So, DH is nixxing all my boy name ideas and I think his hang up is, he really wants the name to be one syllable. Our last name sounds like “butterworth”, so he and his brother were given short names ([name_m]Todd[/name_m] and [name_m]Brent[/name_m]) to make up for the long last name. Our son is [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. If we have another boy, and if it has to be one syllable, which would you pick or do you have other ideas?
(big sister is [name_f]Isla[/name_f], the 1 syllable doesn’t apply to girls, since they can get a new last name one day I guess!)
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_m]Craig[/name_m]
[name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] (love this but think it’s too trendy, plus there is a family in town with an [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] sib set…)
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]/[name_u]Reed[/name_u] (I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this, but dh has two bad associations so it’s out)
middle name could be [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] or [name_m]Brian[/name_m] - all family names.
From your list I like [name_u]Drew[/name_u] for its meaning & [name_m]Craig[/name_m] or [name_m]Clark[/name_m] for their sound.
Favourite one-syllable boy names of mine:
[name_m]Colm[/name_m]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
Well I have a major crush on the name [name_m]Clark[/name_m] so that is my top pick. Goes well enough with both siblings. I also like [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u]. I think all of your middle names go well with any of the first names. [name_m]Clark[/name_m] [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is my favourite though.
[name_m]Drake[/name_m] and [name_m]Clark[/name_m] are my favorites on your list. I love single syllable names for boys! Especially some unusual ones…
[name_u]Reeve[/name_u]
[name_m]Thane[/name_m] [name_m]Trent[/name_m] [name_u]Tate[/name_u] Thrace
[name_m]Gage[/name_m]
[name_u]Leith[/name_u]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m] (or as a nn for [name_u]Everett[/name_u])
[name_m]Thad[/name_m] (or as a nn for [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m])
[name_u]True[/name_u] (or as a nn for [name_m]Truman[/name_m])
[name_u]Slate[/name_u]
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_m]Keith[/name_m] [name_m]Knute[/name_m] [name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_u]Paine[/name_u] [name_m]Fritz[/name_m] (only would use as middles)
[name_u]Dean[/name_u] - Like, but a bit Supernatural.
[name_u]Max[/name_u] - Like, but over-popular.
[name_m]Craig[/name_m] - Dislike, very dated.
[name_m]Drake[/name_m] - Dislike
[name_u]Drew[/name_u] - Like a lot.
[name_m]Clark[/name_m] - Like.
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - [name_f]Love[/name_f], but is trendy.
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]/[name_u]Reed[/name_u] - Prefer [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] or [name_m]Rhett[/name_m].
My favourite one-syllable names not on your list, in roughly the order of my preference:
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] - my absolute favourite
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Clay[/name_m] - I get a new-spiritual feel from this. It feels nature-y and religious.
[name_m]John[/name_m] - So out of style, but I have an affection for it. I find [name_m]Johnny[/name_m]/[name_m]Jack[/name_m] both cute as nicks, too.
[name_u]Shane[/name_u] - Cowboy to me.
[name_m]Luke[/name_m] - But very popular, as are [name_u]Luca[/name_u]/[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] etc. all going by [name_m]Luke[/name_m].
[name_m]Cael[/name_m]
[name_u]Ash[/name_u] - Like it, but prefer [name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m] - Would be ranked a lot higher on its own merits, but I’m not a fan of Gone With The Wind.
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is my favorite one syllable name but from your list [name_m]Clark[/name_m] is my favorite. I love the name [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] from your mn options.
I love [name_u]Drew[/name_u]! My short list was actually between [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and [name_u]Reid[/name_u], and we went with [name_u]Reid[/name_u].
I’m a big fan of [name_m]Clark[/name_m]. I also really love [name_u]Reid[/name_u], but if one parent has bad associations, it’s best to stay away from that. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Drake[/name_m] are too trendy in my opinion, [name_m]Craig[/name_m] sounds dated. [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and [name_u]Max[/name_u] are OK.
Well men are so silly sometimes.
I really like [name_u]Max[/name_u] though. (Would consider a longer version myself if we didn’t have two little [name_u]Max[/name_u]'s in the family already - Dr. Seuss never wrote about Thing Three so wouldn’t want to risk that. ;)) I also really like [name_m]Clark[/name_m].
[name_u]Dean[/name_u], [name_m]Craig[/name_m], [name_m]Drake[/name_m], [name_u]Drew[/name_u], [name_u]Finn[/name_u] & [name_u]Reid[/name_u]/[name_u]Reed[/name_u] are either nms or feel too trendy/nny for your sib-set.
Other suggestions: (I went to babynames.com their advanced search allows you to search by syllables - unlike NB it actually sticks to 1 syllable instead of doing 2 - I pulled out ones I thought would be great with [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and underlined my favorites). [name_u]Brice[/name_u]/[name_m]Bruce[/name_m] ([name_m]Bruce[/name_m] could be easy to convince a man of I feel: I’m just saying: Batman)
[name_m]Clint[/name_m] (though this might be weird with [name_m]Grant[/name_m])
[name_m]Clive[/name_m]/[name_m]Clyde[/name_m]
[name_m]Floyd[/name_m]/[name_m]Lloyd[/name_m]
[name_m]Hans[/name_m]
[name_m]Garth[/name_m]
Gates
[name_u]Gene[/name_u]
[name_m]Ken[/name_m]/[name_m]Kent[/name_m] (though [name_m]Kent[/name_m] might be weird with [name_m]Grant[/name_m])
Morse [name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]
