If Gumnut is a Girl...

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

I am about halfway with bubba #2 and I’m starting to think more seriously about names. My partner and I struggle to agree on many names, especially when it comes to girl names. I prefer longer, old-fashioned and more unique names, whereas he likes shorter and more popular names. Our plan is to take three for each gender in to labour as that’s what we did with our daughter, [name_f]Olive[/name_f].

What are your thoughts on the names on our current shortlist?

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - only drawback is the rise in popularity here in Australia. Although [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is also in the top 100 which took me a while to come around to during my first pregnancy.
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - my favourite. We’d potentially nickname her [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] or [name_f]Cece[/name_f] as the surname is [name_m]Costello[/name_m].
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Coco[/name_f] or [name_f]Cece[/name_f] - Not sure if it goes with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - wanted to avoid our initials and my partner is [name_m]Adam[/name_m]. Thinking it might get confused with [name_f]Ava[/name_f]?
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] - my partner’s favourite. I would prefer a fuller name for the birth certificate, but I don’t love [name_f]Frances[/name_f], not that SO will agree to it anyway, and he thinks [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is “too much” for our family. Also very popular in Aus atm.

Other potential contenders if my partner decides he likes them one day (he actually changes his opinion on names day-to-day which makes it harder) are: [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].

Thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing your opinions! Sorry for my rambling/venting.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] ‘[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]’ - love this one. It feels versatile in that i see it belonging to someone sweet and gentle, someone studious, someone girly, someone rough and tumble. It’s one ive encountered but not too much. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] fit well together

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is gorgeous! I love the elegance and charm and anything which gets to [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] is a plus in my eyes. It’s full of flair but not too out there

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - a beautiful name and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Coco[/name_f] go really well with [name_f]Olive[/name_f], though they do feel a bit different as full names. I don’t think that needs to be a deal breaker though -they flow well together nonetheless. [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] also came to mind

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - i love [name_f]Ada[/name_f] - quirky, vintage and sweet but it is very close to [name_m]Adam[/name_m]. My brother is [name_m]Adam[/name_m] and i think that would put me off using [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. [name_f]Adele[/name_f] maybe -or even [name_f]Adelia[/name_f] (mixing [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] almost) came to mind

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] -i do enjoy [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] - there’s something lively and tough about it but also sweet. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] are cute together. [name_f]Francine[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]’ could work if you liked it

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is stunning -warm and cosy. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is sweet and funky and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] has a kind of rough and tumble elegance about it.

I think to sum up, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are my faves, along with [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]

My favourites are [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. Gorgeous names, and go lovely with [name_f]Olive[/name_f].

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is also nice, but [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore has daughters named [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. If that doesnt bother you, Ffankie is lovely.

I would go for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], personally, followed by [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] (if your S/O is on board).

Given that your partner’s name is [name_m]Adam[/name_m], I’d avoid [name_f]Ada[/name_f], and while [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is sweet, if you prefer a longer form but neither of you can agree on one, I’d say it’s a safe bet to nix that as well. I like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], but after thinking a lot about it, I feel like you’d be locking yourself into a food theme. I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] would make for a nice MN choice, but I don’t really love them up front.

We have similar taste in names - [name_f]Olive[/name_f] was one of the front runners for my daughter’s name but unfortunately my partner didn’t love it as much as I did. I was also a little concerned by its growing popularity (I’m also in Australia) although another one of our front runners was [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], which is much more popular.

Anyway, of your choices I absolutely love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], and think both are lovely with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is more popular so if that’s a concern then [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] makes a great, not too popular choice. I do really love the combination of [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] though, but [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are beautiful together too.

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] are really lovely too, and I like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] but not quite as much. The only one that doesn’t appeal to me is [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].

As you want to avoid repeating initials with [name_m]Adam[/name_m] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] I think you should take [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and either [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] in with you. Although perhaps Frankie isn’t a great idea considering you’d prefer a longer name for it and aren’t particularly into any of the options. In that case I’d say [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] should be an option, even though it’s getting a little too popular for my liking.

Ultimately, I see Clementine as your best choice.

Anyway, good luck with the decision-making process, I know how hard it can be!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is lovely! Here are my thoughts on your list for #2:

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - This is rising in popularity in Australia? I feel like people in general have way better taste down there, LOL. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is so cute, & perfect w/[name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I don’t personally love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], but I also think that [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is better w/a full name.

[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] - Ooh, my favorite too. I love it. It’s feminine, cherry, spunky, a little wild & fairly unique. At least in the US it is. I adore the nn [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]. The nn [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is another option.

[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Coco[/name_f] or [name_f]Cece[/name_f] -Well, it doesn’t not go w/[name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I wouldn’t let that keep you from using it. It’s a pretty name. I kind of like just [name_f]Cora[/name_f] better w/[name_f]Olive[/name_f] personally. Or maybe [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]?

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] -I think that [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is rising in popularity in my neck of the woods because people want a name that’s like [name_f]Ava[/name_f], but not [name_f]Ava[/name_f] being that [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is so popular. So, it’s a really sweet name, but probably getting popular.

[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] -This isn’t my personal favorite, but I think that it could be cute as a nn. I just don’t think it’s quite full name worthy though. [name_f]Francine[/name_f] maybe?

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]-This is nice. Kind of soft & homely sounding, but in a sweet way.

[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]-[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! Another one on my list too. So so pretty & spunky.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]-I love this one too. It’s different, & goes well w/[name_f]Olive[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

You can always go with Francia instead of [name_f]Frances[/name_f] for [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Coco[/name_f] the best especially since your first daughter’s name [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is so simple.

your list:
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - I can’t speak for popularity in Australia but it’s darling - cute with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Cordy[/name_f] or [name_f]Coco[/name_f] are sweet but I don’t know if I would play on the surname like that
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a bit much for me
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is lovely but I agree if you want to have your own initials skip A names then
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] - [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - I actually love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] nn ‘[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]’ but not [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] standing on its own , don’t know why
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] together I could go either way on but I don’t dislike them together
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] might be perfect, I don’t know why but they sound like sisters, and [name_f]May[/name_f] of [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are great nns
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] - a fav of mine, [name_f]Olive[/name_f] & [name_f]Bea[/name_f] could work, I think [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] has a nice ring to it
I think you and your partner will find the right name, this is a very nice list and you see to be thinking about evergthing.
Congrats on your little one!

I also have an [name_f]Olive[/name_f]!
My favourites are [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]! I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] together.
Funny [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] was my husband’s top choice when preg too! I never warmed to it enough to use but I do like it.

I think that [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is my favourite, particularly with nickname [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Coco[/name_f] could potentially work for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] too and I do like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] & [name_f]Coco[/name_f] (but I can’t say I’m all too fond of [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] myself).

I also like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] & [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] (and though that did immediately bring to mind [name_u]Drew[/name_u] Barrymore’s girls, that’s not at all a negative for me as I’m a long-time [name_u]Drew[/name_u] fan. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is just so brilliantly zesty and bold, but any ‘fuller’ names for it just takes that vibe away for me - I definitely prefer it standalone. [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] would make for a great combo.

[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] is really sweet too, and works beautifully with [name_f]Olive[/name_f], giving both a lovely, vintage feel.

I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] best!
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f], besides being a beautiful name with a great meaning in itself, echoes the subtle nature connection [name_f]Olive[/name_f] has, without it being in-your-face. Also, I love love love the thought of [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] with last name [name_m]Costello[/name_m]!
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is a favourite of mine as well, and starts with an equally strong vowel as [name_f]Olive[/name_f] does. I feel that its a lot of elegance and understatement for three letters, while at the same time being uncomplicated. It’s super easy to see it grow from suiting a little one to an adult woman, imo.
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f], again, fits perfectly with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] without being matchy in the least. If you love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] flowers (as I do), it has a wonderful imagery.
all the best!

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] are amazing names! They are perfect matches for [name_f]Olive[/name_f]! I also adore [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. All these names are gorgeous.
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] is nice, but I don’t like it as a full name. [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] is a lovely name, though. I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is too close to [name_m]Adam[/name_m]. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a great name, but I really love the five names above.
