Illarion is Out so.....now what?

So hoping to have our first in the next year or two and here’s the deal:

[name_f]My[/name_f] taste: ethereal uber rare (usually above 500 if not unranked on the SSA list) yet fits into the modern tongue without too much difficulty. :sweat_smile:

[name_u]An[/name_u] example of this is: [name_m]Illarion[/name_m] . I LOVE this name and it was my top boy pick for a REALLY long time. But my husband has already 1000% vetoed it and most other things ending in “ion” because they sound too Tolkien/fantastical/elvish. le sigh…… :melting_face:

Husband’s taste: solid names with historical backing, etc. He does not have the same rarity requirement but also doesn’t want something that is so common there will be 5 in the child’s class (think out of the top 50 probably).

So….like are there names left? :joy: We’ve agreed to each other’s top pick in girls’ names (his is in the top 1000 but I guess I’ll let it slide…) but boy names have been mostly a total wash.

The brave few we’ve semi-agreed on: [name_u]Sinclair[/name_u] (more as a middle though) , [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] , [name_u]Arden[/name_u] (although this may be becoming too trendy?) , [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m]

Names I love that he’s vetoed: [name_m]Riah[/name_m] , [name_m]Castiel[/name_m] , [name_m]Theon[/name_m], [name_u]Carlisle[/name_u], [name_m]Illarion[/name_m]. He is okay with [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] but likes [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] better. I have not convinced him on [name_m]Connell[/name_m] [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m] yet either.

Names he’s suggested that I don’t like but haven’t totally vetoed yet but am not particularly captured by: [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] , [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m], [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (as a middle)

We don’t have any honor names although we may want to honor his dad but it would probably be with the feminine version of his name if we did it.

TLDR: ethereal, rarer yet solid and historical is our sweet spot. I’m more okay with middles being more common.

Looking for suggestions and also just input on this clash of ideals: is there hope? [name_f]Do[/name_f] we need to pray for all girls? lol :joy:

I’m gonna throw [name_m]Endymion[/name_m] and [name_u]Endellion[/name_u] out there bc I think your husband is wrong and should reflect! They’re similar to [name_m]Illarion[/name_m] but more grounded and have interesting histories.

[name_m]Bastian[/name_m] - It’s grounded and familiar but also the main character in The Neverending [name_u]Story[/name_u] which gives it a whimsical spin.
Auberon/Oberon - Shakespearean name for some historical grounding and it’s the name of the fairy king for some whimsy
