If you had a Dashiell and Viola...

Hypothetically, what would you name their sibling? I only have a [name]Dashiell[/name] so far, he mainly goes by [name]Dash[/name]. If we have a [name]Viola[/name] her nicknames will be [name]Vi[/name], [name]Vivi[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]. I’m more interested in girls names at the moment. And don’t feel like you have to give me a whole huge list, I’m just as interested in the one name that pops out at you.

[name]How[/name] do you think [name]Margo[/name] goes with them?

[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Lennox[/name], and [name]Bettina[/name] maybe…[name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name], Nox, and [name]Betsey[/name]. Those were just the first names that came to mind.

Um, huh. [name]Dashiell[/name] ([name]Dash[/name], Dasher), [name]Viola[/name] ([name]Vi[/name], [name]Lola[/name]), [name]Cecily[/name] (Cece, [name]Celie[/name], [name]Cissy[/name]), [name]Emmeline[/name] ([name]Em[/name], [name]Emmy[/name], [name]Mel[/name], [name]Melly[/name], [name]Lin[/name]), [name]Francis[/name] ([name]Frank[/name], [name]Franco[/name], [name]Frankie[/name]), [name]Gwendolen[/name] ([name]Gwen[/name], [name]Gwennie[/name], [name]Wendy[/name], [name]Dolly[/name], [name]Leni[/name]), [name]Helene[/name] ([name]Len[/name], [name]Leni[/name], [name]Nell[/name]), [name]Henry[/name] ([name]Harry[/name], [name]Hank[/name]), [name]Juliet[/name] ([name]Jules[/name], [name]Jewel[/name], [name]Julie[/name], [name]Ettie[/name]), [name]Louise[/name] ([name]Lou[/name], [name]Lu[/name], [name]Lulu[/name]), [name]Louis[/name] ([name]Lou[/name], [name]Louie[/name]), [name]Oscar[/name] ([name]Oz[/name], [name]Ozzy[/name], Os, Scar), [name]Penelope[/name] ([name]Pen[/name], [name]Penny[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Nelly[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Posy[/name]), [name]Roman[/name] ([name]Roe[/name], [name]Romy[/name], [name]Rome[/name], [name]Man[/name], [name]Manny[/name]), [name]Simone[/name] ([name]Si[/name] [name]Si[/name], [name]Sim[/name], Money, [name]Monet[/name], [name]Mona[/name]), [name]Sutton[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name] ([name]Sully[/name], [name]Van[/name]), and [name]Tamsin[/name] ([name]Tam[/name] [name]Tam[/name], [name]Tammy[/name], Tee, [name]Ami[/name])?

I think [name]Margo[/name] works, [name]Lyndsay[/name], but she doesn’t feel quite as perky to me as [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] do. I like her a lot, though!

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name] and [name]Louise[/name].

[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name] and…

[name]Beatrix[/name] / [name]Bea[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name] / poppy or [name]Penny[/name]
[name]Edith[/name] / [name]Edie[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] / [name]Francie[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] / [name]Cleo[/name]

love [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name] and [name]Edith[/name]. [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Edie[/name]!

[name]Dashiell[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] make a very nice set! I feel like [name]Margo[/name] shares alot of sounds w/ [name]Viola[/name] though so she doesn’t quite fit.

The first boys and girls names that came to mind for [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Vivi[/name]'s sibling:

[name]Lachlan[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Helena[/name], [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Hazel[/name]

I have to say, I love your suggestion of [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name], those were the first two that came to mind for me. [name]Gwen[/name], [name]Dash[/name], and [name]Lola[/name] & [name]Penny[/name], [name]Dash[/name], and [name]Lola[/name] would be super cute together.

So, [name]Lyndsay[/name], I have to say that I adore [name]Dashiell[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] together. They are both classic names, yet have a certain spunk to them, especially with the nicknames [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]. So I think that’s what you’ll need to strive for, classic and spunky. That’s what I’m gonna strive for with my suggestions.
Here we go:
[name]Adelaide[/name] “[name]Heidi[/name]” (I remember you mentioned this awhile back, and I think it could really work here)
[name]Olive[/name] “[name]Liv[/name]” (I can just picture [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name], and [name]Liv[/name]. Oh crap. [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] are pretty similar. Darn)
[name]Rosalie[/name] “[name]Rosie[/name]” (super cute)
[name]Bethany[/name] “[name]Beth[/name]” (I can kind of see this working)
[name]Hattie[/name] (I can’t think of a good full name for this, but I like it)
[name]Elodie[/name] “[name]Ellie[/name]” (quirky enough to work)
[name]Emmeline[/name] “[name]Emme[/name]” (super cute, I just adore this name)
[name]January[/name] “[name]Jani[/name]” (I figured I’d just throw this out there, because I like its spunk)
[name]Magnolia[/name]/[name]Marguerite[/name] “[name]Maggie[/name]” (I love [name]Maggie[/name] with [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]. Seriously)

For boys, the first thing that came to mind was [name]Tennyson[/name]. I remember you mentioning it awhile ago, and I’m really liking it.
[name]Hawthorne[/name] could be really cool, with the nn [name]Hawk[/name].

Good luck! Hopefully some suggestions have helped ya out

Awww, abelle beat me! [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name] & [name]Edith[/name]; [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] & [name]Edie[/name]!
Or maybe
[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name] & [name]Cecile[/name]? [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] & Ceci?

maybe even: [name]Harriet[/name]/[name]Hattie[/name], [name]Theda[/name]/[name]Thea[/name], [name]Flora[/name]? Can’t think of a nn for [name]Flora[/name] beyyond yucky [name]Flo[/name]. (maybe [name]Florence[/name], nn [name]Flora[/name]?

Okay, I’ll sleep on it and come back witth more in the morning!

Thanks ladies! So many great ideas!

[name]Leah[/name], [name]Lennox[/name] is a cool idea but it seems girly to me for some reason. Also, I have a distant cousin named [name]Knox[/name] who is 3, and even though we never see them, that’s too unusual a name for me to copy, know what I mean? [name]Bettina[/name] is a fabulous idea, but I can only think of Shrew [name]Bettina[/name]… Anyone else remember that book?

[name]Lemon[/name], I especially love [name]Gwen[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Tamsin[/name]. [name]Juliet[/name] in particular is perfect, it’s got just the right amount of sweetness and strength. Never liked the [name]Shakespeare[/name] character though. I’ve been thinking about [name]Rome[/name] lately, what with Sublime with [name]Rome[/name] having a hit song. It’s pretty cool, but [name]Rome[/name] alone is kinda random, [name]Romeo[/name] is way [name]OTT[/name] and [name]Roman[/name] is so [name]Cate[/name] Blanchett.

Sillysheila, [name]Louise[/name] is great. I prefer [name]Louisa[/name], but I can’t do [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Lulu[/name]!

[name]Abelle[/name], wow! You’re like a mind reader! All but [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] are favorites. I don’t normally like the nickname [name]Poppy[/name], but I’ve actually been into it lately! And I can’t do [name]Frances[/name], for one thing it’s not really my style, and it’s my nephew’s middle name (who we see a lot and is often called “[name]Cole[/name] [name]Francis[/name]!” when he’s in trouble!). But I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Francie[/name] and think it’s pretty perfect with [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]. You reminded me that I used to be obsessed with [name]Francesca[/name], I always planned on having daughters named [name]Francesca[/name] and [name]Genevieve[/name]. I know it’s not very original, but I do think it’s beautiful. Plus it holds meaning for me in a few ways, which is always a plus.

[name]Edie[/name] is adorable, but my family has a bad association with [name]Edith[/name]. We had elderly neighbors whose EXTREMELY elderly mother lived with them. She was bed ridden and constantly yelling for “Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-diiiiiiiiiiiiiith”. That memory is stronger for my parents than for me, and I just couldn’t do that to them! I also went to high school with an [name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]” and she was a total slut. :?

Crunchy, I love [name]Reid[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. Hubby can’t get on board with [name]Reid[/name] for some reason, I will mention it again today! [name]Oliver[/name] is fantastic but I have been hearing it around constantly, :(. [name]Audrey[/name] is my niece’s middle name, and the name of an adorable baby I used to take care of. I always wished I would have a baby just like her, so that seems a little wrong, know what I mean? But otherwise, [name]Audrey[/name] would be the exact perfect sort of name to go with them. [name]Hazel[/name] is so cool, but do you think it’s too color-y?

Alright, I thought a long while and came up with a few more:
[name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name]: [name]Bee[/name], [name]Bea[/name], [name]Fee[/name] (for [name]Phoebe[/name]).
[name]Louisa[/name]: [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lou[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]?
[name]Adela[/name]: [name]Della[/name], too close to [name]Dash[/name]?
[name]Olive[/name]: [name]Liv[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]: [name]Nell[/name], [name]Nellie[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]: [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Hettie[/name], [name]Etta[/name]?
[name]Estella[/name]: [name]Stella[/name]?

And a few that seem to fit but have no nickname I can think of:
[name]Zola[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Maud[/name], (well, maybe not [name]Maud[/name]) [name]Vera[/name] & [name]Leona[/name].

Anything there?

[name]Rachel[/name], you totally got it down, I still love [name]Adelaide[/name] nn [name]Heidi[/name], but my SILs dad’s girlfriend is [name]Heidi[/name] and it’s not a good situation. If I wasn’t really close with my [name]SIL[/name] it might not be a big deal, but I am, so, grr, what can you do? I think [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Heidi[/name] is too adorable though! Good suggestion, it didn’t even occur to me. I also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] and [name]Hattie[/name]. I think [name]Rosalie[/name] works better in full, and [name]Hattie[/name] works better with the nicknames. Unfortunately I can’t make myself like [name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Henrietta[/name] at all, and I can’t imagine putting [name]Hattie[/name] on a birth certificate. [name]January[/name] is one of my favorite month names, it’s so cool, but maybe too cool for me! And do you really like [name]Maggie[/name] that much with [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]? Seems so vanilla to me by comparison. Since you mentioned [name]Hawthorne[/name], what do you think of Hartford nn [name]Hart[/name] with them? [name]Chris[/name] can’t stop talking about it! Also, since you mentioned [name]Hawk[/name]… What about [name]Fox[/name]? He loves it ever since we watched Pregnant in Heels. I have to admit I find it kinda cute. :? I did like [name]Tennyson[/name] for a while. It reminds me of tennis shoes though, so I don’t think I can use it, lol.

[name]Lola[/name], see my reply to abelle for why I can’t use [name]Edith[/name]! Interesting that you both find it so perfect, though! Also, I just had my 2 year old say it and it sounds identical to “eat it”! [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Cecile[/name] works better than [name]Cecily[/name] or [name]Cecilia[/name]? It seems a little plain to me, but I love [name]Camille[/name] so I should like it. I’ll have to think about it. [name]Flora[/name] is a big love, but I can’t imagine it as a first name. It’s on my middle name list. [name]Flo[/name] is icky, I agree!

Thanks everyone! You got my brain moving! I was totally stuck for ideas! I’m really loving [name]Francesca[/name] “[name]Francie[/name]”. Is it dated though? I’ve never actually met or even personally known of a [name]Francesca[/name], so maybe it’s more unusual than I think.

[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name], and [name]Imogen[/name].

[name]Dash[/name], [name]Vi[/name], and [name]Gen[/name] (sounds like “[name]Jen[/name]”)

[name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name]: [name]Bee[/name], [name]Bea[/name], [name]Fee[/name] (for [name]Phoebe[/name]).- I love [name]Beatrix[/name] but not [name]Beatrice[/name], is that weird?
[name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Trixie[/name] would be cool, right? I think so! I love [name]Phoebe[/name] too but I don’t think it sounds good with my B last name
[name]Louisa[/name]: [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lou[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]?- I really love [name]Lucy[/name], but I’m too weird about already knowing someone with a name. Someone I went to school with has a [name]Lucy[/name]. And I don’t like [name]Lulu[/name] very much, I prefer [name]Lola[/name]
[name]Adela[/name]: [name]Della[/name], too close to [name]Dash[/name]?- mmm, yeah, probably too close
[name]Olive[/name]: [name]Liv[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it (and [name]Olivia[/name]) but too close to [name]Viola[/name].
[name]Helen[/name]: [name]Nell[/name], [name]Nellie[/name]- Doesn’t thrill me
[name]Harriet[/name]: [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Hettie[/name], [name]Etta[/name]?- [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Hattie[/name]! Not [name]Harriet[/name] :frowning:
[name]Estella[/name]: [name]Stella[/name]?- I like [name]Stella[/name], but I don’t love it.

[name]Zola[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Maud[/name], (well, maybe not [name]Maud[/name]) [name]Vera[/name] & [name]Leona[/name].- Hmmmm. I don’t know if any of these work for me. I do like [name]Zola[/name]. I’m not sure about [name]Maud[/name], but maybe [name]Maeve[/name]?

[name]Beatrix[/name] is fabulous! I’m with you on loving [name]Beatrix[/name] but not [name]Beatrice[/name], really. It’s not super weird, I think, but just a little. I should like [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Dante[/name]'s “Inferno” is one of my favorite reads, ever and she’s there. But I adore [name]Trixie[/name], sooo much! She’s rising up my own lists despite my own reservations. (she doesn’t honor, she’s so short next to [name]Josephine[/name]…) I could go on & on, but really, isn’t [name]Trixie[/name] just adorable?

Yes, [name]Trixie[/name] is fantastic! People seem to see it as a stripper name or something, that’s not how I think of it at all. [name]Trixie[/name] [name]Belden[/name]! Her and [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name] make it seem very wholesome to me! It’s one of my all time favorites! And doesn’t [name]Trixie[/name] [name]Becker[/name] sound awesomely close to [name]Trixie[/name] [name]Belden[/name]? I think so!

I don’t think she’s too short with [name]Josephine[/name], they have the same number of syllables. [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name]. [name]Josie[/name] and [name]Trixie[/name]. I like it!

The fact that no one has mentioned this is a good sign, but is [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Viola[/name] too close to [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Violet[/name] from The Incredibles? I’ve found that most people recognize his name from that movie, so will having a [name]Viola[/name] too make it seem like we’re obsessed with it? [name]Viola[/name] seems very different from [name]Violet[/name] to me, but I suppose it’s really not. [name]Chris[/name] mentioned this today and he said that a few people have already asked him if we’re going to name a girl [name]Violet[/name]! I’m so disappointed! [name]Viola[/name] is so perfect! I don’t want to be a huge Disney cliche. :frowning:

I was actually reading through all the posts waiting for someone to mention this - it’s the first thing I thought of. I would not let that stop me from using the names though. It’s not like you’d name the next one [name]Jack[/name] [name]Jack[/name].

Funny, [name]Dash[/name] & [name]Violet[/name] never crossed my mind, not once!
I wouldn’t worry about the Disney thing, lainey’s right, you weren’t thinking [name]Jack[/name]-[name]Jack[/name] for another boy I’ll wager.

And thanks for confirming what I think about [name]Trixie[/name]. She’s all [name]Belden[/name] & [name]Potter[/name] to me, I devoured those books as a kid! I am so going to be stuck with girly-girls, though. Can [name]Trixie[/name] be a girly-girl? I think so, but I’m second guessing myself, as usual.

[name]Dashiell[/name] & [name]Viola[/name] are absolutely perfect together and perfect for you!

[name]Lyndsay[/name], I adore [name]Francesca[/name] nn [name]Francie[/name]… Or you could use [name]Francine[/name]? I have actually had all the names I suggested on my own list at some point, including [name]Viola[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] so we may have quite similar taste in names! such a shame about [name]Edith[/name] having such awful associations for you ( the eddddiiiiiiiiitthhhh made me laugh aloud!)- quite the opposite for me, it was my grandmas name
sorry for repeats but some others that spring to mind are:
[name]Caroline[/name] nn [name]Cara[/name], calla, [name]Lina[/name]
[name]Alice[/name] nn Lissy
[name]Eugenie/name nn gen, genie
[name]Camille[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]
[name]Mirabel[/name] nn [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Mira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Lucinda[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Cindi[/name] (too close with [name]Viola[/name] perhaps?)
[name]Delphine[/name] nn [name]Nina[/name] (I know it’s a stretch) and maybe too flowery? And another D name. Ok maybe a bad suggestion but I love the sound of the set!

In saying all this, I have to say that Im glad to see the conversation is shining on [name]Beatrix[/name] nn [name]Trixie[/name] because, behind [name]Edith[/name], I always thought she would be the perfect sister to [name]Viola[/name]!

And [name]Lola[/name], [name]Love[/name] both [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] with [name]Josephine[/name]! [name]Beatrix[/name] slightly more because of the "ine’ endings!

[name]Abelle[/name] x

Hmm, I’m going to have to think for a while about the Incredibles thing. I can’t tell you how many people say “Like in the Incredibles?” or “Like [name]Dash[/name] [name]Parr[/name]?” when we tell them his name. I’m sure a lot of people would make the connection with [name]Viola[/name] pretty quickly. I don’t really like the prospect of explaining why [name]BOTH[/name] of my kids are named after the movie. Maybe it would be ok if I had another boy first, to break it up, you know? Or if I do have a girl first, maybe I should save it for a second girl? There are a lot of names I love, after all. But [name]Viola[/name] ticks all the right boxes and is exciting! I think I’m going to rework my list, I feel like my tastes have changed lately. I’m not about to take [name]Viola[/name] out of the top spot though!

[name]Lola[/name], I definitely think [name]Trixie[/name] can be a girly girl! No question! I honestly can see [name]Trixie[/name] as pretty much any personality type.

[name]Abelle[/name], we definitely have similar tastes! I can’t believe you mentioned [name]Delphine[/name], major guilty pleasure! I don’t really want to use it, but I think it’s amazing. [name]Calla[/name] is very pretty, I never really considered that before. [name]Caroline[/name] is probably too normal for my husband, he prefers [name]Coraline[/name]. [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Callie[/name] are super cute. I’m obsessed with [name]Camille[/name] right now, but he doesn’t like it. He’s frustrating  I’m not really into [name]Francine[/name], but you do like [name]Francesca[/name]? I’ve been thinking about it all night. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Francie[/name]. AND [name]Dash[/name], [name]Lola[/name] and [name]Trixie[/name]. [name]Dash[/name], [name]Vivi[/name] and [name]Francie[/name].

It’s so hard to choose which direction to go, you know? I feel like I could do [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Viola[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] as easily as [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Francesca[/name] and [name]Marguerite[/name] or [name]Dash[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] and [name]Finn[/name]. Know what I mean?

I just noticed you have a [name]Eulalie[/name]! That’s fabulous! [name]How[/name] old is she? [name]How[/name] do people like her name?
