If baby #3 is another girl...

If baby #3 is another girl, we are stuck without a name. We have another month before we find out, but I want to start preparing…
I don’t want anything too popular, although both of our girls have alternatives to popular names:
[name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] [name]Kate[/name] (pronounced [name]Emme[/name]-[name]LINE[/name])
We use the nicknames [name]Belle[/name] and [name]Emme[/name], but most of the time they are [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name].

Here are some names I like and the reason why they might not work:

[name]Libby[/name] (but I don’t want [name]Elizabeth[/name] as her full name)
[name]Nellie[/name] (but I can’t use [name]Eleanor[/name] as her full name)
[name]Cecilia[/name] (It is my grandma’s name, but [name]Annabelle[/name]'s middle name)
[name]Julienne[/name] (nickname [name]Jules[/name]. but this means to chop vegetables in the US. I don’t like [name]Juliette[/name].)
[name]Jillian[/name] (too dated? nickname [name]Jilly[/name])
[name]Gillian[/name] (again, too dated? nickname [name]Gilly[/name]. soft G just like [name]Jillian[/name])
[name]Danielle[/name] (nickname [name]Nellie[/name], but we already have an “elle” ending with [name]Annabelle[/name], and it’s also dated, but my dad is [name]Daniel[/name], so it honors him)
[name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Lilian[/name] (why does it have to be so popular?)
[name]Liliane[/name] (how do you pronounce the French version?)
Lilienne (I’m pretty sure I’m making up my own French version of [name]Lillian[/name] now, but I like it
[name]Adelaide[/name] ([name]Addy[/name] is a very popular nickname though, and this has the same short A beginning as [name]Annabelle[/name])
[name]Josephine[/name] (too harsh with [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]? nickname [name]Josie[/name]. And we already have “ine” ending with [name]Emmeline[/name] even though it would be pronounced differently- it may cause [name]Emmeline[/name] to be pronounced EmmeLEEN even more often)
[name]Genevieve[/name] (again, too harsh with [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]? Nickname [name]Evie[/name]- valid nickname for [name]GenEVIEve[/name]?)
[name]Evelyn[/name] (too popular, too plain… how can I freshen this name up? Also, same short E beginning as [name]Emmeline[/name])
_____mae (something that ends in mae, I keep thinking Jessamae but don’t like that)
[name]Lorelei[/name] (nickname? or something else with “lei” ending?)

Well, my list is all over the place, so feedback would be super helpful

[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Jillian[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Lorelei[/name]

[name]Genevieve[/name] is my favorite from your list. I don’t think it’s harsh at all.

I don’t think [name]Libby[/name] or [name]Nellie[/name] can stand on their own for an adult.
I wouldn’t use [name]Annabelle[/name]'s middle name as she may feel that she is losing (or sharing) a part of her.
[name]Julienne[/name] also makes me think of chopped carrots.
[name]Jillian[/name] is my second choice, with this spelling. It has the soft sound and double lettering that makes it go well with the other names.
I love [name]Danielle[/name] but I’d avoid having two daughters whose names end in [name]Elle[/name] - especially since [name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ella[/name] is quite the fad.
I like [name]Lillian[/name] and [name]Liliane[/name] on their own but I find it quite a mouthful with the heavy Ls in [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] when said all together. [name]Adelaide[/name] is too trendy sounding with your other names.
[name]Josephine[/name] is quite nice, but my third choice.
I’d avoid [name]Evelyn[/name] as it sounds much to similar to [name]Emmeline[/name], despite the different sounds at the end.
I like [name]Lorelei[/name]. It’s my fourth choice.

From your list, I like [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name]. [name]Evelyn[/name] is nice too, but I don’t think it goes well with your other girls’ names (which are gorgeous, by the way).

You could use a different nickname for [name]Adelaide[/name]–[name]Della[/name] maybe?
[name]Josephine[/name] isn’t as girly as your other daughters’ names, but I do like it, and [name]Josie[/name] is such a great nickname.
[name]Genevieve[/name] is every bit as girly and frilly as [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name], it doesn’t share any main sounds with either, and it has great nicknames. [name]Evie[/name] is a perfect nickname, and there are other options, too, like [name]Vivi[/name].

I think [name]Genevieve[/name] is my favorite for you, but you have several great names on your list. It would be sad to go with a nickname as a full name ([name]Libby[/name], [name]Nellie[/name]) when your older daughters have such lovely full names.

[name]Libby[/name] you could use [name]Liberty[/name] for a fn
[name]Nellie[/name] you could use [name]Penelope[/name] for fn
[name]Julienne[/name] do you like [name]Julianne[/name], [name]Julianna[/name], [name]Juliana[/name], [name]Julietta[/name]?
[name]Jillian[/name]/[name]Gillian[/name]- i like these names a lot and i think that [name]Jill[/name] is strong and pretty
also [name]Sheila[/name] is a variation of [name]Cecilia[/name].

I love [name]Liliane[/name] (I found a site that says it’s lil-YAHN…), [name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Lilian[/name] (I agree, too popular!), [name]Josephine[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name]. I think [name]Liliane[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name] ([name]Evie[/name] for this is too cute!) are my favorites, and both are oh-so-lovely next to [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]/[name]Belle[/name] and [name]Emme[/name]! I think [name]Lorelei[/name] is another lovely option… I’ve been considering it lately for the nn [name]Lola[/name], but I think [name]Rory[/name] and [name]Lila[/name] could also work as nns.

All your options are pretty fabulous, but I just can’t get past [name]Liliane[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name]! So beautiful, and they’re oh-so-lovely with your girls. If I had to pick, I would probably say [name]Liliane[/name], mainly because it has that softer feel that [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] have and it’s oh-so-close to my own beloved [name]Liliana[/name] (AND I am a huge sucker for French names!)… and with nicknames, you might have [name]Lily[/name]/[name]Lila[/name]/etc., and [name]Emme[/name] and [name]Evie[/name] might be a bit similar? But you absolutely could not go wrong with [name]Genevieve[/name] and I love both choices for you!

Good luck!

WDYT of:

[name]Sylvia[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] - “[name]Sylvie[/name]”
[name]Lillian[/name] [name]Irene[/name] - “[name]Lili[/name]” or “[name]Lele[/name]”
[name]Lorelei[/name] [name]Danielle[/name] - “[name]Ellie[/name]”
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] - “[name]Josie[/name]”

I love your daughters names  SO STUNNING!!! I think [name]Lillian[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] sound the best next to [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]

[name]Liliane[/name] is pronounced like “lee lee AHNN” you can listen to it here, the spelling is slightly different (2 l’s) but it’s said the same Lilliane pronunciation: How to pronounce Lilliane in French
[name]Liliane[/name] Bettencourt, a french heiress is a famous bearer of the name, so is [name]Leelee[/name] Sobieski

I think [name]Lillian[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name] sound great with your daughters’ names. I think I like [name]Gillian[/name] too.

I like Lilliane/[name]Liliane[/name] or [name]Lillian[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name] with [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]. Congrats on your third baby!

I think some form of [name]Lillian[/name] would be lovely, also I like [name]Genevieve[/name]! You have pretty taste in names, if you want a [name]Mae[/name] ending have you considered [name]Idamae[/name] or [name]Claramae[/name]?

Yeah for wee girls! I am also pregnant with my third daughter, due in [name]May[/name].
My youngest daughter is [name]Evie[/name], short for [name]Genevieve[/name]! So obviously I think it’s a beautiful name. I really like the name [name]Lily[/name], but not so keen on [name]Lillian[/name] but perhaps I’m just not used to it. It’s not popular here in NZ at all & is still an old lady’s name.
Wishing you all the best,
Have fun choosing!

I will chime in for [name]Genevieve[/name] too… I think it sounds lovely with [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name]. One of my favs! I also like [name]Josephine[/name]. I think it’s very feminine and fits very well with [name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name].

If you really like nn [name]Nellie[/name], have you considered [name]Helena[/name] or [name]Helene[/name]? I think [name]Nellie[/name] originally derived from [name]Helen[/name], so those could be two options.

I, too, like [name]Genevieve[/name]. My favorite, though, would be [name]Josephine[/name]. I like the way the name flows with your other girls’ names, and it has the nickname “[name]Josie[/name]” to go with your daughters’ nicknames, [name]Belle[/name] and [name]Emme[/name].

[name]Nellie[/name] could perhaps be a shorter version of [name]Helena[/name]?

[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name] and [name]Helena[/name].

Oh, I really like [name]Genevieve[/name] but without a nn because [name]Evie[/name] is very close to [name]Emme[/name]. Here are other suggestions…

[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Angelina[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Clarice[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Tallulah[/name]

Great advice from everyone, thanks!

So what if [name]Elizabeth[/name] starts to grow on me as a formal first name (that’s how much I love [name]Libby[/name]). It is actually mine and my grandma’s middle names, so it has family ties… but would I be ok with her being [name]Libby[/name] 95% of the time? [name]Just[/name] because I don’t like solely relying on a nickname. ([name]Emmeline[/name] is [name]Emme[/name] 50% of the time and [name]Annabelle[/name] is [name]Belle[/name] 25% of the time.)

Then what about [name]Lydia[/name]. I’d love Liddy just as much as [name]Libby[/name] for a nickname. Is it ok that a college friend I see once every 5 years has a [name]Lydia[/name]? We do communicate often on Facebook if that means anything…

I’m not sold on [name]Evie[/name] being a nickname for [name]Genevieve[/name]… I had a different college friend named [name]Genevieve[/name] that went by [name]Genny[/name], so that’s where I get stuck with [name]Genevieve[/name].

I don’t like [name]Nellie[/name] enough to go with [name]Helene[/name] or [name]Helena[/name].

[name]Genevieve[/name] all. the. way. I have a friend named that and we all call her Vieve. I have always just loved her name and she gets so many compliments on it!! Gorgeous!
