Years ago when i was a cashier I had a little boy come through and his mom called him iliad/Eliud. Not quite sure of the spelling or even if I’m saying it right but ever since then I’ve loved the sound of it and it’s become my guilty pleasure name. I think it sounds awesome but iliad is , well Iliad lol. What do you think of this name/idea? Am I crazy?? Lol
Iliad. I like it. The sound of it is so musical. I can really see this working as a name for either gender. It’s not as though it’s an entirely fabricated name with random sounds and letters joined together. It comes from an ancient language and it already has an established meaning as ‘song of Illion’. It’s not miles away from [name_f]Enid[/name_f] and there’s already [name_f]Iliana[/name_f] ‘from Ilium or [name_m]Troy[/name_m].’ It’s association is quite a big thing to carry though if it were used on a child. But imagine it as an honour name to a grandparent whose favourite literature was [name_m]Homer[/name_m]'s Iliad. It might be harder to match in terms of style, but it’s so striking why not!
I prefer Iliad to Eliud, personally. It’s similar to a name I like, [name_m]Ilya[/name_m], and the female [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f] or Iliea. Eliud is cute, but I prefer [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] or [name_u]Elias[/name_u].
I don’t think Iliad is crazy at all! People name their children [name_m]Homer[/name_m] and Odyssey, [name_f]Saga[/name_f] or [name_f]Edda[/name_f], [name_u]Poet[/name_u] or [name_u]Story[/name_u] or [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]. Iliad has a magical liquid sound to it and conjures such rich mythological imagery. I think it’s perfect, and I would love to meet a little Iliad!
I love, no, looooooooooooooooooooove The Iliad, but it’s never occurred to me that it can be used as a name. Iliad. A thumbs up from me!
