Girl list is all messy! I’m having such a difficult time with this list, it’s not even fun anymore. I’d like to narrow it down to between 5 and 10, so I can focus on imagining them on my little one. I’m also starting to feel iffy about repeating first initials… Also, if anyone has super adorable nickname suggestions for Hespera, [name]Morgana[/name], Estatira and [name]Eurydice[/name] I’d be happy, cause I’ve got nothing…
[name]Zenobia[/name] still my favorite and your nn option are perfect.
[name]Morgana[/name]
[name]Circe[/name]
[name]Eurydice[/name]
Tinuviel (Nuvi is a precious nn)
Nicknames are tough for me as I feel they develop naturally after you meet a person, so I can’t help you there.
As always, your lists are so much fun and are distracting me from figuring out where to seat all my in-laws at the reception. I should have eloped. Lol
Hespera - [name]Eppy[/name], Seppa, Seppy, H.
[name]Morgana[/name] - Well, you know mine is called Moose But we also call her Morgs, [name]Mo[/name]-eggs and Moggs. I guess you could do [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Em[/name] as well.
Estatira - [name]Tiara[/name], [name]Atty[/name], Teary, Tirry, [name]Tess[/name], [name]Essa[/name], Star.
[name]Eurydice[/name] - [name]Cece[/name], Cissy, Deedee.
[name]Hope[/name] that was of some help my lovely
From your list I’d keep…
Andromeda
Belphoebe (Bee)
Estatira
Hespera
Pandora or Pandeia (Panda)
Aphrodite and Pandeia is still my favourite Andromeda comes close but it feels ‘strong’ to me. It’s a good thing, obviously but with Aphrodite I get a ‘pretty AND strong’ feeling and I felt like her sister should match. Pandeia gives me the ‘pretty and strong’ image. Estatira is close too.
What a wonderful list [name]Ottilie[/name]! I’ve always been a lurker of your threads. I love all of the names on your list, but if I had to pick favourites, they would be, (in order):
Hespera (I recently fell in love with Hesper/Hespera nn [name]Essie[/name])
[name]Pandora[/name] or Pandeia (Panda) - this has the same feel as [name]Aphrodite[/name], yet seems bouncier and just feels ‘little sister’ ish, to me. The nn Panda is adorable.
Polyhymnia/Polymnia ([name]Polly[/name]/[name]Pom[/name]) - this is my first choice, actually. I think it is ‘heavy yet magical’ like big sis, a ‘WOW’ name NO [name]ONE[/name] else will have, and the nn’s are cute. And the name is fun to say, as is [name]Aphrodite[/name]!
Tinuviel ([name]Tiny[/name]/Nuvi) - this is pretty, and interesting, and the nn’s are cute, but something about it feels too wispy, name-wise, next to big sis, to me.
[name]Zenobia[/name] ([name]Bee[/name]/Bia/Nobi/[name]Zoe[/name]) - this matches very well, I like the A and Z together, and the nn’s are cute.
Some of your other names seem too ‘mainstream’ to me. [name]Penelope[/name] will be very popular and ‘normal’ within a few years or a decade, I think. And Belphoebe, while a great match with [name]Aphrodite[/name] and a personal favorite, I still think will be lumped in with the copious [name]Belle[/name]'s and [name]Bella[/name]'s and [name]Phoebe[/name]'s. Same with [name]Morgana[/name] and Gwenllian. I like them a lot, but there are SO many little [name]Morgan[/name]'s and [name]Gwen[/name]'s already running around the playgrounds. These names lack enough of the ‘singularity’ factor to hold their own with big sis, imo.
Hespera- [name]Essie[/name]
[name]Morgana[/name]- Morgy (a good friend of mine goes by this, and it is SO cute!)
Estatira- [name]Essie[/name], Tatty
[name]Eurydice[/name]- RiRi (RiRi and Roo! [name]How[/name] adorable is that?), Dissy
[name]Andromeda[/name]- Too much with [name]Aphrodite[/name].
[b]Belphoebe /b- [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Circe[/name]- Nice. Perfect as a middle.
Estatira- Too much, I think.
[name]Eurydice[/name]- [name]Aphrodite[/name] is fresh and wonderfully clunky, but this just seems clunky.
Gwenllian ([name]Gwen[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name])- [name]Gwen[/name] or [name]Winnie[/name] might sound too serious with Roo, but the name itself is pretty.
Hespera- Like, but feels plain next to [name]Aphrodite[/name]. [name]Iphigenia[/name] ([name]Genie[/name])- Incredible! I love it!
[b]Melpomene /b- [name]Pom[/name] and Roo? Perfection!!!
[name]Morgana[/name]- See Hespera.
[name]Pandora[/name] or Pandeia (Panda)- These are nice, but not perfect.
[name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Pom[/name])- [name]Way[/name] plain next to [name]Aphrodite[/name].
Polyhymnia/Polymnia ([name]Polly[/name]/[name]Pom[/name])- Okay.
Tinuviel ([name]Tiny[/name]/Nuvi)- Nice name, but it’s no [name]Aphrodite[/name]. [name]Zenobia[/name] ([name]Bee[/name]/Bia/Nobi/[name]Zoe[/name])- This is the BEST, by far. I lovelovelove this name with [name]Aphrodite[/name].
I put my top 4 in bold. Oh, and another name (though this might be too plain or religious to you) is Lilith. In the Bible, she was turned into a demon for refusing to submit to Adam. A terrible fate, but strong woman.
[name]Penelope[/name] - a bit more normal than your other names, but it’s in my Top 5 and goes well with [name]Aphrodite[/name]
[name]Morgana[/name] - The one nickname that immediately came to mind was Gaga, but it seems such a shame to shorten [name]Morgana[/name] to something so silly. Maybe [name]Mora[/name]?
[name]Andromeda[/name] - Ooh, a new one. Really like it!
[name]Circe[/name]
[name]Pandora[/name]/Pandeia - But I still prefer [name]Pandora[/name]
Melpomene - I went to Forvo to hear how this was pronounced, and now I quite like it! It didn’t sound as pretty the way I thought it was said.
[name]Eurydice[/name]
Hespera - What about [name]Essie[/name] as a nickname?
Gwenllian
Tinuviel - Still prefer this in the middle, though.
These are some seriously beautiful names! I love the imagery I am getting from them. These are my particular favorites.
[name]Circe[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] and so intriguing
Gwenllian ([name]Gwen[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]) - I love these NNs
[name]Iphigenia[/name] ([name]Genie[/name]) - So gorgeous and sounds wonderful with [name]Aphrodite[/name]
[name]Morgana[/name] - I love this one as well for the image it gives. I can visualize all names but I see this one so vividly
[name]Pandora[/name] - Such a fun name and feels like the perfect match to [name]Aphrodite[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Pom[/name]) - very lovely and I adore the nn [name]Poppy[/name] but it does feel a bit off next to [name]Aphrodite[/name]
[name]Zenobia[/name] ([name]Bee[/name]/Bia/Nobi/[name]Zoe[/name]) - Generally I am not a big fan of this name but the NNs make it feel so much easier to wear
Belphoebe (included in the Top 5 I chose from your last list–lovely. Gorgeous. Pretty with [name]Aphrodite[/name].)
[name]Circe[/name] (also on my earlier list–you’ve loved her too long to not have her on your shortlist)
Hespera (I remember this from Roo’s naming journey, and I thought it was lovely. [name]Aphrodite[/name] sounds like morning and Hespera like evening.)
Polyhymnia (just 'cause I love it! I think if anyone can use it, you can. I prefer the longer version.)
Tinuviel (so, so beautiful…[name]Tiny[/name] and Nuvi are very cute)
I think [name]Essie[/name] is an adorable nickname, and I see it working for Hespera, Estatira or [name]Eurydice[/name]. [name]Eppie[/name] for Hespera is cute too, and maybe [name]Dessie[/name] for [name]Eurydice[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Meg[/name]/[name]Meggie[/name] for [name]Morgana[/name]? [name]Meg[/name] strikes me as both cute and strong. [name]Annie[/name] could work, too, though I’m not sure it’s your style.
Yay, even more Otter lists! For the sake of the naming world, I hope you don’t stop at two kids.
[name]Andromeda[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my long-time loves, but I share your concerns about first initial repeating. My sister and one of my brothers have the same exact initials, which is weird and occasionally confusing. Belphoebe - I’ve already gushed about this one on your other thread. So, to sum things up, it’s extremely gush-worthy and probably my favorite from your list.
[name]Circe[/name] - Eh. I find the sound a bit awkward, and while the mythological figure is a great counterpart to [name]Aphrodite[/name], she’s definitely more of an outright villain.
Estatira - Never heard this one before. I like it!
[name]Eurydice[/name] - Ugh. [name]One[/name] of the few Greek names I just can’t stand. Partially because of the unpleasant-sounding first syllable, and partially because I went on a field trip with my Close [name]Reading[/name] class to see a dreadful stage adaptation of the myth that was basically just Waiting for Godot mixed with Our Town.
Gwenllian - Yes. Pick this one. The world needs more Gwens. I’m lonely.
Hespera - On the fence about this one. It’s pretty, but I can’t seem to like the majority of H-names. [name]Iphigenia[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]. This one has been flitting around my head all week–I was editing the footage of my theater company’s Women of [name]Troy[/name] and got completely distracted reading the Iliad and [name]Iphigenia[/name] at Aulis. If you don’t mind the sacrifice thing, then Polyxena’s a lovely option that I think is a bit more wearable than the [equally lovely] Polyhymnia.
Melpomene - [name]Love[/name] [name]Pom[/name], less enthusiastic about Melpomene. The sound is just so-so.
[name]Morgana[/name] - Eh. Feels less interesting than your other options. [name]Pandora[/name] - Pandeia is nice, I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Pandora[/name] and Panda. They’re just so fun.
[name]Penelope[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], but getting really popular, and [name]Poppy[/name] makes me cringe.
Polyhymnia/Polymnia - These are both growing on me. I think they’re totally wearable with the multiple nn options.
Tinuviel - Gorgeous, but I wouldn’t want to be nicknamed [name]Tiny[/name]. [name]Zenobia[/name] - Dripping with spunk and a subtle elegance. Goes perfectly with [name]Aphrodite[/name]. Would be excellent.
Your lists are always so intreageing - I feel like I need to google half these names and discover the stories accociated with them!
As for nicknames the first one I thought of for Hespera was [name]Peri[/name] / [name]Pari[/name] (fairy/ spirit in Persian)
[name]Morgana[/name], could be [name]Mo[/name] or [name]Anna[/name]/ [name]Ana[/name]
Estatira love the suggestion of [name]Star[/name]! name][name]Eurydice[/name][/name] ([name]Di[/name], [name]Uri[/name], [name]Cece[/name])
My top five are:
Gwenllian
[name]Morgana[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] (I know a [name]Penelope[/name] who went by [name]Loulou[/name])
[name]Zenobia[/name]
And it was really hard to decide between Hespera and [name]Circe[/name] but Hespera won as I know she / he is a winter baby and [name]Circe[/name] is golden and warm for me, where as Hespera feels more like winter sunshine, warm, but subdued, fresh and bright and happy.
[name]Andromeda[/name] - Great name, I like it too, but will forever be on GP list, I think
Belphoebe ([name]Bee[/name]) - [name]LOVE[/name] Belphoebe! But I can’t imagine it for wintery frost, sorry. I imagine green/golden forest, etc. Belphoebe’s perfect for summer born, imo.
[name]Circe[/name] - not my fav character, but I like it for you.
Estatira - [name]Estee[/name]? [name]Tira[/name]? [name]Tara[/name]? [name]Esa[/name]? Never heard about this one before, I like it.
[name]Eurydice[/name] - [name]Yuri[/name]? I think it’s cute
Gwenllian ([name]Gwen[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]) - Nice
Hespera - Always love Hespera since the first time I saw it on your list for Roo. I think about springtime though…
[name]Iphigenia[/name] ([name]Genie[/name]) - I like it. [name]Genie[/name]'s cute, but I guess I like Iphi (If-fee) better.
Melpomene ([name]Pom[/name]) - Same issue, spring/summer image in my head.
[name]Morgana[/name] - [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Mori[/name]/Momo? I like Momo.
[name]Pandora[/name] or Pandeia (Panda) - As someone who is literally look like panda (the eyes, you know). I find Panda as a nn is cute and not so good at the same time. I prefer [name]Pandora[/name] as mn.
[name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Poppy[/name] or [name]Pom[/name]) - Not sure
Polyhymnia/Polymnia ([name]Polly[/name]/[name]Pom[/name]) - dislike, sorry.
Tinuviel ([name]Tiny[/name]/Nuvi) - Cutest lotr name ever.
[name]Zenobia[/name] ([name]Bee[/name]/Bia/Nobi/[name]Zoe[/name]) - dislike, sorry.
[name]Andromeda[/name]
Belphoebe (mostly because of the nickname [name]Bee[/name])
Gwenllian
[name]Pandora[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
Tinuviel
[name]Zenobia[/name] (again - [name]Bee[/name] is adorable!)
As for nicknames for Hespera, [name]Morgana[/name], Estatira, and [name]Eurydice[/name]…
Your girl’s names are so exciting. My top five are:
Belphoebe ([name]Bee[/name]) - I just love the name and the nn
Hespera - [name]Peri[/name] - okay, I’m in love with my own nn suggestion, I admit it
[name]Morgana[/name] - Still think this one is great
[name]Pandora[/name] or Pandeia (Panda) - Either one is cool but I lean towards Pandeia
[name]Zenobia[/name] ([name]Bee[/name]/Bia/Nobi/[name]Zoe[/name]) - This is my new favorite - The more I hear it the more I love it! I like the nn Bia and Zebby
[name]Andromeda[/name]
[name]Morgana[/name]: I love [name]Morgana[/name] & [name]Aphrodite[/name] together.
[name]Pandora[/name]/Pandeia: It’s crazy, because my best friend calls me [name]Pandora[/name], and he also shortens it to Panda
Tinuviel: This name is so much fun to say. (I keep mouthing it, I think my brother thinks I’m crazy). Haha, AND the nickname [name]Tiny[/name] is adorable.
[name]Zenobia[/name]: [name]Love[/name] nickname [name]Bee[/name]
With [name]Aphrodite[/name], my favorites:
[name]Aphrodite[/name] & [name]Pandora[/name] (though, I like Pandeia more)
[name]Aphrodite[/name] & [name]Morgana[/name]
[name]Aphrodite[/name] & Hespera
Also, somebody already mentioned this, but [name]Penelope[/name] is extremely mainstream, and Belphoebe’s borderline mainstream with “[name]Phoebe[/name]” & “[name]Bella[/name]”. Compared to the not-so-mainstream [name]Goddess[/name] of love and beauty, your little [name]Penelope[/name] might feel a little inadequate.
I said I will probably be late and I am late. Yay for shortened list Otter!
Top 5 with my name visions:
Gwenllian - [name]Gwen[/name] all the way! I think it has it all - familiar [name]Gwen[/name] nickname and sleek full form. As I already mentioned, Gwenllian and [name]Aphrodite[/name] are different enough to compliment each other.
1.1 Gwenllian = sparkling tiara, orange and crimson afterglow, impregnable fortress of stone and a beautiful woman riding a horse in the boundless field.
Belphoebe - ditto Gwenllian but I slightly prefer [name]Gwen[/name] to [name]Bee[/name] so it’s #2.
2.1 Belphoebe = gray musline and yards of lace, predawn glory and apple trees in blossom.
[name]Pandora[/name] - Panda is adorable! The story of [name]Pandora[/name] isn’t my absolute favorite but the name has fun and beauty.
3.1 [name]Pandora[/name] = freckles and long braids of curly hair, bright-green lea covered with camomiles and bluebells all over, little feet and mottled butterflies.
Hespera - [name]Princess[/name] [name]Essie[/name]! Yay-yay, fitting with Roo for 100%. I remember you mentioned Hespera among your long-time favorites, it’s time to use it finally! I think you should definitely use it - either for first or for one of the middles.
4.1 Hespera = twinkling evening stars in the ink-blue velvet sky, calla lilies, dancing little fairies, haze of mist around the pond…
Melpomene - Roo and [name]Pom[/name]! Gives me enough inspiration to write a children book about two adorable little sisters. Melpomene is probably my favorite muse name, bright and lux and fun.
Melpomene = wreaths of ivy and , tears of happiness, spellbinding melodies, masks and satin gowns…
For the difficult nicknaming names:
Hespera nn [name]Peri[/name] or [name]Essie[/name], [name]Morgana[/name] nn …I got nothing, Estatira nn [name]Estie[/name] or [name]Ari[/name] (last three letters backwards) and [name]Eurydice[/name] nn Eury (if its pronounced like Yoo-ree)
