Hello, I just needed to get this out somewhere! My sister/aunt, [name_f]Maja[/name_f], and boyfriend, [name_m]Anders[/name_m], is TTC a little brother or sister for their precious daughter [name_f]Silke[/name_f]! And she’d love me to help her find some cute names for when they know they’re pregnant!
[name_f]Silke[/name_f] is the Danish word for [name_f]Silk[/name_f] and [name_f]Maja[/name_f] loves the name [name_m]Casmir[/name_m] with her. Yet [name_m]Anders[/name_m] is not so keen on this boys name. If anybody would like to help me with some Scandinavian names, to present for them, I’d love that.
I know for [name_f]Silke[/name_f] they considered [name_f]Sally[/name_f] and [name_f]Maja[/name_f] is still loving it.
I know they both hate the name [name_f]Dagmar[/name_f].
And I’m of course going to share the process when she’s actually pregnant!
Thanks for the help :3
Instead of [name_m]Casmir[/name_m], suggest [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], it’s just an extra letter and syllable. I won’t be much help on Scandinavian suggestions, but I give it a try.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_u]Isak[/name_u]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f]
[name_f]Signe[/name_f]
[name_f]Tindra[/name_f]
[name_m]Eero[/name_m]
[name_m]Claus[/name_m]
[name_m]Kaspar[/name_m]
[name_m]Lars[/name_m]
[name_m]Lukas[/name_m]
[name_m]Soren[/name_m]
Some non-scandinavian suggestions:
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f]
[name_f]Anise[/name_f]
[name_f]Daffodil[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
[name_u]Florian[/name_u]
[name_u]Zion[/name_u]
[name_m]Jaron[/name_m]
[name_m]Grover[/name_m]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]
I’m pretty they’ll never use [name_m]Lars[/name_m], as that [name_f]Maja[/name_f]'s stepfather xD
And I think [name_f]Saga[/name_f] would be a girl’s name they love, as they love s names.
And thanks for the lovely names, [name_u]Florian[/name_u] sounds [name_m]German[/name_m], so it’s close enough. And I think that [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] would be lovely with [name_f]Silke[/name_f].
I would strongly advise against [name_m]Casmir[/name_m] which gets a little too themed with storesøster [name_f]Silke[/name_f]. For non-Danes who don’t master the Danish language: In Danish, [name_m]Casmir[/name_m] is pronounced exactly like kashmir which is the Danish word for cashmere.
[name_f]Silke[/name_f] is so lovely. I knew a [name_f]Silke[/name_f] when I was younger and I was so jealous of her name.
Some Danish/Scandinavian names I like with [name_f]Silke[/name_f]:
-
[name_m]Aksel[/name_m]: So precious with [name_f]Silke[/name_f]. I love [name_m]Aksel[/name_m] so much. A great, old and strong Danish name.
-
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m]: Sounds smashing with [name_f]Silke[/name_f], and [name_m]Den[/name_m] Store [name_m]Bastian[/name_m] is such a great namesake.
-
[name_m]Bertil[/name_m]: One of my own personal favourites. You can’t go wrong with [name_m]Bertil[/name_m].
-
[name_f]Fjord[/name_f]: Not approved yet, but isn’t it great? [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and [name_f]Fjord[/name_f] swoon
-
Mattis: Great literate reference and just generally a good, strong Scandinavian name.
-
[name_m]Nemo[/name_m]: If the Finding [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] association doesn’t get too big, lol. [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Linnet[/name_f] has a son named [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] and I think that’s so precious. I could easily picture [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and [name_m]Nemo[/name_m] as a set of sibling names.
-
[name_m]Saxe[/name_m]: I almost swooned out loud when I said [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and [name_m]Saxe[/name_m] to myself. [name_m]How[/name_m] absolutely precious is that?
-
Sigge: I don’t have words for just how much I love Sigge.
-
Snorre: Same as with [name_m]Saxe[/name_m] and Sigge, to be honest with you. I definitely think that Snorre would be a perfect match - and it’s so underused!
-
[name_u]Storm[/name_u]: Very popular, but would fit perfectly with [name_f]Silke[/name_f].
-
Sverre: See [name_m]Saxe[/name_m], Snorre and Sigge, lol. I have a thing for Danish S-names.
-
Tjalfe: I don’t know how well this name ages (know several little boys names Tjalfe, but have yet to meet an adult one), but it’s just wonderful.
-
Gry: [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and Gry! It really doesn’t get cuter than that. Though Gry may be too old-fashioned for them?
-
[name_f]Kajsa[/name_f]: I prefer it spelled [name_f]Kajsa[/name_f] over [name_f]Cajsa[/name_f], but I presume that’s a matter of taste. It’s beautiful nonetheless.
-
Lilje: I could easily picture [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and Lilje as a sibset. They’re sweet without being overly cutesy.
-
Lovis: Another [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] Lindgren name. She had a thing with names that woman.
-
Mynte: It’s obnoxiously popular right now, but I think it sounds nice with [name_f]Silke[/name_f].
-
[name_f]Nana[/name_f]/[name_f]Nanna[/name_f]: Very much in the same style as [name_f]Silke[/name_f]. Cutesy without being obnoxious, and who doesn’t love the TV series [name_f]Nana[/name_f]? I remember watching it with utter delight when I was younger.
-
[name_f]Noor[/name_f]: It sounds absolutely ravishing in Danish (the English pronunciation is a bit of a buzzkill, I must say).
-
Røskva: This might just be one of my favourite names from the Norse mythology but it really doesn’t translate well to English. I still think it’s absolutely swoon-worthy though, and [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and Røskva would be a precious set of sibling names.
-
[name_f]Selma[/name_f]: I think this sounds much better with [name_f]Silke[/name_f] than [name_f]Sally[/name_f] does. Besides, one could use [name_f]Sally[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Selma[/name_f].
-
[name_f]Siri[/name_f]: This name is so effortlessly beautiful. So tiny and yet so beautiful.
-
Spire: Though very uncommon, I know for a fact that it is approved (I know a Spire myself). I think it’s so adorable. It might get too matchy with [name_f]Silke[/name_f] though.
-
Vilde: Pronounced (in Danish) vil-DEH and not ville. So beautiful and so lovely with [name_f]Silke[/name_f].
-
Vilja: I’m pretty sure I know a pair of sisters named [name_f]Silke[/name_f] and Vilja. I love Vilja, it’s strong, it’s warm and it’s beautiful.
This became much longer than intended. I love suggesting Danish names sigh I’d wish that the good people of Nameberry loved more Danish names.
Yeah, but when she is so in love with a name, it’s hard to pull her out of it.
I really love some of the names and some I know neither of them is going to like, but I will try and suggest these:
[name_m]Saxe[/name_m]*
Lilje
Vilja
Vilde*
Gry*
Mattis
[name_f]Fjord[/name_f]
[name_m]Aksel[/name_m]
[name_m]Bastian[/name_m]
Spire*
Røskva (I’ll try and give it a shot!)
I am so much in love with [name_m]Saxe[/name_m] and [name_f]Silke[/name_f]. It is really swoon worthy.
