If I lived in an English speaking country... aka (more or less usable) guilty pleasures

Here is a list of names that I would use if I lived in an English speaking country, but I never mention because they are not on my realistic lists. The problem is that in Europe they might feel too anglo (esp in my zone) or they might be difficult to pronounce, and I wouldn’t burden them with certain social perspectives or the “too anglo” thing here bothers me a bit, but talking hyphotetically for fun:

Bonnie
May / Mabel
Frances

Morgan (I like it unisex, but here is used for boys only)
Hazel (I have grown to like it!)
Scarlett
Florence
Eleanor, Elinor (I have grown to like it)
Hepzibah (yes, and a gp also because I am not christian nor jewish.)
Cecily
Felicity
Eloise (Just like this, without accent, which is the exception to my rule)
Elsie, Millie,
Essie on its own
Clara, British pronunciation and not KLAARA
Daisy (as a nickname)
Pearl (as a nickname)
Queenie (as a nickname or maybe bold full name)
Dorothy!! I love it!
Nancy
Hetty and Nessie, maybe as nicknames
Georgina,
Jocelyn on a girl (maybe)
Kitty, Katherine
Jessie
Mary (maybe)
Kathleen
Marnie
Ruby (but this already feels quiet usable ahahah, so maybe quitting it from the gp list)
Minnie
Moon (huge guilty pleasure, exception to the rule)
Violet (I have grown to like it)
Clemency (maybe too much)
Dorothea (I like the english pronunciation more than the german/italian one for this)
Goldie
Elizabeth, maybe
Cressida (people wouldn’t know where to put the accent)

I also quiet enjoy Mavis and Sadie and Faye but not so much like the others

What do you think?
And feel free to suggest more because I am not familiar with many names (especially modern or really obscure) used in these contexts (I found about the existence of the name Catesby just some days ago).

Forgot to add [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]! [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] is nice too, I don’t mind it, but I don’t like [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] so much like [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and the other ones. I prefer [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f].

I can’t use [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] because [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is in the top 30s where I live, and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] would always get misspelled. [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is quiet unknown as a variant, while [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] is the standard form for this sound/name.

Bump!

[name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are my favorites, but they’re all great! I have a soft spot for [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] and [name_f]Cressida[/name_f], too.

I’m surprised [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] isn’t more international, especially with [name_f]Gina[/name_f] or [name_f]Nina[/name_f] as a nickname.

Suggestions:
[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]
[name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Emberly[/name_f]

[name_f]Novalee[/name_f]
[name_f]Kimber[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_f]Emerald[/name_f]
[name_u]Liberty[/name_u]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]

I am not sure in other countries, but I live in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and it definitely will become [name_f]Giorgina[/name_f] Also it feels very [name_f]British[/name_f] for me ahahha (not a negative thing)

[name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f] - not my fave, kind of too clunky, but it is intriguing. The draw of it is that it’s also literary (from [name_m]Silas[/name_m] Marner, with the nn Eppie)
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - bubbly and charming
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] - light, lively and pretty)
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] - elegant and charming. I was working with an [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] this year and she suited it so, so well
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]- cute but sassy
[name_f]Millie[/name_f] - charming and pretty
[name_f]Essie[/name_f] - yay, [name_f]Essie[/name_f], so cute but somehow substantial and sophisticated to me
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - clear and bright
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - one I’ve been liking recently - so bubbly and glittery but with kick too
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - sleek with pretty imagery
[name_f]Queenie[/name_f] - this was my fave when I was 11 and I wanted to be called [name_f]Queenie[/name_f]. A fun and sassy name
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - clunky cute and lovely
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f] - sweet and sassy (with some literary ties)
[name_f]Hetty[/name_f] - pretty cute. I do prefer [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] for various reasons, but this does have a literary feel too
[name_f]Nessie[/name_f] - ah, this is cute! Maybe a bit too [name_m]Loch[/name_m] Ness Monster though here?
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] - posh and bold but familiar too
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] - beautiful with an edge! I knew a lovely [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] and she suited it so well
[name_u]Kitty[/name_u], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] - very charming and classic (and I like it because of BBC Ghosts :person_facepalming: )
[name_u]Jessie[/name_u] - very sassy and sparky but grounded too
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] - classic and cute (and BBC Ghosts has drawn me to this again :person_facepalming: sorry, this is my main thought)
[name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] - I like the distinct sound of it
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] - warm, rugged and cute
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - my cousin’s name - it always strikes me as bubbly and charming
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] - it’s pretty cutesy and charming, but with a kick too (probably because of the [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] the [name_f]Minx[/name_f] association here - idk how widespread that is though)
[name_u]Moon[/name_u] - ah [name_u]Moon[/name_u] is kind of magical and whimsical. I know of a Mu.na with the nn Moon)
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - sharp and sleek
[name_f]Clemency[/name_f] - I do prefer [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], but [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] is sweet and charming.
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] - clunky cool - and literary!
[name_f]Goldie[/name_f] - sassy and fun. I think I’d use it as a nn though, probably for [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - it’s okay, bit meh
[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] - a big favourite of mine - elegant, gentle and magical

[name_f]Mavis[/name_f] is another fave  warm and lovely

Thank you! I would not have the courage to use [name_f]Queenie[/name_f] in Europe anyways, but supposing I lived in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country I would; would [name_f]Queenie[/name_f] then be considered a “serious name” or just a childish nickname in US/UK?

I prefer [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] to [name_f]Clemency[/name_f] but I don’t consider [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] as a [name_f]English[/name_f] name, but as a [name_u]French[/name_u] one, because I pronounce [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] in the [name_u]French[/name_u] way (teen and not tine) and it is not guilty pleasure for me.

In the UK, I think it could pass as a full name (alongside names like Polly, Peaches, Birdie, Winnie, Lacey, Princess, Mimi, Minnie, Misty, Dolly etc) and people would just get on with it - it has that vintage vibe after all. However, given everything going on with the Royal Family, it might also be considered a bit cringey tbh. Not childish exactly, but just :grimacing: :grimacing: :face_with_hand_over_mouth: :face_with_peeking_eye: . As I say, a Queenie would probably be fine here though.

I could never use it though because of my surname but :person_shrugging:

ah, makes sense. I suppose I’ve always pronounced it -tine, like in the song

I pronounce it in the [name_u]French[/name_u] way intuitively :sob:
I learned that it could be pronounced -tine too only when I came here, ahahah. Of your list, I liked [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] (that I mentioned as a full name or nickname), [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] (as a nickname only), and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] (as a nickname)

Thanks for your point of view!
