I tend to call my closer friends cutesy versions of their names, but not usually out loud, and not usually as a “nickname” but more of an endearment. I’d probably call her (in my head) Elari, [name_f]Lari[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Out loud, I likely wouldn’t give her a nickname unless she wanted one.

If anything, maybe Ella… or [name_u]Ari[/name_u]. I’m not a huge Ellie/Elle fan, nor [name_u]Ara[/name_u], and while I like [name_f]Lara[/name_f], I don’t love it enough to purposely try calling someone it. haha. If I instigate a nn, it’s usually to lengthen a name rather than shorten it (I’ve called friends named [name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_f]Carol[/name_f], and [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] “Benedetto”, “Carolina”, and “Serafina”, etc.!), and I can’t really think of anything that’d naturally work to lengthen [name_f]Elara[/name_f]. It feels rude to me to give someone a nn without someone else already calling them that, but maybe that’s not necessarily the case between BFFs…
