So we are having babies number 5 & 6!! Number one is my step daughter who I raised as my own but had no part in naming. Number 2 is my son who has an Irish name, 3 &4 are boy/girl twins. The boy also has an Irish name. The 3 I have named all have some sort of honor name tied in. It will be hard to make two names fit all the others but I would like them to go with our daughter’s name- [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f].
My husband is very picky and has vetoed most of my suggestions. I do know that we wanted to honor our grandmothers, probably as a middle name. His is [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and mine is [name_f]Rita[/name_f]. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Rita[/name_f] but it means pearl and since they are identical girls I though [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] would be cute middle names. The trick is finding the perfect first names. The only ones my husband hasn’t vetoed are [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] but I don’t think I like them having the same beginning sound. Please help! Also know that we have a last name that can be tricky to put a first name with. It is often made fun of because it is similar to something else and names like [name_m]Harry[/name_m] would be unfortunate.
I love the idea of having [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] as their middle names to connect them while also honoring your grandmothers! I think [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] or [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] would be lovely. I agree that [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] are a bit matchy, but some people like doing that with twins and they do sound different enough that it could work. It’s worth mentioning that people may confuse them a lot if they have the same first initial, though.
I’m not sure what to suggest for other first names since I don’t know much about your personal style, but maybe something in my signature will inspire you
I think [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] would be a lovely twin sibset! Yes, the starting sounds are a bit matchy, but they’re still cute. I think [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] are great (although it would also be fine vice versa).
Thank you so much for the suggestions! I am having a hard time for sure. I love so many that you wrote but my husband is sooo picky. I like [name_u]Zola[/name_u] a lot, I wonder if I can get him to consider that one! Please keep the suggestions coming. I really want to get this right.
Also, When you hear [name_f]Carys[/name_f] to you automatically think Caress? That would be bad with our last name!
My oldest daughter’s name is [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and, to my knowledge, no one has ever thought caress. She does get [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] or carries, or occasionally when she was littler and less articulate people would think it was [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. She loves her name and the mistakes on it have never really bothered her. I get tons of compliments on it.
I love the idea of [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] for middle names for twins, so cute!
Thank you for the thoughts on Caress. That makes me feel better. [name_f]Carys[/name_f] has been my favorite girl name for a decade now and I really want to use it but was starting to talk myself out of it because of that connotation.
As I suspected my husband vetoed my favorites from above including [name_u]Zola[/name_u] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
He is stuck on [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] doesn’t flow as well as [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. I really think it should be [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f].
I’m still open to names that go with [name_f]Carys[/name_f]. I’m pretty set on the middle names.
The middle names totally work, and I don’t find [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] too matchy. The fact that they both start with the same letter might put me off, but they are sweet together.
[name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] work well especially with the middle school of [name_f]Opal[/name_f] & [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but how about:
[name_f]Carys[/name_f] and …
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Amada[/name_f]
[name_f]Amanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Kalila[/name_f]
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Nayeli[/name_f]
[name_f]Myfanwy[/name_f]
All of these share the same/ have a similar meaning to [name_f]Carys[/name_f] of love /loved/ beloved, and I think shared meanings are particularly sweet in twins.
I love [name_f]Carys[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and [name_f]Una[/name_f]/[name_f]Oona[/name_f] which keeps the Irish theme?
I love all the replies, thank you so much. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is one of my favorites but it doesn’t work at all with my last name. My husband likes [name_f]Zara[/name_f] but my name is [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] so way to similar.
I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] but didn’t think my husband would. Then the other day he says, [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]? I say yes! That’s perfect to which he says just kidding. GRRRRRRR!!!
When he gets home I’m going to read him my favorites from the suggestions, maybe he will like one.
What about Hartlyn? I think [name_f]Carys[/name_f] and Hartlyn would be very cute together
Other names:
[name_f]Mallory[/name_f]
[name_f]Trista[/name_f]
[name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Selah[/name_f]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariella[/name_f]
I haven’t had twins, but I have had a husband in veto mode. The problem, at least in my view, is allowing him to sit in judgement and by default make the final call. His opinion isn’t more important or stronger than yours, but you’re willing to compromise and he’s not.
You two need to reframe the naming process as something you collaborate on. It’s certainly fine to veto names you don’t like, but to combine that action with teasing and a general attitude of not compromising is not okay. My mistake was coming up with lists and ideas and then having him tell me which ones he liked or didn’t like; I gave him veto power and the last word without meaning to.
Perhaps if you and your husband each make a list and then compare, giving each other time to talk about what you like about each name, you’ll find more common ground. Perhaps a double-barreled list: one column of single names with firsts and middles, one list of paired first names.
I’ll add a note on my experience as a twin: people hear ‘twin’ and stop thinking ‘individual.’ You may not see that as much with boy/girl twins as you will with identical girls. Personally, I’d give them names different enough that they feel individual to the girls themselves, and give a cue to others to treat them as individuals. Rhyming names or names that share initials give me pause. It’s also a logistics thing: identical initials on school bags or winter coats are less helpful than different initials.
We very much want them to be treated as individuals. I don’t think they will ever be dressed alike. I appreciate your imput and it was my concern as well. I think I have to say [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] is out anyways because it is too similar to my oldest son’s name. I love [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] but this forum and reading the name so much has made me realize it won’t work because it is the same initial and soo similar to my sons. I want each to have unique names that are their own.
Also, I didn’t mean to suggest we aren’t collaborating, we are. I pressed him more on [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and it seems that he does like it, he just doesn’t think it fits with all our other names. I’m going to keep it on our list. He might come around. I also really love [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
So it looks like we are at [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] & ________ [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
So I pressed my husband further and found out that the reason he is hesitant on [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is that it is WWE wrestler [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] [name_m]Owens[/name_m]’ daughter’s name. I mean really?!! Who cares!! Any suggestions on how to get him passed this obstacle? I would love to use [name_f]Carys[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] & [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].
We both prefer [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. Good thought though, thanks! Maybe we just haven’t come across the right one yet. I feel like we have looked at thousands of names though.
