My favorite girl’s name used to be [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but I lost interest when the name became more popular. I then decided on [name_f]Ida[/name_f], but DH hates it. What about [name_f]Idun[/name_f]? We would pronounce it Eye-din, which is not the correct pronunciation. It is a norse goddess of apples and eternal youth, etc. I just found it and DH likes it. Is it too weird? Would the spelling [name_m]Idan[/name_m] seem less made up (even though I just made it up)? I like it and don’t mind if it seems unisex. I just want something unique, but not bizarre. What would you think if you met a baby girl named [name_f]Idun[/name_f]. Be as honest as you like.

I would say the spelling [name_m]Idan[/name_m] is probably a safer bet.
I’m thinking [name_m]Idan[/name_m] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] isn’t the best combo. Maybe make it [name_m]Idan[/name_m] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] so it’s got a little more funky edge to it or [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]?

[name_f]Idun[/name_f] is a really unattractive spelling. I immediately think of “I dun get it” or “I dun wannit.” [name_m]Idan[/name_m] is definitely better, but [name_m]Idan[/name_m] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] doesn’t flow very well, with [name_m]Idan[/name_m] ending in N and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] beginning with B.
Maybe your OH would like the [name_f]Ida[/name_f] more if spelled [name_f]Aida[/name_f]? Another one to try, if sticking to I as the initial is [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is a great alternative to [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
I love Idunn (this spelling) but would prefer to see it pronounced correctly (similar to [name_u]Eden[/name_u]).
[name_m]Idan[/name_m] looks very masculine to me, and I also can’t understand how someone can dislike [name_f]Ida[/name_f] and agree to [name_m]Idan[/name_m].
The spelling traditionally used in English is [name_f]Idony[/name_f] or [name_f]Idonea[/name_f].
