I'm I setting my baby up?

I would love your lady’s thoughts…

My husband and I can’t wait for our first little boy but are having a tough time with his name. We both love, love [name]Lucas[/name] (for sure calling him [name]Luke[/name]) but can not decide if it sounds silly with our last name. So here it is …

[name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name]

Please help us to decide!!!

[name]Happy[/name] Friday

I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t do [name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name]:frowning: I think it’s too similar. That’s just my opinion though!

It’s very alliterative and very [name]Lex[/name] [name]Luther[/name]/[name]Luke[/name] skywalker. I’d suggest you keep looking,

I’m sorry to say that I agree with the previous posts. While I adore alliteration, [name]Lucas[/name]/[name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] is just too much.

I agree, the “lu” sound in both names is just too much.

Noooo! Too close. Sounds like [name]John[/name] [name]Johnson[/name] or something of that nature. Thumbs down for [name]Luke[/name]. You could nick name him [name]Lulu[/name]!

Sorry, but to me it sounds like a lisp.
[name]Marcus[/name] [name]Luther[/name] has a similar feel to [name]Lucas[/name], how about that option?
[name]Marcus[/name] nn [name]Marc[/name].
[name]Marc[/name] [name]Luther[/name] sounds awesome!

While [name]Lucas[/name] [name]Luther[/name] might have just enough to distinguish the two names, [name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] (which everyone would probably call him more of the time) is toooo close. Sorry.

I agree with this.

[name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] is too close for me, too. I do like alliteration but this one doesn’t work- it’s the [name]Lu[/name] [name]Lu[/name] repetition so close together.
I think the suggestion of [name]Marcus[/name] ([name]Marc[/name]) is great. I don’t know if you’re open to a super Italian name but Gianluca [name]Luther[/name] sounds pretty cool to me. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name Gianluca.

Would all his friends and peers be calling him [name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name]? No. They would just call him [name]Luke[/name] or [name]Lucas[/name], wouldn’t they. The only time he might hear his first and last name together is if he is being called up to the stage for an award or something. So go with [name]Lucas[/name] since you love it so much. It’s really not as big a deal as you think it is. Sorry to be so blunt. I’m just one of the people who does not get the whole “this name shouldn’t go together with that name” thing.

[name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] sounds like [name]Lex[/name] [name]Luther[/name] to me, that was my first impression. Sorry :frowning: Gianluca sounds badass. You could call him luke at home, but if kids teased him at school he could go by gian/giani or something and sound tough and italian or even go by G

I definitely thought of [name]Lex[/name] [name]Luther[/name] as well. I think [name]Luke[/name] (or [name]Lucas[/name]) [name]Luther[/name] is a bit too close.

When I say it, I feel like I have to concentrate to avoid stuttering. I love the names [name]Luke[/name]/[name]Lucas[/name] as well, but they don’t sound right with our last name. Come to think it, many names don’t…oh, to be a [name]Smith[/name] or a [name]Jones[/name]…:o)

[name]Marcus[/name] [name]Luther[/name] ([name]Marc[/name]) is ten times better! Good luck!

I don’t think so… it’s catchy and memorable and I like it!

I actually don’t mind it, but it is very close.

@notsoclevername: It’s actually quite common among my group of friends to go to by their full names. In college we generally talked about people with their full names, whether or not there was another person with the same name. I know an obscene number of Allies and Kates, and we refer to them by their full names. We even have nicknames based on first/last name smooshes- so when I’m with two Kates one might be called [name]Kate[/name] and the other KB. I expect that a name as common as [name]Luke[/name]/[name]Lucas[/name] will have multiples, and by our nicknaming system, [name]Luke[/name] [name]Luther[/name] would end up something like “[name]LuLu[/name].” This could be completely different for you of course, but in my experience people are called by both first and last name.

i instantly thought of [name]Lex[/name] [name]Luther[/name]…

[name]Luther[/name] is definitely a great name

[name]Lucas[/name] is cute too…you just need something to break it up a bit
