprised that I’m seriously considering it for real - ha!).

BlackCatsMeow ~

Really thoughtful comments. And you’ve given new, insightful perspectives on some names…and sound practicalities to consider too. You’ve definitely given me ‘food for thought’ !!

And [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]/ [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are pretty names too…

Waverly123 ~

Thanx for your honest opinions!! It’s great to bounce ideas…and it’s also great to hear you like [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] too…and yes, my tastes are unconventional…but I still love [name_f]Godiva[/name_f]…is that weird? Would it be cruel to name my child [name_f]Godiva[/name_f]? I just love the name & associations…and I was thinking [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] for a girl not a boy. To me, I think this name would be elegant, chic & beautiful on a feminine girl - but I agree, it would be totally awful on a tomboyish girl. Likewise with Vivaldi, I think it would work beautifully on a girl…

Lastly, re Chartreuse, it conjures the color green for me… but I’m glad you flagged the alcohol connotations…that totally escaped me lol !!

Southern.[name_f]Maple[/name_f] ~

So great to hear you like [name_f]Godiva[/name_f]!! Wow, I thought I’d be the only person to like it…Yes, it’s not the best sound I agree, but the connotations are gorgeous…and I love all the artwork centering on Lady [name_f]Godiva[/name_f].

And yes, [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] & [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] are lovely names…Cheers.

PS [name_f]Love[/name_f] the name [name_f]Maple[/name_f] too!!

IamamIam ~

Thanx for your suggestions  !! From your list I love:

[name_f]Charis[/name_f] / [name_f]Karis[/name_f]
[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Eowyn[/name_f]
Avonlea
[name_f]Eira[/name_f]
[name_f]Esperance[/name_f]/za
[name_u]Arliss[/name_u]
[name_f]Amity[/name_f] (Very pretty name btw!! My partner will think so too…)
[name_u]Averil[/name_u]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
Merit

NB One of my longterm favorite girl names was Avonlea (since falling in love with the [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables series in my pre-teen years). At the time, I thought I’d call one of my children that name (or [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] etc)…so I may yet consider it. Thanx !!

CristinaMariane ~

Thanx for your honest feedback CristinaMariane!!

And yes, I’m totally for real about [name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] for a girl. My Mother adores it too…but the male folk around me think it’s horrendous lol!!!

Re your honest opinion on Utopia, [name_f]Antiquity[/name_f], Debussy, Kitten and Tuscany… you’ve certainly given me something to consider i.e. do I want my daughter’s name to appear “frivolous”? Mmmm, well, to be honest, yes & no… or perhaps, it’s just that some unconventional names might be perceived as ‘weird’…yet, to me, I think these unconventional word names are fresh, delightful & wistful. But yes, they certainly might irk some people, I agree… I guess my brain is wired to like these oddball names…whatever floats yer boat !

And I do love the name [name_f]Twyla[/name_f]…it has a lovely vintage appeal too, thanx !!

MouseHouse7 ~

What a sweet moniker you have !!

Re [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name…it was my favorite some time ago…and I’ve been flirting with the idea of reusing it, even as a middle name…it certainly has that classic/ historical vibe…

And Ysabeau [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] sounds beautiful !!

I think your list is brave, interesting and wonderful!

In particular, I like the following to match with ‘[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]’:

Sky
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
Elysium (I’ve always loved this for a name, I think it is perfect)
[name_f]Godiva[/name_f]
Vivaldi (My oh my, I had never thought of this, but do love the four seasons, and the name has a lovely sound … what a great idea)
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]

The other names I personally either don’t think match very well, or are not as interesting or versatile as these names.
In terms of other suggestions, [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] makes me think of adventure on the high seas, so I went looking for women adventurer names:

Stanhope (Lady [name_f]Hester[/name_f] Stanhope is pretty wonderful)
[name_m]Chalmers[/name_m] ([name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_m]Chalmers[/name_m] [name_m]Adams[/name_m], founder and first president of the Society of Woman Geographers; jungle photographer; war correspondent)
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] / Stark ([name_f]Freya[/name_f] Stark… both names a bit trendy right now though!)
[name_m]Bly[/name_m] (could be [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], nn [name_m]Bly[/name_m]?) ([name_f]Nellie[/name_f] [name_m]Bly[/name_m])
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] ([name_f]Valentina[/name_f] Tereshkova - first woman in space)
[name_u]Baret[/name_u] ([name_f]Jeanne[/name_f] [name_u]Baret[/name_u], first woman to circumnavigate the globe)
There are so many others, but their names don’t stand out to me as likely pairs with [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]…

Thanx for your lovely post TheMonach

I’m so heartened to see [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] & Vivaldi make your shortlist too !! I absolutely adore these names. And I love the Four Seasons. My partner also loves Elysium.

Also, I love your women adventurer name suggestions - ingenius idea…

In particular, I warm to Stanhope, [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_m]Bly[/name_m], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]…they might make great middle names too…

However, atm I’m totally captivated by the name [name_f]Godiva[/name_f]…and I’m relieved not everyone finds it objectionable (well, it’s certainly not the most pretty or lyrical name that’s for sure lol). [name_m]Will[/name_m] road -test it to see if it’s a passing captivation or true love

As for sibsets, [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] might not fit [name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]…but [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] is such an evocative name…so, if it’s not a first name, it might be one of three middle names (yes, very [name_m]OTT[/name_m] but I just can’t limit myself to one middle name at this stage…).

Cheers  xxx

Are you being serious when you say you’d actually love to be called [name_f]Antiquity[/name_f] or Kitten? I try to be open minded with naming, and I think you should name your children whatever you want, but they seem literally ridiculous. Ones I’d avoid for utter silliness…
Ferelith
Utopia
[name_f]Antiquity[/name_f]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]

Elysium
[name_f]Godiva[/name_f]
Kitten
[name_f]Feather[/name_f]
[name_f]Quintessence[/name_f]
Chartreuse
Vivaldi
Debussy

I like [name_f]India[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Lotus[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Rhonwen[/name_f] best. They seem the most ‘uplifting/boho’ to me anyway. You might like…

I am going to whole heartedly agree with Nameberry that [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] has “Baggage no child should have to carry”. Its like naming you child Hershey.

Also while Elysium is an interesting mythological place… As a given name for an actual human child it’s problematic. The -ium ending makes it sound like a chemical or drug. Think magnesium. If you love the name I’d recommend [name_f]Elysia[/name_f].

I’m pretty open-minded about names; I work in what most people would call a conservative profession, but the names I’m surrounded by are not ‘conservative’, perhaps partly because I work in a very multicultural and cosmopolitan city. For me, [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] is a gem of a name; it’s English (I have a weakness for English names), it’s well known but underused, it has a great meaning; and Lady [name_f]Godiva[/name_f] is a great hero in Anglo-[name_m]Saxon[/name_m] legend (and putting the legend to one side, she and her husband were great benefactors in real life). Not to mention there are stunning paintings and sculptures of her in galleries around the world.

Plus, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is an easy nickname.

I must say, I almost always disagree with those negative comments in the NB database. I’m always surprised by them because they often seem shortsighted to me; maybe because I’m not in the US.
