I’m looking for inspiration for the future… your all time favourite boys’ name? Perhaps the name that ticks more boxes than any other? I know it will be different for everyone so If you stopped to ask yourself ‘if I could only choose 1 name for 1 boy’ what would it be?
I would choose [name_u]Nico[/name_u], no doubt about it because of a cute little boy I used to babysit. I have loved that name since I was twelve and [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] sounds like a great professional name for when he grows up. It just seems like the perfect name with its trendy -o ending and something you can coo when he’s still a babe. No other name has come close to it.
Besides my son’s name, if I only have one more boy, it would be (at this moment) [name_m]Asher[/name_m]. My top three are [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], and [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m].
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m] - because it was my very first name crush. It’s a sweet and gentle name, with the relaxed, yet cool nickname [name_m]Josh[/name_m]. I also believe it should make a comeback. Right now it is dropping in popularity, still in the top 20 though, but I would adore to see it used on a baby! [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] is actually my boyfriend’s name and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] saying, and feel so blessed to have one in my life.
Fitting for a baby, adorable on a toddler, cool for a teen, and professional for an adult. Good Biblical name. No nickname that would be pretty much “destined” to have him known by (eg [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] with [name_u]Andy[/name_u] or [name_u]Drew[/name_u]), but plenty of nickname options if you want them.
[name_m]Marius[/name_m] technically checks more boxes. If my kids are growing up in a non-Anglophone country, [name_m]Marius[/name_m] will be easier on them (over [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], which as been my dream name for a son since I was 8 years old).
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. It truly is the perfect name for me. It honors my mother in an indirect way (She is [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], called Dor). It is the name of my favorite president, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m], and as a history lover it is important that names have a historical connection. It is the name of one of my favorite characters from my favorite book, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] from [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women. As an avid reader and book-a-holic, I love a name with a literary reference (and [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] is the only one either, just my favorite). It also has multiple nickname options - [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_m]Ted[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u] - and as a lover of nicknames and versatile names, this is good. Also, Tedy Bruschi is my all time favorite NFL player (I am an avid [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] Patriots fan), so the fact that [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is a nickname for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] adds to that.
I think all these things are very personal, but even without them, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a name with historical and literary connection, strong, solid, multiple nicknames, so flexible and will grow from baby to child to adult easily. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] can be a cute little boy or a sports star, [name_m]Ted[/name_m] can be a politician or business man, [name_u]Theo[/name_u] can be an eclectic artist or writer, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] can be a Supreme [name_m]Court[/name_m] [name_u]Justice[/name_u].
I have a few that I really, really love, but for a real-live son, I think I’d have to go with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. To me they are so classic and strong, but underused and uncommon.
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]. No, [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. No, [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. No, [name_u]Avery[/name_u]… le sigh. It’s a shame I can’t have a dozen kids because I could easily name twice that many! I’ll go with [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]–it’s my long-standing favorite and I love everything about it. I would so love to have a [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], an [name_u]Everett[/name_u], a [name_m]Jack[/name_m], and an [name_u]Avery[/name_u], though!
