[name]Hi[/name] I just posted a thread in the boys section too. I have chosen the name [name]Edwin[/name] for a boy after my fiance who passed away a week before I found out I was expecting. For a girl i’d love to honor him too so I’ve been trying to find a way to do so.
[name]Edwina[/name] - I’m not a fan of this but it honors him perfectly. I would probably use it as a middle name though because I’m not that keen on it. It seems very dated and there doesnt seem to be a alternative nickname that I could use.
As his full name was [name]Edwin[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Paul[/name], I was thinking of [name]Alexandra[/name] or [name]Paula[/name]. [name]Paula[/name] i’m not that keen on either but I love [name]Alexandra[/name] & [name]Alexandria[/name] so they are top contenders.
He went by [name]Win[/name] most of the time so I was considering Elowyn & [name]Winter[/name].
So the list that could honor him as a first name is:
[name]Alexandria[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name]
Elowyn
[name]Winter[/name]
And as middle names:
[name]Edwina[/name]
[name]Paula[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name] (sounds like [name]Paul[/name]?)
I was considering Elowyn [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] because it sounds very similar to [name]Edwin[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Paul[/name], would that work? I think it’s a top contender for me right now.
Anyway, I would love some combinations suggestions or name suggestions that could honor my late fiance in some way!
Elowyn [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - I love Elowyn, it has something whimsical about it
[name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Winter[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - [name]Alexandra[/name] is a pretty name and has the nn potential of [name]Allie[/name] (if you are into that) and combined with [name]Winter[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name] it sounds lovely
[name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Winter[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], as PP suggested, sounds best [name]IMO[/name]. It honours your fiancé but there’s enough individuality in there for her to make it her own.
I would, however, advise against Elowyn. This spelling annoys me a little, sorry. Mostly, it doesn’t make sense and it’s made up. The real name is [name]Elowen[/name], which is pronounced differently, so the changing of the ‘e’ to the ‘y’ is making up a new name. There is no ‘win’ sound in [name]Elowen[/name] either. And the ‘wyn’ ending does make me think of male Welsh names even though [name]Elowen[/name] is not Welsh. But if all that doesn’t bother you, go ahead!
I would suggest [name]Eowyn[/name] in its place. There’s always [name]Winnie[/name] and [name]Winona[/name] if you’d like to honour the ‘[name]Win[/name]’ nickname. [name]Eden[/name], [name]Edie[/name] could honour the ‘[name]Ed[/name]’ part of his name. Good luck with whichever you choose.
I love Elowyn [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], but I much prefer the traditional spelling [name]Elowen[/name]. [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]–it’s a beautiful name that honors a loved one! The previous poster said it is pronounced differently with this spelling, but i don’t know much about that-I’ve only heard [name]Elowen[/name] pn [name]ELL[/name]-oh-win (which is what you want.) And I agree that the name it sounds VERY similar to [name]Edwin[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Paul[/name], and that’s the connection you’re looking for!
I do also [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Eowyn[/name], as a previous poster suggested, and [name]Eowyn[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is lovely as well, but if you pick [name]Eowyn[/name] you have to be willing to deal with the [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings connection.
[name]Hi[/name] - I am so sorry for your loss. I do agree with the pp - [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is so beautiful and still honors your fiancé.
Thanks all! I did consider [name]Elowen[/name] too but I thought that the pronunciation of Elowyn would honour her father better. I always assumed that the ending of [name]Elowen[/name] was pronounced differently, more like the end of [name]Rowan[/name].
I love Elowyn/[name]Elowen[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] but like charlieandperry1 mentioned, I did also think that maybe its a little too close and that she needs some individuality. (I am naming it [name]Edwin[/name] if it’s a boy but with different middle names than my fiance had so it’s not exactly the same). I was thinking of using a first name that I love and using the middle names [name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name] so it still honours him.
My girls name list which doesn’t honour anyone is [name]Violet[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Lillian[/name] & [name]Rosalie[/name] and I think all of these will work with the middle names [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you all think that would work better? Being a girl myself I wouldn’t want a name that sounds identical to my fathers, even if I never met him (if that makes sense)
[name]How[/name] about [name]Edie[/name] (like [name]Edie[/name] Falco). I also like [name]Winter[/name] or [name]Wren[/name]. I’m also a big proponent of middle names for girls honoring men. For example [name]Winter[/name] [name]Edwyn[/name] …
I think any EAP combo would be a nice way to honor his memory for your daughter.
An alternative to [name]Edwina[/name] is [name]Edina[/name]. (Unless you live in the UK, in which case the [name]Edwina[/name]/[name]Edina[/name]/[name]Eddy[/name] Monsoon Absolutely Fabulous connotation would be too much.
I like Elowyn [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] a lot. I also love the name [name]Edith[/name] with the nickname [name]Edie[/name] (ee-dee) like [name]Edie[/name] Falco.
Other names that have a nice meaning:
[name]Abigail[/name]: Father’s joy
[name]Cleopatra[/name]: Father’s glory/pride (I love the nn [name]Cleo[/name])
Sorry for your loss.
I seem to be in the minority here, but I like [name]Winnifred[/name]. I think it is a cute name with the nickname [name]Winnie[/name]. I wish you all the best.
Good [name]Luck[/name]!
I do like [name]Edie[/name] but it seems to nicknamey for me but I am a fan of [name]Edith[/name] & [name]Eden[/name]! [name]Wren[/name] is also a good option, I never thought about [name]Wren[/name], I really like it.
I like the idea of having a name with a nice meaning, the meaning of [name]Abigail[/name] is perfect, I will definitely think about that one! [name]Winifred[/name] is lovely too!
Thanks to you all, I have plenty of new suggestions to think about here. I think the middle names will definitely be [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], mainly because they honour him even if I don’t pick a first name that honours him, but I also love the way they sound together.
[name]Eve[/name] is beautiful, I really like it! I like the suggestions of [name]Winona[/name], [name]Winter[/name] & [name]Alexa[/name] too, they’re all beautiful.
I’ll sleep on all of these wonderful suggestions tonight and have a think about them! I truly love them all, I can’t thank you all enough.
I think I’ve settled on the middle names [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], so now I just need to decide on a first name which I don’t feel that I need to finalize until the baby is born (it might not even be a girl) but I’d still like a solid list of contenders for when it’s born! The name Elowyn [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is stunning but I can’t help but feel that it’s maybe a little too close considering all of the names are practically the same (even though it is honoring him, it’s a little to close).
