If We Had a Third...Just for fun (for now)

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there Berries! You guys were so helpful over the years with naming my children, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Quinlan[/name_m] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], so I thought I’d post here because, even though my littlest guy is not quite 6 months old, I’ve been dreaming of a third (and final) baby. No idea if we’ll be able to go for it or not, but I’m already having a bit of trouble figuring out a third name, so I wanted to start brainstorming. At this point, with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m], we (clearly) have a nature theme going on that I’d like to continue, but I don’t want it to sound…like too much, or too matchy matchy, so I’d like to avoid other flower or mammal names. There’s one name that I think is kind of perfect, but it’s the name of a former friend’s kid (and we had a falling out many years ago and don’t ever see each other, but we have mutual friends, so if I could find a different name I like just as much, that would be great!) So I would love any new ideas or opinions on the ones I have.

Here’s what I’m thinking, girl name wise:

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (this is the name I’d like to avoid due to the former friend, but otherwise it feels perfect.)

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] (I worry since it’s connected to a flower as well as rainbows it’d be too matchy with [name_f]Rose[/name_f].)

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (not a flower, but I still worry it would be too much with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and it’s kind of popular, otherwise this is probably my second choice.)

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (I like that it’s not a flower, but it feels slightly off next to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m].)

[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (a constellation, so I don’t know if this fits exactly into nature names, or if it feels right.)

[name_f]Lark[/name_f] (I like this a lot but ideally I want something more in the between the traditional [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and more adventurous [name_m]Fox[/name_m].)

I also would consider [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] but it’s the name of one of our cats and my husband says that means we can’t use it, haha. Also, [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is the name of a friend’s kid, so that’s off the table. Are there any other nature names I’m missing? I would be open to using a name with a nature/word meaning, like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], but I don’t want it to feel totally out of left field with the other obvious nature names. Thoughts?

Any other ideas? Other info: our last name is similar to McKeely. If it helps at all in terms of overall style, if we were to have a third and it was a boy, it’d probably be [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u] or [name_u]Robin[/name_u]. (I’d want to avoid the R names since we already have an R kiddo, but my husband loves those two names.) I also love the name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but [name_u]Kit[/name_u] seems too similar to [name_m]Fox[/name_m] (and not similar enough to [name_f]Rose[/name_f].) I am…possibly overthinking this, haha. Anyway, thanks so much!

I wouldn’t use [name_u]Kit[/name_u] with [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. I believe “kit” is the word for a young fox. Actually, maybe that would be adorable for a youngest sibling? Especially with the full name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], so it’s more subtle?

From your list, my favorites are [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] (I disagree with you! [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] sound lovely together) and [name_f]Lark[/name_f].

Suggestions:

[name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Poesy[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f] (inspired by your [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]
[name_u]Finch[/name_u]

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], & [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] are my favorites with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m]!

Maybe…
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] - maybe too much with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] - means lover of horses

I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be lovely with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. If you want to keep with this one-syllable thing you have going, you might like [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Skye[/name_u], or something similar. But if you want something longer, I would suggest [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_u]Rainy[/name_u] (though you might not want another R name), [name_f]Flora[/name_f], or [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], like the tree.

For a boy, I would suggest [name_u]Lake[/name_u] or [name_m]Hill[/name_m], but I think the boy names you have picked out already are great.

[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Siena[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]

In my opinion, [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is amazing with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m].

I like the idea of a 1-2 syllable name with an O or O-sound in it. Some possibilities:

[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and

[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_u]Dove[/name_u]
[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Io[/name_f]
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]
[name_u]Love[/name_u]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]
[name_f]Maud[/name_f]
[name_f]Noa[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Ode[/name_f]
[name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]
[name_f]Thora[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Zora[/name_f]

I love all of the girls’ names you’ve put forward apart from [name_f]Lark[/name_f] (I just don’t love the sound) and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (although I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u]). Great options! With [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m], I’d find it difficult to choose which is best out of the following (basically most of the names you’ve suggested, so I’m not much help!):

[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] ([name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this combination)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] ([name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is such a great name and has fantastic nickname options)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] ([name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a contender for my DD due soon and works well with your other kids’ names)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (beautiful name and suits the others [name_f]IMO[/name_f])
[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] (it is getting popular but I don’t think it’s too much with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] personally)

I adore [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as well but as it’s another flower name I’d preference the others. With the issue of your ex-friend’s child having the name [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], you could instead go for [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Juno[/name_f]? I think both would work beautifully with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m].

Some other options (some nature-based, some not):

[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_f]Nella[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_u]Prairie[/name_u]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]
[name_f]Alba[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Bronte[/name_f]
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Poesy[/name_f]
[name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]

Of your boys’ names, I love [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u].

I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] on your list!! [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] too:)

I’d suggest:

[name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and…

[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

My first thought for you was [name_u]June[/name_u] - here’s why: it’s short and 1 syllable like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m], and while it’s a word name, it’s neither a plant nor an animal. Then when I saw you liked [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] but can’t really use it, [name_u]June[/name_u] seemed perfect. [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m] & [name_u]June[/name_u]. I love it.

A couple other ideas:

  • [name_f]Lark[/name_f]
  • [name_u]Wren[/name_u] - really like this one!
  • [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Willow[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Hope[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - I also disagree with you and think this totally works with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m].
  • [name_f]Stella[/name_f] - maybe too far off?
  • [name_f]Luna[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - ok I know it’s not a word name, but it’s similar to Island, which is a word! And it just felt like it needed to be suggested.
  • [name_u]Ever[/name_u]
  • [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

My favourites for you are [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Luna[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f]!

I like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] from your list, especially [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f]. I don’t think any of them are too much/too popular.

I really think [name_u]June[/name_u] could be a perfect fit for you, instead of [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (bonus if it’s a [name_u]June[/name_u] baby). Most Junipers I know end up being called [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Junie[/name_f], and you could still use both. Month names still feel like nature names to me, just like constellation names.

Aso, have you considered the more accessible month names? [name_f]May[/name_f] would also be an excellent fit, but I’m also fond of the less used [name_u]July[/name_u], [name_u]January[/name_u], and [name_f]October[/name_f]. I see you like [name_u]August[/name_u] for a boy, but it could also be used for a girl (for that matter, I think [name_u]River[/name_u] is also beautiful on a girl).

My last thoughts were [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Bay[/name_u], and [name_u]Lake[/name_u].

[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and [name_u]Clove[/name_u]!

I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! And [name_u]Juniper[/name_u].

From your list, my favourites are [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is cute, and I don’t think it’s too much with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I know a YouTuber who has a [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and an [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a classic, elegant name, but it’s a lot closer to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] than it is [name_m]Fox[/name_m].

My suggestion would be [name_u]Robin[/name_u]. It’s a sweet animal name, but more familiar than [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. Yes, it begins with an R, but I don’t think that’s a problem when you’ve got another child in the middle. First two children sharing a letter sets a pattern, 1 and 3 doesn’t.

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] is also a lovely name. I know some people like [name_u]River[/name_u], though I’m less of a fan. [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] is also in the middle of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Fox[/name_m] for how familiar/unusual it is.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_m]Fox[/name_m] & [name_f]Lark[/name_f] makes for a brilliant sibling trio. As you said, and I agree, [name_f]Lark[/name_f] bridges the gap well, between traditional [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and adventurous [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is a lovely little name which has the sweetness of [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and the zestiness of [name_m]Fox[/name_m]. All nature names, though very different from one another. Perfect.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m] are lovely. I adore [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] from your list. I think it’s just perfect. [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] & [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are getting popular, & [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] is a bit fancy next to the simple classic, [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I think that [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is nice. [name_f]Iris[/name_f] & [name_f]Lark[/name_f] are not my style, but they both work fine. I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] too, but for sure too much for [name_m]Fox[/name_m] unfortunately.

Here are a few more suggestions:

[name_f]Bee[/name_f]…but probably only as a nn. Would you do something like [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bee[/name_f], w/[name_f]Bee[/name_f] being the nature part?

[name_f]Cate[/name_f]-not a nature name, but similar to [name_u]Kit[/name_u] & perfect w/[name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_m]Fox[/name_m].

[name_f]Clover[/name_f]

[name_f]Calla[/name_f]-another flower…but only sort of. It seems like a nice fit.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]…sort of a flower.

[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]

[name_u]Skye[/name_u] (love this!)

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Thanks SO much for all of the feedback and the new suggestions too! Lots to think about. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see so many of you like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], since I do love that it fits the overall nature/word theme but is also different enough (i.e. not another flower, not another animal.) I was afraid it might not work stylistically, but glad to see that’s not the case! My husband loves the name too, so that’s a bonus.

[name_u]June[/name_u] is definitely another option we could consider - thanks for the suggestion. I do love how refreshing it is, and the simplicity of it - and it’s not as popular in my area as [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] (which is very popular at the moment, in addition to the issue with my former friend.)

I also like the suggestions of [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as well, and was just thinking about [name_f]Lila[/name_f] too (one meaning is “night” so I thought it might work.) All of the other suggestions were fantastic, just lots that my husband has vetoed ([name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f]) and other names of kiddos we know ([name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_u]Sky[/name_u].)

Anyway, lots to think about! I think from my original suggestions my current top three would be [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. And I’ll keep [name_f]Lark[/name_f] in mind as #4, and add [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] to the mix as well, to think about. Thanks again! This feels like a good updated list to start with.
