DH and I received the wonderful news a few weeks ago that I am pregnant, and so we have begun looking at our name lists again. We are, as of the moment, almost entirely decided on [name]Benjamin[/name] nn [name]Benji[/name] for a boy, and [name]Dorothea[/name] nn [name]Dotty[/name] for a girl, but we are open to more suggestions.
Our children our [name]Ambrosia[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name]; [name]Ambrosia[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name] go by [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Raffy[/name] almost the entire time. We would obviously only name our children something which we love, but it is also very important to us that any name have a nickname which we love equally, as that is what will be used predominantly - our families have long used the sort of names which make it sound as though you own a small county, and while we love names like … well, like [name]Ambrosia[/name], we prefer not to sound a little ridiculous every time we call our children for dinner.
So we are primarily looking for suggestions of nicknames which we may like, and then possible names which they could be used for.
Other than [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Dotty[/name], some hints as to our taste :
[name]Effie[/name] (DH won’t be won over)
[name]Maggie[/name] (DH loves [name]Margaret[/name], I am not enamoured)
[name]Pippi[/name] (I’m not a fan of [name]Philippa[/name]).
We love [name]Teddy[/name] for a boy, as well (can’t use due to theming issues), which seems to fit the pattern.
As you can see, the nicknames we tend to like are all two-syllable, ending in an -EE sound, and easy to say. A good consonant sound in the middle works nicely, Rs are a little too soft.
Thank you all in advance
