[name]Hi[/name] Berries,
I need some help! DH and I are still discussing names and we both like [name]Peri[/name] (or possibly [name]Perri[/name]) for a girl. But to me this is more of a nickname and ideally I would like a full name with [name]Peri[/name] as a nickname. I also had [name]Matilda[/name] picked out as a middle name- not sure if this goes well with [name]Peri[/name] ([name]Peri[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]??) but might go better with a longer name.
So my questions are:
What names can become [name]Peri[/name] as a nickname? I am not a fan of [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Perdita[/name], [name]Peridot[/name] (pronunciation problems although having the possibility of nn [name]Dot[/name] as well is very cute). I’d be happy with a name where the nickname is not entirely obvious e.g. the way that [name]Lorelai[/name] becomes [name]Rory[/name]. Any suggestions?
What about a hyphen name e.g., [name]Peri[/name]-[name]Anna[/name]? It’s not my usual style but I’d be happy to consider ideas along this line, so any ideas for names that might work? Or opinions on having a hyphen name with [name]Peri[/name] at the start (I don’t think it works well in the second position but I’ll take suggestions!)
This might be a stretch… [name]Juniper[/name] (juni[name]PER[/name]) I know it’s kind of a different sound, but the letters are there and [name]Juniper[/name] is an adorable name
Perenelle (wife of alchemist [name]Nicolas[/name] Flamel)
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] (maybe a bit of a stretch?)
[name]Parisa[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Priscilla[/name]
I’m sad you don’t like [name]Peridot[/name], it would be perfect for nn [name]Peri[/name], [name]Dot[/name] is precious, and it’s a beautiful gem. I don’t think it would have that many pronunciation issues, maybe the occasional correction but it’s not totally unheard of or anything.
Not a fan of [name]Peri[/name] on its own, or [name]Peri[/name]-[name]Anna[/name]…
[name]Don[/name]'t have any other suggestions but I just want to say that [name]Peri[/name] is great. My guinea pig who passed away a couple of weeks ago was called [name]Peri[/name] and it made me smile to see her name being considered for a baby.
[name]Perri[/name] is cute with a lovely sound, but my vote is definitely for two Rs.
[name]Peri[/name] is a Greek prefix meaning about or around, which could be boring like perimeter or icky in a medical context. Apparently the [name]Peri[/name] were also Persian mythological beings, descendants of fallen angels.
[name]Love[/name] the suggestions of [name]Perrine[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Pernelle[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name]. However, if you decide on using it as a full name, I highly suggest you spell it [name]Perrie[/name] (or [name]Perry[/name], if you must): names ending in “i” often look cutesy and unprofessional (think [name]Terri[/name], [name]Luci[/name], [name]Kerri[/name]…).
[name]Love[/name] the idea of the hyphen! [name]Perri[/name] sounds a lot like [name]Mary[/name] so it works nicely in double combinations. [name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Anna[/name] or [name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Matilda[/name] are great!
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Louise[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]
[name]Parrie[/name]-[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Hope[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Olivia[/name]
Periwinkle is what I thought of when I read your post title. It sounds like [name]Perry[/name] which makes me think of the trendy boys turned girls nicknames like [name]Charlie[/name], just something to consider.
I am not a fan of [name]Peri[/name] on its own or in hyphenated form.
[name]Matilda[/name] is a lovely name, [name]Millie[/name], [name]Tilly[/name] or [name]Tilda[/name] are also very cute nn. Do you not like it as a first with something that you can derive [name]Peri[/name] from in the middle?
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] (and all the potential nicknames!) but there are a few reasons I’d hesitate to use it. [name]One[/name] is that there is a cousin with that name (that said, we don’t see them often and this cousin is in her teens so not necessarily a HUGE problem). The main one though is the popularity here (Australia) has been quite high over the past few years, although I can’t with a quick search work out the current popularity it was in the top 20 in 2011. So at the moment I think I’d rather it as a middle. My mum who has a strong affinity to [name]Matilda[/name] would probably use [name]Tilly[/name] for the baby no matter what we called it- this is part of the reason I want to use it because she was nn [name]Tilly[/name] as a child herself by a dear family friend, and it’s a very happily associated name for her. So there are strong connections there but it would be just as good in the middle for that purpose.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I like [name]Juniper[/name] (nn [name]Juni[/name] is also adorable), [name]Piper[/name] (although this will be a hard sell, DH immediately thinks of Charmed!), [name]Penelope[/name] although agree that [name]Peri[/name]/[name]Perri[/name]/[name]Perrie[/name] is a bit of a stretch from there. [name]Priscilla[/name] I also like, and Casperia will probably be nixed as too out there for DH (worth a try though!)- how adorable, with [name]Cassie[/name] or [name]Perrie[/name] as nicknames- love it! For some reason [name]Petra[/name] is also resonating- I usually don’t like it as it just makes me think of [name]Peter[/name] but with nn [name]Perrie[/name] it’s growing on me! Of the hyphen names, I think [name]Perrie[/name]-[name]Elise[/name] is beautiful.
Keep them coming!
LOL at [name]Peri[/name] [name]Peri[/name] chicken, this did occur to me, but maybe with [name]Perrie[/name] or [name]Perri[/name] spelling it gets around this slightly? It is mostly the spelling that makes me think of it, personally.
[name]Just[/name] one more random thought… [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Elise[/name] would be cool because when you say them together, you kind of get the [name]Perri[/name] sound!
[name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Pricilla[/name] are my ideas. [name]Both[/name] are a bit of a stretch, but I think they work.
Something about [name]Peri[/name] in a double name seems off. Unexpected, but not in the way you’d want it. I like [name]Peri[/name], but as a nickname only
I always thought it was a clever nn for [name]Juniper[/name] which is adorable but [name]Junie[/name]/[name]June[/name]/[name]June[/name] bug are pretty adorable too!! I also really love [name]Petra[/name]… And perri is a great nn for [name]Petra[/name] along with petal [name]Pearl[/name] gets my third vote… I love this name!!
