If it was all up to your SO...

What names would be on your list, or what names would your children have, if the choices were all left up to your significant other?

If it had been up to my husband, our kids would be named: [name]Keith[/name], [name]Kayla[/name], and [name]Ellery[/name]. shudder

Love this question! I love hearing about other peoples SO’s name likes. I have to say I much prefer Oakley over Keith any day.

I just asked SO today what his favourite names were, he said “Nathan/Nathaniel, Kol, and Lucas” and that he’d have to get back to me on others he forgot. I know that he LOVES Victoria, is fond of Jenna, and asked me about Aurelia before too. And Taylor he’s liked for a girl for years now.

I don’t know if he’d go geeky on me and name them something that relates to his love of history or star wars (a la Mara Jade), or if he’d be more realistic and go for Nathan and Jenna or something.

I’m extremely lucky though, he likes most of the names I suggest, and the ones he says are his favourite are already on the list.
He’s mentioned some really NMS names before, Theodosius is one I remember atm.
I know that he wants to avoid E and M names though, there’s a bunch of those in his family already.

Haha, I’m sure this is a real concern for many a mom. Although I think Eisley could make a really cool name for a little girl (doesn’t hurt that I love the band that goes by the same name).

I think my husband would likely come up with a blend of [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings/traditional Welsh and Irish/Scottish names. Which sound so silly to me with our extremely [name]German[/name] last name, despite our largely Irish/English heritage. I’m not sure why it bothers me so much, actually.

[name]LOVE[/name] this question!

For the most part, our styles are similar. We both love names from the 1890s-1920s best. But he is fine with names being much more popular than I (being named [name]Justin[/name] in the 80s apparently did him just fine). He really liked [name]Lillian[/name] after his grandma, but I dislike [name]Lily[/name], and we already know three [name]Lila[/name]'s very close to our family.
He also liked [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], which I nixed, but think are pretty. He loved [name]Ruby[/name] best on our daughters short list, but with 8 weeks to go our friend had a daughter named [name]Ruby[/name] and I freaked out and she ended up [name]Vivienne[/name]. He also has a weird love for the name [name]Roxanne[/name]… which is not either of our styles.
For the most part, he is a good sport & let’s me push him in a slightly more adventurous direction. Hes approved [name]Dorothea[/name] & [name]Theodora[/name] when I never thought he would. He’s not afraid to veto, though, and has gotten rid of almost all of my super French names: [name]Amity[/name],
[name]Amelie[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Colette[/name], [name]Cosette[/name], [name]Delphine[/name], etc.
He does have a thing for Greek-by-way-of-[name]Britain[/name] names… I think [name]Daphne[/name] & [name]Allegra[/name] are his faves.
And of course… once in a while he tries to sneak a video game character in there, but (I hope) he’s joking

[name]Liam[/name] & [name]Olivia[/name]

My hubby kept repeating [name]Legend[/name] as his name of choice for our first. I told him it was rediculous and vetoed it early on. But then when we were at the hospital in labor, he joked with the nurse about naming our son [name]Legend[/name] and she said someone had named their kid that a few weeks prior. She thought it was cool and said we should reconsider our naming choice. I could have slapped her for saying that! (we did not name him [name]Legend[/name], by the way)

Well…he did pick [name]Leonie[/name]! I had mentioned it, but he got way more into.it! He loved [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Ulysses[/name]& [name]Cassius[/name] for a boy.

He also loves [name]Jolene[/name].

I think his boy names are a bit epic and have heavy associations, but I like his taste alright. He likes names that he finds unique. He would veto [name]Anna[/name] but go for [name]Althea[/name].

We are in agreement about at least one boy and one girl name, thank goodness, but he has suggested some interesting little numbers.

Laser, [name]Cain[/name], Meridian. (these are the NOT the ones we have agreed on! :))

DH and i were just discussing this. i made him look on nameberry and he came up with
[name]Azrael[/name]
Balthezar
[name]Clovis[/name]

randomly
[name]Connor[/name]

and the only one we agree on
[name]Ephraim[/name]

hes difficult

Oh gosh, [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings…that’s a fandom that he’d likely suggest from. And his surname is [name]German[/name] or Polish…not sure which exactly, so I can completely relate to you there. Lol

Wait a minute, am I reading your signature right? Did you just have a baby YESTERDAY, MissMadness? Congratulations!
I much prefer your kids names over your SO’s choices!

We don’t have children yet, but my hubby loves common 90s names like [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Emily[/name], and [name]Katie[/name]. I do not!

My SO refuses to discuss names because he thinks that will increase my baby-fever. (His mother recently died and he’s refusing to discuss bigger family related things at all right now - which I understand considering how close they were).
But I have a feeling that he’d follow his families traditions of names that all fall within the top 100 of the timeless names like [name]Anne[/name], [name]Christina[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]Steven[/name], ect. I’m hoping he’ll be open to considering something a little more adventerous most importantly to me in the classic, vintage direction.

No kids yet but [name]Martin[/name] (OH) is all over the place.
Boys:
[name]Dmitri[/name]
[name]Sascha[/name]
[name]Sergei[/name]
[name]Brian[/name]
[name]James[/name]
Ninja
Claymore
[name]Dante[/name]
[name]Virgil[/name]

Girls:
[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Natalya[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Starr[/name]
[name]Snow[/name]
[name]Lilith[/name]

My boyfriend couldn’t care less about names, hahaha. We’ve only talked about names once before (we’re only 16, so not pregnant, not trying to be pregnant, not even close to accidentally getting pregnant or anything of the sort) and I told him my favorites, and he said, “Yeah. I like those.” So…I think that to him, it doesn’t really matter, as long as he doesn’t totally hate it.

My husband jokingly (?) suggested we name our twin boys [name]Thor[/name] and [name]Loki[/name]. Once that combination was rejected, it was followed up by a slew of additional famous pairs, most from comics. sigh
Once I got him to be serious his top names were [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Marcus[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Darren[/name], [name]Calvin[/name], [name]Drew[/name], [name]Neal[/name], and [name]Luke[/name]. (As a comparison here is a sample from my list: [name]Graham[/name], [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Alden[/name], [name]Axel[/name], [name]Paxton[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Ansel[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], and [name]William[/name])

[name]Thor[/name] & [name]Loki[/name], that’s a good one!

What my boyfriend really wants…
[name]Bob[/name], [name]Dylan[/name], [name]Bruce[/name], [name]Leonard[/name], [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Frank[/name], [name]Lennon[/name], [name]Roscoe[/name], [name]Kurt[/name], [name]Justin[/name], [name]Vernon[/name], [name]Lewis[/name] for a boy or [name]Marianne[/name], [name]Beth[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Prudence[/name], [name]Sheena[/name], [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Athena[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Daisy[/name] for a girl; names from musicians and songs.

he’s got pretty decent taste though, these are some of his favourites (non-music related):
[name]Jude[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Marlowe[/name], [name]Wilfred[/name], [name]Winston[/name], [name]Finn[/name], [name]Ivan[/name] for boys and [name]Aura[/name], [name]Hedda[/name], [name]Isobel[/name], [name]Tess[/name], [name]Ana[/name]ïs, [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Fern[/name], [name]Malou[/name] for girls.

Yep, [name]Eowyn[/name] and [name]Arwen[/name] were very serious suggestions submitted by him as middle names. And he probably would have lobbied for the as first names if we hadn’t agreed on [name]Ivy[/name] from the get-go. [name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong, I love me some LOTR/fantasy names, it’s just a lot of character association to saddle your kid with!

Yes, I did. Thank you! It was an extremely quick birth at home, so I’m recovering well. Thanks again, I agree, his choices are not my thing.

I don’t eve know what he’d call them! He had no ideas of his own! We’re expecting our first and my husband is DEFINITELY excited but names suggestions aren’t how he shows his excitement. At this stage, he much prefers to hear my suggestions and then say yes or no. I don’t think he loves coming up with ideas for names on his own, but who knows…perhaps when I’m further along and it feels more real to him, he’ll come up with a few.

Either way, it’s fine. If he has suggestions, I’ll listen and add them to the list. Right now, it’s easier for me to be the creative one.
