My husband and I recently found out we’re expecting baby #2! Our first is a girl ([name]Auria[/name]) and we had such a hard time finding a name we could agree on. The sex of this baby will be a surprise and we have a boy name picked out so now we need to find some possible girl names. I mostly prefer names that are slightly uncommon. My husband says he likes names that are “different but not weird”.
Here are some of the names I like (and what hubs says about them):
Avonlea (hubs says “Not bad”)
[name]Everly[/name] (hubs says “It sounds like [name]Beverly[/name] but you’re not pronouncing the ‘B’”)
[name]Isabel[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name] - we both like this name but I don’t love how ridiculously popular it is.
[name]Jasmine[/name] - we both like this but it may be too “exotic” for our ultra-[name]German[/name] last name.
[name]Jessamine[/name] - I like this over [name]Jasmine[/name] because it’s similar but without sounding so “[name]Aladdin[/name]”
[name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juneau[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name] (hubs says "kids would call her “oral [name]Laurel[/name]'” - oh geez!)
[name]Reese[/name] (one of hubs’ favs)
[name]Waverly[/name] - we both really like this one
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Zelda[/name] - I hate [name]Zelda[/name] but it’s technically on the list because DH loves it. I want to like it because he does but I just don’t… at all!
I’d love to hear what you think of these names and I’m fully open to additional suggestions! [name]TIA[/name]!
1 [name]Auria[/name] and [name]Jessamine[/name]
2 [name]Auria[/name] and [name]Juno[/name]
3 [name]Auria[/name] and [name]Isabel[/name]
I think the names above would be lovely with your daughters. Names like [name]Everly[/name], [name]Laurel[/name] and [name]Waverly[/name] are not good “matches” with the frilly and feminine [name]Auria[/name].
I think [name]Reese[/name] fits nicely, and you could use it for either gender. Otherwise, maybe [name]Reid[/name], or [name]Odette[/name], or [name]Simone[/name]?
I really like [name]Auria[/name] with [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Willow[/name], and [name]Juno[/name]. I find [name]Auria[/name] and Avonlea a tad matchy. I think you’re right that [name]Jasmine[/name] is too “exotic” (esp with lovely [name]Jessamine[/name] as an option) and that [name]Isabella[/name] is too popular. I think it’s safe to say that [name]Zelda[/name] should come off because you hate it and that [name]Everly[/name] and [name]Laurel[/name] should come off because he’ll probably always see those issues (shame since I love [name]Laurel[/name]; as for [name]Everly[/name], I think [name]Waverly[/name] is way prettier). I like [name]Waverly[/name] a lot, but it’s so much more modern and surname-y than feminine, grounded [name]Auria[/name]. And I do like [name]Reese[/name], but [name]Auria[/name] is distinctly feminine and I think it should have an equally feminine sister. ([name]Rhys[/name] and [name]Auria[/name] would be an AWESOME boy/girl set though!!) [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Juno[/name], and [name]Willow[/name] are soft and pretty without being too girly. Of this bunch, I’d say [name]Jessamine[/name]'s my fave and [name]Juno[/name] I could maybe take or leave. I think [name]Juno[/name] matches [name]Auria[/name] well, but it’s kinda tied to the movie. [name]Jessamine[/name] is so original and underused–and has so many great nicknames! [name]Willow[/name] is pretty, too.
You might also consider [name]Auria[/name] and…
[name]Sylvie[/name] - they could be the silver and gold sisters (even though [name]Sylvie[/name] doesn’t mean silver)
[name]Linden[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name] - nn [name]Romy[/name], [name]Milly[/name], or [name]Mila[/name]
[name]Isabetta[/name] - way less popular than [name]Isabella[/name]
[name]Corinne[/name] or [name]Corinna[/name]
[name]Lucienne[/name] or [name]Lucille[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Tess[/name] or [name]Tessa[/name]
Elowen
[name]Tamsin[/name] - a nature name like [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Laurel[/name] and a little like [name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Penrose[/name]
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback!
I really like [name]Jessamine[/name] but I’m concerned about people mispronouncing it.
ellenelle, I love that you mentioned [name]Rhys[/name] & [name]Auria[/name] as a nice sib set but hubby says no way to [name]Rhys[/name] for a boy. Also, he insists that people would pronouce is like “rice” with that spelling… and he’s probably not wrong.
My name is very similar to [name]Corinne[/name]/[name]Corinna[/name] (and I’ve never been a big fan on my name - perhaps the reason I’ve always been obsessed with choosing my childrens names) but I do love some of the other suggestions. [name]Rosalie[/name] is one of my favs (also, my mom’s name is [name]Rose[/name]) but my hubby has already said no to that as well.
Recently DH is seeming pretty stuck on [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Reese[/name]. I like it but I don’t [name]LOVE[/name] it and it is almost physically painful for me to settle on a name that I don’t feel 100% about.
I’m really liking [name]Jessamine[/name] more and more each day so any suggestions for first and middle combos similar to the top names we like so we can both love it?
I love both [name]Jessamine[/name] and [name]Waverly[/name]! I especially like that [name]Jessamine[/name] is a really old name. [name]Waverly[/name] is so pretty. I think I prefer [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Waverly[/name] over [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name], but just slightly.
I like [name]Jessamine[/name] as well. I wouldn’t go with Avonlea because it just reminds me too much of the makeup brand [name]Avon[/name], which isn’t a horrible association but kind of weird to me. Also [name]Reese[/name] is still all boy to me, despite [name]Reese[/name] Witherspoon using it. I say [name]Jessamine[/name] is the best on the list.
I may be in the minority but I have always loved the name [name]Zelda[/name], probably because of LoZ. It is a guilty pleasure name of mine that won’t ever be used.
[name]Auria[/name] and [name]Jessamine[/name] (my fav)
[name]Auria[/name] and [name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Auria[/name] and [name]Waverly[/name]
[name]Auria[/name] and [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name] is nice! Not so fond of [name]Waverly[/name], but that’s just my opinion. It makes me think of Wizards of [name]Waverly[/name] Place, the Disney show.
Thank you all! I think DH & I are leaning towards saving several name options until we meet baby#2 and then deciding which name would fit best. [name]Waverly[/name] and [name]Jessamine[/name] (maybe [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name] or [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Waverly[/name]) will definitely be on our short list.
