If Isabella or Savannah why not Susannah??

After doing a lot of research on the name [name]Susannah[/name] (and I mean a lot, lol!!) I find it interesting that the majority of people seem like the name. I hear things on other boards like, Classic, beautiful and so on… I also hear," it’s on my list", or “I wish I could use it”. Yet [name]Susannah[/name] is not even in the top 1000. SO this morning I was wondering to myself, why??.. it really is not that unheard of, and honestly it has a very similar feel to ubber popular and beautiful [name]Isabella[/name], and currently rising in the charts [name]Savannah[/name]…

So there is the folk song O [name]Susanna[/name]… but honestly in this day and age, I just can’t see a lot of teasing potential for it. So my last guess is that from what I read a lot of people find the nn [name]Sue[/name] almost unbearable, and their fear is that one day sweet, pretty [name]Susannah[/name] would grow up to be called [name]Sue[/name]… I have to admit, I myslef stronly dislike [name]Sue[/name]…yet, I really think that as a child you can tell people not to call her that… as an adult if she chooses, then she chooses it.

Anyway, just random thoughts, that I thought I would share

Oh and another thought- that [name]Susannah[/name] is one of those names that the “stylish” baby names  on naming boards have been throwing around for a couple of years, so maybe there is a [name]Susannah[/name] bubble about to burst, and maybe in the next few years there will be more people using the name…

I love [name]Susannah[/name], but I think it’s actually a bit more popular than it initially appears. While it doesn’t make the official top 1000, it ranks at number #521 when you combine all the spellings (Name Nerds!). Still not terribly popular and it’s definitely a great alternative to names like [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Savannah[/name].

I suspect the reason that it’s not more popular is that for a lot of people, it might not feel as “fresh” simply because they know so many middle-aged [name]Susan[/name]'s.

You make some excellent and very valid points!
Personally, I love [name]Susannah[/name], with the nickname of [name]Sanne[/name]. Like you, I really dislike [name]Sue[/name].

[name]Just[/name] my thoughts!

Oh wow! [name]How[/name] interesting about the popularity once you add in all the different spellings!! Good to know! Still it is pretty low on the list, which is fine by me of course, I just do find it interesting that it is not used more. Your point of [name]Susan[/name] still being fresh in the mind of so many, may hit the nail on the head.

In addition to [name]Sue[/name] feeling dated, [name]Susie[/name] feels kind of dated too. However, I’ve become friends with a [name]Susie[/name] who has given me a more positive spin on the name / nn!

Well, I’m honestly not a fan of [name]Susannah[/name] at all (sorry!), so it makes perfect sense to me that it’s not popular (and I’m actually kind of glad I rarely hear it!). I have come across a little girl (probably 5-ish?) named [name]Susannah[/name], and I met a [name]Suzanna[/name] my age with the name, and a woman my mom’s age spelled [name]Susana[/name], I believe. I hear it tossed around spelled [name]Susana[/name] in Hispanic circles quite a bit, too.

It has a very heavy and weighed-down feeling to it to me, not at all pretty (although I know just about every other [name]Berry[/name] disagrees with me!)–which is pretty much the total opposite of how I see [name]Isabella[/name] (which feels sweet, light and airy, down-to-earth, a bit exotic, pretty, and super princessy). It reminds me a lot of [name]Sue[/name], [name]Susie[/name]/[name]Suzy[/name], [name]Suzanne[/name], and [name]Susan[/name], which all feel really dated to me, so there’s that, too. I mean, [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name] both have tons of history and they’re both feminine, and they’re both longer names, but that’s about where the similarities end for me. :frowning:

[name]Ash[/name], I can understand and appreciate your feelings. I have a few names I feel the same way about. To me [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Joy[/name] feels light and airy and all the things you described, while [name]Isabella[/name] is beautiful, she is like the [name]Olivia[/name] I love, just way to over done… Anyway, I just found it interesting…

[name]Susannah[/name] nn [name]Sunny[/name] would be so fun! Or you could nn [name]Anna[/name] later in life to avoid [name]Sue[/name]. I wouldn’t use it myself but I would love to meet a [name]Susannah[/name]

I love that song… Oh [name]Susanna[/name] :). Cute name, I think :).

Dear joyfulmomto8,
I seriously think that you should use [name]Susannah[/name] for your next girl. I mean, you really love it. A huge fan. [name]Just[/name] by reading your (previous) posts, I believe that it has been decided (the name [name]Susannah[/name]).

Me, myself, never really like [name]Susannah[/name]. It sounds soft and pretty, but that’s it (at least to me). I just don’t get the feeling while I fall for [name]Isabella[/name] or even [name]Savannah[/name]. [name]Isabella[/name] (prefer french [name]Isabelle[/name]) is classic, timeless, seriously beautiful, and definitely gorgeous (again, it’s my personal opinion). I began to like [name]Savannah[/name] about two years ago. It’s trendy, into nature, pretty, and… I like the way it sounds.

I don’t know any [name]Susannah[/name] in real life but my older cousin named [name]Susan[/name] (no shorthened version, her nn is [name]Susan[/name] too), she is 21 this year. I feel neutral to her name.

I really like [name]Susanna[/name] and if I named a girl that her nn would be [name]Susy[/name] or [name]Anna[/name].
Plus [name]Susanne[/name] is my mn and I love it.
